5 months off a big chase handicap and we are already discussing it - brilliant. Personally i think Othermix is always over priced.

Yep I agree Othermix will definitely win a decent prize this coming season. i was on him for the Jewson. My only reservation is that Tom george's horses nearly need a run.

I just think Weird Al will be badly handicapped this season and maya ctually struggle to win a race.

Trying to think of what twiston Davies may enter as his string are usually flying early in the season. Little Josh, Pigeon Island perhaps??

Great race, nearly always goes to a second season chaser with what turns out to be a very workable mark. Love Bensalem 4 next season, Henessey + Gold cup route 4 me tho. China Rock wud interest me off 145 or below. Lets start a fred 4 the Greatwood [:D]

11112112F2F2, both times fell when holding every chance, particularly that in the William Hill, and finished last season off with a fine second to top mare Quevega in a grade 1

pretty useless imo

Nothing wrong with Alan King, an even more ridiculous comment.
Report bigben the horseman July 4, 2010 7:11 PM BST
with ap back on sunnyhillboy will make the frame. i have a lot of time for young jockeys but frankly mclernon gave him a bad ride at the festival. thinking bensalem will end up useless is an utterly ridiculous thing to say. he is one of those horses that has form figures to emphasise just how big an engine he has, never out the first 2.
Report Saritamer July 4, 2010 7:51 PM BST
Borough HGill Lad couldn't jump to save itself at start of novice career, while not for a secong suggesting Bensalem will reach these dizzy heights, the point is it can be done and if the horse can be trained to learn to jump properly it could go all the way to the top. Hennessy the race though not PP.

Bensalem has shown massive signs of regression, you know that second place finish in a grade 1 hurdle last time out?
Report dananders July 4, 2010 11:04 PM BST
more than happy to put on here that bensalem will never win a grade 1 over hurdles or fences
Report dananders July 4, 2010 11:31 PM BST

not sure Prince De Beachene would like Cheltenham tbh.

But he is a fine scopey individual and a half brother to Miko. Howard has looked after this one imo.
Report Far From Trouble July 5, 2010 5:47 PM BST
dan, you're may be right, he probably won't win a grade 1 over fences or hurdles, but to say he'll turn out to be useless and that he needs a change of trainer is a stupid statement.

Besides, just because a certain horse doesn't win a grade 1 does not make them useless

hope this helps

Report dananders July 5, 2010 9:13 PM BST
useless is harsh but hell be way too short next run
Report deadloss July 6, 2010 10:08 AM BST
Bensalem is and will continue to be a very good horse. He had a frustrating year last year (like many in the yard)but will come back. Of that I have no doubt. I think he will be a Hennessy horse to start with. After all, that handicap mark needs to be exploited in a big race over fences.

Hopefully after a good performance (and victory!) connections then have a decision to make about his long term future. With Big Bucks dominating the hurdling division I would try him in another race after The Hennessy before the Cotswold and then, depending on the outcome, a race at The Festival.

As for the comment on AK. Ridiculous. He has forgotten more about horses than many of us will ever know.
Report Meat Loaf July 10, 2010 9:47 PM BST
Tartak may be on a decent mark?
Report Bobby Dazzler July 10, 2010 10:17 PM BST
I think Bensalem can continue to progress but 2m 4f looks way to short to be seen at his best. Weird Al would run off 152, but if he is potentially top class then would hve to go close, he will have to spot Sunnyhillboy 13lbs which is an ask. As there is a dirth of decent second season chasers this season, I am interested in Copper Bleu off 147. His defeat of Othermix in the Jewson off 139 ( 3 1/2 lengths giving him 1lb)was impressive - I think he can handle a rise of 8lbs as he won with a bit in hand. Certianly couldn't see Othermix turning the form around off 142. The first time tongue tie and step up in trip brought about improvement, and as he was fourth in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle (touched off by Somersby) he could yet prove to be progressive even at the age of 8.

Report IAMNOTARADDISH July 11, 2010 8:47 AM BST
1st choice has to be great endeavour he was close up of the strongest run 2m5 ch at the festival and still had enough to fend of sunnyhillboy who is 2nd choice as he had a rough passage in that race both rated low 140s perfect for paddy power. fancied riverside theatre but he is rated a tad high at 154 CANT WAIT!!!!!!!
Report Bobby Dazzler July 11, 2010 1:50 PM BST
Great Endeavour would have to be in the shake up on a line through Sunnyhillboy, will be 4lbs worse off for a length and a quarter, but he did have a featherweight in the Byrne plate (as did the first three home) in a race that was run at an excessive pace.
Report Far From Trouble July 11, 2010 9:27 PM BST

Great Endeavour surely the one here, always highly thought of and had a few warm ups before Cheltenham in March to ensure a competitive rating. Long way off and always a competitive race but got to be a strong fancy looking at his connections' record in the race.

Ian Williams does have Weird Al who is 2-2 at Cheltenham, and without doubt will win big races in 2011 inc one at the festival i believe, but he has a real star in the making, a 5 year old Chaser called Invisible Man,

Ran twice for Williams, won by 13.5 lengths on debut, followed up with another 11 length win at the Galway festival. gets a huge weight allowance generally as he is only 5 racing against older horses.

Also Williams did say after Galway the horse would be packed up and brought back for the Cheltenham november meet.

If it runs, back it!
Report Bobby Dazzler August 24, 2010 5:16 PM BST
Invisible Mans form is nothing special - the conditions of the race in Galway have to be taken into consideration. Invisible Man carried 10-08 despite being rated 135, the second horse Tory Hill Lad was rated 97 carried 11-03 and was beaten 11 lengths, the third horse Banna Bay was rated 129 carried 11-00 and was beaten 13 lengths, Decoy Daddy was 4th rated 127 and beaten 15 lengths. A lot of horses were hampered at a number of fences in the race - all in all I don't think he has run to anything more than his mark of 135
