Have to say that the fact the Stoute yard isn't exactly firing makes the performance even more impressive. Going to be tough to beat this season.

Well he's beaten nothing really. It was a wide-open betting contest and there were so few proper horses in there. The only proper Group 1 horse was very unfit and hated the ground while Allied Powers also finished out the back. Also why bother running him in the Ormonde when the Coronation Cup's only 3 weeks later?

John Porter is generally a mix of progressive handicappers from previous season along with G3 performers with Q marks. So apart from the the quality of the field, the similarity with Brush Aside is that Harbinger is by all accounts a very delicate sort who could just blow put next time.

When he ran at Chester there were reports that he had been difficult to train ( as opposed to solely mature). Furthermore, that York performance was a real stinker. How many promising types have ran a no race in that event and turned into G1's at 4.

Not that it has anything to do with Harbinger's future career but Papal Bull and Stage Gift are 2 who ran stinkers in the GV and went on to win G2'S and go close in G1's.

Papal Bull had always evidently been a gem at home with a dodgy mind - when he made his racecourse debut Fallon was at Haydock for the G1 sprint and flew down to Newmarket to ride him. He was a registered iffy minder before that York run. My original point is simply not to get carried away with early season G3's, and I used Brush Aside as an example with him being a JP winner too, and having probs at home.
