1.DISTANT MEMORIES [ 17 ]
A decent 2nd to ALBAQAA last time out at Ponty but with all 3 wins
coming on good to soft / soft & heavy the ground today is a question mark
as well as carrying 9-10 with Spencer on board .Hard to see him winning here .

2 .SHAMALI [16]
Trainer respected and can get them ready first time out in these h'caps
as proved in the Lincoln .This one not seen since last July when winning
nicely and appears to have a touch of class. Both wins have been over 10fur
so this 9fur trip a slight question mark but there should be a decent gallop on here .
Seems to have a good chance on paper but priced accordingly .

3. ALBAQAA [10]
Well backed at Ponty and duly won after a promising run in the Lincoln .
In here on 9-5 and you have to feel there maybe a couple of his rivals
better handicapped . Can see him running well though without winning .

4 . RIGGINS [4]
Very lightly raced 6 -y-o now with Balding after leaving Cumani yard .
First appearance since being sent off jt. fav for John Smiths Cup at York
in mid july when finishing out with the washing .
Had previously looked good in 3 victories and a interesting contender .

5. TARTAN GIGHA [15]
One of 2 Johnston runners who ran 2nd last time out to an easy winner .
Fallon on board but only 4 wins from 30 races and looks a shade high in
the weights to me .

6. KAOLAK [14]
Blazed a trail for 5f in the Lincoln before dropping away and can only see
a similar story here .Easily passed over .

7 . BIG BAY [8]
Ran a shocker in the Newbury Spring Cup finishing tailed off and with connections
wanting rain hard to see him cutting much ice here and another who gets the red line .

8 . BRUNSTON [6]
Had the run of the race to pull off a 40-1 shock victory in Newbury Spring Cup and will be
interesting to see if the form stands up here with several rivals from that race taking him
on again .The trip and probable good pace will suit but hard to see him pulling off a unique double .

9. SANDER [9]
Another horse who will be seen in a better light over 10fur + and needed all of Jimmy Fortunes
strength in the saddle to win at Sandown last season .One to keep an eye on but not for me here .

10.TARTAN GUNNA[12]
The other 'tartan' runner for Johnston .
Last 2 starts have been ok but also been slowly away on both occasions with would have
to be a worry. I give him a better chance than 'GIGHA ' but i can't see him taking this race .

11. VIVA VETTORI [11]
Still the 3 wins at Kempton to his name and ran as well as could be expected this season .
Did finish a deent 2nd in this race last year to Confront though which offers some hope and
at around 20-1 could repay e-w support .

12 .ITHINKBEST [13]
Represents last years winning connections and gets in here of 8-5 which looks fair enough
on what he as achieved so far .Will need to improve but as the scope to do so but at around 5-1
is passed over .

13 . ELLIPTICAL [7]
Finished a creditable 2nd last time out and a very interesting jockey booking .
Still only lightly raced and makes my short list although low draw may prove a problem .

14. DALRADIAN [3]
One of the chief sufferers in rough Newbury Spring Cup but slight concern that he hasn't
won on turf yet .Drawn 3 and looks to be priced pretty short to me .

15 . MARVO [2]
A creditable 2nd to Harrison George last time out at Ponty with TARTAN GIGHA in 3rd place
but others appear to have stronger claims in this race .

16 . NEGOTIATION [5]
2 very poor runs this season and will have to show vast improvement to figure here .

17 . LORD THEO [1]
No show at Epsom first time out and despite only carrying 7-13 here hard to see him
showing anything better here from the 1 stall .

SUMMARY

A very interesting race with the Newbury Spring Cup form being well represented .
Quite a few horses will need a strong pace to bring their stamina into play .
The pace of the race appears to be mid /high .

SELECTION

Another good write up CC. I haven't studied this race myself as I'm trying to crack the 25 runner 6f race tomorrow (headache). But good luck with your selections, I shall keep an eye out.

Nice write up CC. Just looked at this race, and can't disagree with anything you've said. Can't really see a bet, but Dalradian looks on a good turf mark if he's anywhere near as good as on the AW.
Report ben10 May 1, 2010 12:17 PM BST
Dalradian looks a big notebook horse for this, stable going very well as well.
Report PHS May 1, 2010 1:40 PM BST
The worry about Dalradian would be that Hugh Taylor hasn't selected his fav horse ;)

REVIEW

The winner given a great ride by Fallon and kept on gamely .Clearly suited to this
trip after a fine effort in last seasons cambrigeshire .
Eliptical and Riggins both ran sound races and should be kept on the right side for the future .
The Newbury Spring Cup form was let down badly by Brunston and my selection Shamali despite
fly jumping out of the stalls had a chance 2f out but couldn't land a blow .
Report Sir Epicure Mammon May 1, 2010 7:45 PM BST
Shamali always needs his first run of the season.
Would expect him to be aimed at the Hunt Cup and a win today would not help his cause in that race.
