Too difficult.
Report Cream Of The Crop April 16, 2010 9:54 PM BST
Agreed, Manifest.
Report harchibald April 16, 2010 10:01 PM BST
Have a look at Luca's website. Nowt expected tomorrow from Purple Moon, that's one you can eliminate.

Clowance a danger I grant you that.
Harbinger not reliable enough.
Akmal - love him, had him LTO ironically enough but wants further.
Traffic Guard - a danger.
Halicarnassus - surely not but who knows.
Buxted - AW mince ?

And in the words of Aussie Jim 'yer can forget the rest' ...

At Newbury tomorrow we run Purple Moon in the John Porter and Forte Dei Marmi in one of the supporting handicaps. Purple Moon has got over the foot abscess problems that caused him to miss the Sheema Classic in Dubai, but even though we have got some more work into him since then he will still need this first run for over a year. Assuming all is well, he will then head for the Yorkshire Cup

Just about the way I have read the race, and very much hope Manifest has matured through the winter as they always expected him to. I think he found the ground a little too quick for him at HQ in the Noel Murless, and he was beaten by a couple of horses who went on to fight out the finish of a Group 2 next time, so the form reads well.
Report brigust1 April 16, 2010 10:17 PM BST
I think the overlooked horse here is Claremont.
In the context of this race where many will need it, some are don't knows and others have no chance, at 20/1 it is a fantastic bet.
Beaten 2l by Campanologist in a hot Gr2 last time where those around him would win this race tomorrow and he even ran well first time out in a good race before that at Meydan. Good form with Group horses in France last year and pretty much unexposed.
Report Mark My Words April 16, 2010 10:21 PM BST
Apparently harbinger has done extremely well over the winter and according to the work watcher on RPTV he has been one the most impressive horses on the gallops. The team are expecting a big season from.
Report harchibald April 16, 2010 10:22 PM BST
mmmmmmmmmmm re Claremont and Harbinger yes you both have good points.
Certainly Harb being backed isn't he ?
Report PHS April 16, 2010 10:59 PM BST
Just spent an hour looking at this. Looks impossible; seen 16 runner handicaps that look easier. Maybe you need to be a 12f specialist to look at this race.

Those I couldn't eliminate;

Halicarnassus - seems to be getting better. Penalty ?

Akmal - need further ? Maybe not., but Dunlop surely left something to work with.

Buxted - v impressive, who knows

Harbinger - your guess is as good...

Manifest - as above

Bet the winner's not in that list.

No bet.
Report brigust1 April 16, 2010 11:06 PM BST
PHS you spent an hour looking at this did you not see Claremont?
Report PHS April 16, 2010 11:17 PM BST
I did.

Wrote off on basis of Trainer first yr in this country and Meydan runners not doing all that well historically when coming over here.

Out of a Prix Vermeille winner though is nice. Also, by Sadlers Wells, so may prefer some cut, although I'm aware he's produced his fair share of fast ground horses.
Report brigust1 April 16, 2010 11:38 PM BST
PHS Claremont has an Official rating of 113 only two horses Purple Moon 115 and Traffic Guard 114 are rated higher and both are first time out and giving C a pound. The trainer has taken over a chunk of Godolphin horses in partnership with Bin Suroor and he won one of the top races on World Cup night. Group form and group horses throughout his short career and I think it has a fantastic chance and 20s is too big.

Should Buzzard Blues really be 50/1 with the blinkers back on, or am I being too simplistic?
Report sintonian April 17, 2010 12:14 AM BST
Was looking at him too Ben. It's one of those races where you just cant decided.
Report ben10 April 17, 2010 12:17 AM BST
Probably haven't explained that very well but he's clearly a quirky customer, the trip will suit and no reason for him not to have improved this year; if he was Cecil's only runner he'd be much shorter and looks the sort to show little at home the way he his so perhaps no one knows what he's capable of on a racecourse as his maiden shows.
Report ben10 April 17, 2010 12:19 AM BST
Sorry sint, was typing that while you posted, certainly a few possibles but so many doubts over all of them and there's at least 5 who are having prep runs for races over further.
Report ben10 April 17, 2010 12:26 AM BST
Can't believe every bookie isn't going quarter odds either, worth looking out if you're an each way player.
Report sintonian April 17, 2010 12:27 AM BST
Yep loads being prep'd. BB has all the top entreis fwiw.
Report sintonian April 17, 2010 12:34 AM BST
Think i'll avoid betting at Newbury all-together tomorrow.

Just looking at this Calremont

Penultimate race in Meydan he looked good - despite in his last the write up describing him as a 'one paced galloper' I think he showed something of a turn to quicken up around the outside of them when 4th Halicarnassus there. Visually impressed.

The last day there he went up the backside of his stable mate and was checked twice before his ran began in earnest but looked full of running, no chance with the first 3 or 4 home who had flown.

I think he might be too big at 20's whether or not I'll get on I don't know

have backed clairemont and cecils second string blizzard blues those at the top of the market all seem to have doubts about them however if purple moon goes any bigger i will have to have a dabble on him also
Report harchibald April 17, 2010 1:03 PM BST
Could not back Purple given stable's candid approach and comments

Have covered 1pt on Claremont. Could have the edge on fitness, possibly needed more cut that he would have gotten out in Dubai and could all fall right for him.

Manifest
Claremont

That's me done now on this race.
Report redal2 April 17, 2010 1:06 PM BST
I'm having an EW small bet on Dansili Dancer based on nothing more than fitness and a nice time recently. The 1/4 odds the place that ben pointed out has encouraged me to have a go.
