Anyone remember Moon Madness ?

Think it won around three handicaps before the leger, one may have been at Royal Ascot

Sire was a 2000 guineas runner up, as coincidentally were the next two winners of the race

One was Vitiges, The Other Mill Reef and ive forgotten the other, may have been high Top

Cumberland Lodge Stakes, Ascot, Gr.3 and Mecca Bookmakers' Scottish
Derby, Ayr, L., placed second in Grosser Preis von Baden, Baden-Baden, Gr.1
and third in Hanson Coronation Cup, Epsom, Gr.1, Puma Preis Von Europa,
Koln, Gr.1, Great Voltigeur Stakes, York, Gr.2, Hardwicke Stakes, Royal Ascot,
Gr.2 (twice) and fourth in King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Ascot,
Gr.1, Brigadier Gerard Stakes, Sandown Park, Gr.3; sire in Japan.

yes defo used to get tips from stable that season,he was one handicaps early season at Newmarket,then Royal Ascot got beat at York then won Leger easy.
Remember Pat Eddery rode, on rail in straight nearer last than first, but going well then most of field seemed to move out of his way and he shot through on rail to win easy,my biggest win back in the day.
Went to stud in Japan not too succesful i think,but cracking horse never to be forgotten.

A £100 double on her winning the Oaks and Prideaux Boy in the Swinton Hurdle (probably the Royal Doulton in those days) paid the deposit for my first flat!

Good memories DD.. I just remember Prideaux Boy.

Moon Madness features quite a bit in Simon Barnes' book of around that time when he spent a season in John Dunlop's stable ("Horsesweat And Tears"). Loads of these available second-hand via Amazon and one of the very few racing-related books I'd recommend.

Have a look in the Benson and Hedges Racing Year 1986 (first edition) there is a piece about Moon Madness which gives a full account and pedigree of him,it also gives the full race card from his St.Leger,worth a read good book.Its available with Amazon.
