Voodoo Prince, the first offspring of the great racemare Ouija Board, moved a step nearer to making his racecourse debut after a workout in Newmarket on Tuesday morning.
A son of Kingmambo, Voodoo Prince is owned by Lord Derby and trained by Ed Dunlop, as was his dam, and while the early signs are good, Dunlop is keen not to get too carried away just yet.
"He did a little bit of fast work this morning and that was only the second time," said Dunlop.
"It was just easy stuff on the Al Bahathri. He's going nicely and is pleasing me. He's grown a little bit again and is a nice, big horse.
"He's got a bit of a temperament,- he's a little bit babyish at times.
"I've been thinking long and hard but I'll probably wait for the seven-furlong maidens to begin before we start him off.
"He looks slightly more mature than the mother and I would think that comes from the Kingmambo side and he appears to have some speed which is obviously good.
"It's early days to be getting excited about him, but at the moment the vibes are OK.
"He's got a hard act to follow being by Kingmambo out of her, but I think a lot of Kingmambo has been stamped into him.
"It was interesting that I went to see her Monsun yearling recently and that one looks a lot more like mum and she's hopefully back in foal to Galileo too.
"The pressure is on this horse so we'll see how he gets on."
