gotta say ive fallen in love with this horse-Love i might ask michael jarvis if i can marry him when he wins the coventry. if this horse was trained by ballydoyle soldier of fortunes head would explode with sheer excitement Laugh

looked hugely impressive on his debut and has a lovely fluent action which seems ideal for fast ground at royal ascot.

give the amount of unknowns in a race like the coventry it might seems ridiculous to put this up as a confident selection. but i havent liked a two year old as much as elzaam for a long long time. tipped up by tony elves in the weekender as well.

By an outstanding sire, and it's no surprise to see Elzaam have a lovely fluent action given the breeding. I'm happily going to back him over the top 2 in the betting.

100% agree with everything you say, MP. I had heard he was very nice before, but wasn't quite expecting him to be so impressive at York. I just hope we aren't getting excited over nothing, and I am happy to see the form starting to work out (would be nice to see Sir Reginald bolt up tomorrow), the seventh placing at Listed level earlier this week in Ireland.

It will basically ruin my Ascot if he doesn't win on Tuesday!! Sad
Report mythical prince June 12, 2010 12:24 AM BST
yeah he's a really great big black bold type, cream of the crop. basically at york he showed a lot of early pace to get to the front and dominate from an early stage.

I think that kind of early speed is a very useful quality in two year old races as for example canford cliffs and jealous again showed last year. You know in the coventry you have a lot of inexperienced types but he looks like he'll be much more forward and professional than most.

he made a huge move in the middle of the race at york and although he was running on empty at the end the race was essentially won by then. of course there are many dangers of which the biggest i'd probably nominate as strong suit from the hannon yard, but I have every faith in this horse.

fair boost for the form there, with sir reginald winning, albeit unimpressively
Report Augustine June 13, 2010 12:25 AM BST
Not much of a boost, really. Strong Suit's form has stood up better and it may get franked again at Donny tomorrow. I like Elzaam and I've saved on him at 7/1 for the Coventry but Strong Suit looks the one.
Report Futurity June 13, 2010 8:10 AM BST
I agree with Augustine. Sir Reginald was actually a negative for the form. If Elzaam is a Coventry winner then Sir Reginald should have done it more like Neebras did it at Goodwood. Having said that, I wouldn't be tearing up my Elzaam betting slip. Just have to put it down to Sir Reginald having an off day. Rerouted, Tinkertown and Juliet Capulet have all franked the form.

does no one else like samuel morse? i thought he did well last time out, i know the 2nd has let the form down, but the 4th.... tommy stack horse, cant remember the name... hacked up at epsom last sat....
Report sj June 13, 2010 10:19 AM BST
yep like SM ,step up to six looks like it should be a plus,Zoffany could well have a chance as well. The 4th you were thinking of is High Award who won the Woodcote at epsom
Report themanwho June 13, 2010 10:23 AM BST
thats it sj, cheers... he was impressive and i really like SM... o brien won the coventry with henrythenav, rock of gib and oratorio were both beat in it so we know he aims a very good one at this race!
Report mythical prince June 13, 2010 12:44 PM BST
tbh i've heard that zoffany is actually the one of the obrien pair. this horse quickened impressively to win both starts and ok the form isn't great but then the samuel morse form has been let down as well.

of course you have to respect samuel morse as he's stayed on over 5 furlongs when he's got a much stouter pedigree, but to me he's looked a bit laboured. would'nt be the first time that a supposed obrien second string has turned out be the better one.

strong suit is interesting as this oozed class on it's debut but it didn't have the same breathtaking affect visually that canford cliffs did in his maiden win at the same venue.. of course next tuesday could be a benefit day for the hannon-hughes combo with canford and paco.. if they both go in then strong suit will be most likely hammered off the boards.

all in all i'm leaning towards elzaam with a possible saver on this zoffany.

mp

they said on the attheraces preview that 'they heard'zoffany was the one from ballydoyle(cant remember who it  was though)

Murtagh down to ride Zoffany
Report amaru June 13, 2010 1:38 PM BST
Zoffany is to be ridden by Johnny so that would indicate he is their number one, Ryan Moore on Samuel Morse.
Report mythical prince June 13, 2010 1:41 PM BST
yeah thats a good pointer to zoffany... i know charlton 2 is keen on this one amongst others.. he certainly looks a classy type of two year old
Report school of science June 14, 2010 6:22 PM BST
What a cracking race, Strong Suit,Elzaam and Zoffany are all Timeform large P horses and all three are hugely exciting prospects

Strong Suit's Newbury form was franked yet again yesterday with third place Formosina strolling home at Doncaster, that adds to Neebras & Major Conquest both winning since,he will take some pegging back

However I do like Elzaam, was at Sandown on friday and his two year old Toolain was an unlucky loser,Michael Jarvis  has 3 winners from just 7 runners,Elzaam as mentioned was so impressive last time soon striding along and finding plenty, probably the value for money at 5/1

A race to savour and loads of winners should come out of this race

Am I correct that Elzaam is a Redoute's Choice colt??

Being a 2008 from Aus would make him a late 1 year old?!?!

****, MP has backed another of my selections today.

Hey ho, still plenty of time for him to jump ship on to the jolly.

Cheers Cream,

Redoute's has a terrific record with classy 2yo's.

Can hardly claim to have a huge grip on the 2yo form over there but I'll go out on a limb and say he'll win this with his head on his chest...Grin

ran exactly the same race he did at york really- on the sectionals there he got tired in the final furlong- after making a huge move in the middle

still compensation awaits, the front two some way clear Cry

cheers- canford cliffs paco double just got gubbed as well Cry

least theres manifest and showcasing to come Cool

tbh if this strong suit had got beat would have been an unlucky loser anyway considering the passage it had. i mean plenty were keen on it on here and the form was all in the book, although elzaams form was good as well.

i get more pleasure from the fact i identified elzaam as a decent colt rather than any money won/lost as that just comes and goes anyway. Cool
Report Angel Gabrial June 15, 2010 5:34 PM BST
I backed Elzaam E/W He looked like he lost his action a little in the first furlong and R Hills had to get after him early which surprised me.

Als MP why do you back in doubles ? not sure you gain much more than if you backed 2 singles. At least you can wait and see how the horses are behaving before you punt. Your not saving 9% like back in the day.[;)]
