I'd hold fire if u were thinking of backing this one, he ran on well at Royal Ascot but I heard that he was now being retired

The trainer said the other day that he's likely to go as he's gouing to Australia the day after the race with a Coolmore ship load. As long as he works well.

Paco Boy and Canford Cliffs are both entered be great of one of them ran.

I can't see it happening A_T...i think they will both stick to the mile. Although it wouldn't be the first time i've got something wrong.

If there's any cut in the ground (or an overwatered course) then Marchand D'Or has a big chance, ran a good race I thought.

One horse I can't see winning though he ran well last year is Main Aim,he has to improve a hell of a lot if he will even be placed.

Denman is the clasiest horse there, simply a matter of how he's travelled.

I was worried Ballydoyle would ruin SSB, I'm horrified by what Saeed could do to Denman.

Lets hope he gets there in good order, it's in your 'capable??' hands Saeed...

loved lohnro when he was running in oz, be good to see some of his sprogs over here.

He was terrific, would have loved to have seen him in something like a Queen Anne.

Big O, didn't do a bad job with Haradson did they, with the facilities and staff they have at Ballydoyle, they don't 'ruin' horses

No Neill your right they did a terrific job with Haradasun and have obviously done a terrific job with the countless other top liners that have come out of Ballydoyle.

My comment was based around the fact that the yard was seemingly struggling.

The run by Rip Van Winkle for instance was miles below his true form and I was concerned that SSB might do much the same. Clearly he didn't.

Fair enough Big 0, yeah Rip was dissapointing but it was a tough ask coming back in that company, from what 0'brien has said just ready to start means half speeds, thats what he said SSb was doing before York, when the team were doing their famous workout before the Guineas at Leopardstown, Rip was only hacking so i'd say they are taking it softly softly with him. Then again some times they don't come back as he had an unbelieveably hard year last year which we saw the effects of in the BC, He doesn't look like a typical son of Gallileo in that he is not overly robust and it might just be that there is nothing left

Simon Crisford, racing manager to Godolphin, said: "Denman won't go for the July Cup - the idea was to come over here for that race, but we've run out time with him and he's not fit enough for the race.

"He was due to go straight into quarantine straight after the July meeting and we haven't time to find another race for him.

I'm going to give Varenar another chance in this. He was drawn on the wrong side in the Golden Jubilee last time.

A fast pace, a bit of cover and a stiffer track could see him in a much better light. 33/1 for a horse that has beaten Goldikova is a good price.

Frankie Dettori has been confirmed as the jockey for Fleeting Spirit in Friday's Darley July Cup at Newmarket.

Speculation had been mounting as to who would partner Jeremy Noseda's flying filly with Tom Queally, who rode her to victory last year, and champion jockey Ryan Moore also in the mix.

However, with Godolphin's Denman ruled out of the race last week, Dettori was free to take up the mount and Noseda has plumped for the Italian.

"Fleeting Spirit will line up in the July Cup and Frankie Dettori will ride," said the Shalfleet handler.

"She did her last piece of work this morning (Monday). I was pleased with how it went and fingers crossed she comes out of it in good order.

"Hopefully she moves forward from her first racecourse start and I hope there is no draw bias and we are drawn near the principal competition," he told his website.

Fleeting Spirit finished fourth on her seasonal bow in the Golden Jubilee Stakes behind Starspangledbanner from an unfavourable draw and is available at around the 4-1 with Sky Bet for Friday's race.

If it rains I reckon both or either Varenar and Serious Attitude will turn the form around with Fleeting Spirit. Neither had the run of the race at Ascot and both are Group 1 horses. Big prices available. I'm on, just in case it does rain.

War Artist at 25/1 is too big imo.

Beaten just 3 lengths at Ascot on the wrong side.

First run since Dubai so should come on for it.

First run for Dupre too so he can still leak out a bit of improvement.

Placed in this in 08 so likes the track.


Does tend to find one too good in these group 1's but definitely deserves one and this could be his chance.

Also backed SSB at 9/4 last week after the big favour he did me at Ascot :x and Kingsgate Native at 16/1, a horse that likes to throw in a bad run after a good run so we can forgive him Ascot and a return to 6 should suit.

Gheest-bound War Artist to bypass July Cup bid

WAR ARTIST will miss a rematch with Golden Jubilee Stakes rivals in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Friday andwill be targeted at the Prix Maurice de Gheest instead.

The six-year-old, who was a 20-1 shot for Friday's highlight, finished sixth on his debut for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre at Royal Ascot, was to have joined stablemate Varenar in the 6f July festival sprint.

However, Paul Harley, racingmanager to owner Rupert Plersch, said on Tuesday: "Mr De Royer-Dupre has decided to wait until the Prix de Ris-Orangis in eight days time with the intention to go for the Prix Maurice de Gheest afterwards (August 8). 

"He is very happy with War Artist but has decided against travelling him again to take on such strong opposition."
Varenar, who finished eighth in the Golden Jubilee, was due to be ridden by Christophe Lemaire in Friday's Group 1 but, due to the jockey's injury, Gerald Mosse now takes the ride.

Bet War Artist this morning at 25's for exactly the same reasons as stated by TD_Gunner above.

Gutted he's missing out really. Though Peslier kept it too far back when he was on the wrong side at Ascot and was finishing to effect. Bound to come on for that run. Must be bet wherever he goes next.

These war artist backers really ought to get their money back. I know the rules and all the rest of it, but come on, there's a chance these bets were placed after the decision not to run him was made. It looks like some have backed him a couple of hours before the press release.

Like i said, i think certain people have backed war artist after the decision was made not to run her. There's a difference between the time of the decision and press release. I've no idea what flower arranging has to do with this ?

I can see what Graeme is suggesting, if connections have declared the horse as a non runner... but betting has not reflected this, then punter who have backed the horse deserve their money back... as at the time the bet was placed the horse is not declared.

I can see why punters feel hard done by this. but maybe this should not be done through the press but through official process which is then passed on to the press and bookies.

theres a difference between a press release and actually taken out of the racecard. besides i dont see the point of backing a horse at 25-1 a few days beforehand when its hardly going to be shorter on the day of the race.

mythical... as most antepost punters know 25/1 on some horses with war artist calibre.. would not have been the same price on the 48hr decs... if it turned up would have been 16-20 atleast...

for example, Showcasing was 25s early on the week... biggest price now is 20...

The two french runners are the two I like most though and are both fairly low.

think they might be racing on a different part of the track or something. been saving some fresh so the draw is anyones guess but most of the pace seems to be high. I would think they will come up the middle of the track anyway with the early pace being the far side and the closers coming up stand side with showcasing nailing ssb late in the day for a famous victory for william buick, john gosden, the prince, lord grimthorpe and geton.
