AGREED
Totally, totally inept, he actually looked clueless when it became apparent he could be looking at soft ground, WAC. |
By:
Catt: "So plenty of rain about, you've poured water all over the course, it might get a bit softer out there?" (genuine surprise in voice)
CS: (looking as if just hit by a taser gun) "Well, yes we've had 4mm, rain is predicted all afternoon, it may well be riding even easier later on" (looks troubled) Catt: (laughs) "So should be perfect racing ground then!" CS: (yet to move from being stunned): "Well the track dries quickly...." (looks bemused) Catt: "Excellent stuff there". FIRST CLASS PROFESSIONAL STUFF ALL ROUND |

am afraid it gets worse
Good goingThe going remains good following the first and most of the jockeys agreed that this was an accurate description. The winning time was 1min 18.31sec which was around 5 seconds slower than standard, which may seem a little slow but it was a two-year-old race and the jockeys went a sensible pace. The sun is shinning at present and it will not take long to dry out. oh dear |
By:
What is Graham actually trying to say?
It should be g/f all round? Hence saying it will dry out (as desired)? |
By:
making excuses for that c0cksucker imo. why cant they just accept that its heavy and its down to that tool

This is the kind of thing i bang on about stick readings being taken after the last race. This reading and description will enter the form book
By:
In hindsight, Walk On Water and Sea Lord should have been backed..................
By:
Stick reading could be in FATHOMS by 5pm Zil?
By:
Yep, there will be more complaints from bookmakers when a raft of non runners come out again tomorrow morning as well

Tartan Bearer could be a very high profile one.......

Has anyone ask " The Stick " why he watered at the start of the week ?
By:
Stickels has prepared Ascot in accordance withthe directives given to him by the BHA. He's openly discussed his watering of the course with print and broadcast media in the run up to the meeting and on the day and continues to give up to the minute updates. He's provided individual going stick readings on the day of racing from near sides, stands side and middle of the straight course.
In return, on this thread alone, he's called a c**t, a c**k s***er, and invited to 'do one'. At a time when some of the points raised by threads like clerkwatch are being taken seriously in some quarters do you think that threads like this will have the effect of making racing professionals and racing media a)take views of this forum seriously and seek to respond to issues of genuine importance b)file under 'ranting pondlife' and close ranks And he's the idiot apparently? Good luck with the campaign chaps. |

By:
hello vartz, nice of you to join in
has this farce of appalling ground happened before? and in your opinion will it happen again? Thanks (ps if i knew the forecast on monday, is there any chance the C0c should too and the racing authorities and media he liased with? etc) |

Has anyone ask " The Stick " why he watered at the start of the week ? So why did he water, when the forecast was dubious to say the least ? |
By:
When was the directive that you had to water when heavy rain was forecast published ?
I must have missed that one. |
By:
vartz,
thanks for that totally cringeworthy input now you can FO too |
By:
That is a good point Vartz, ive tried to refrain from using language like that, and would ask other people to do the same. People sometimes get overheated and this may be one of these times.
im sure we can all agree that constructive is the way to go, maybe a little humour might go amiss but lets not get too personal. |

By:
And of course, flyingbolt puts in a totally valid point across
By:
Agree with the point about the abuse Vartz, but the question being asked here remains an important one.....
Should he have been watering in view of the forecast? People dont like it People betting cash money on the sport get irate, it happens... It's alright merrily announcing that you are watering away without a care in the world (because no one is monitoring you) despite a forcast that tells you rain is coming & your own stick readings tell you it's safe ground anyway.......But dont be surprised if people dont like it.... I no longer bet on the straight course at Ascot mate, but I've just seen a 2yo with THE most pronounced soft ground action I've seen in eons come home with the field strung out like 3m chasers. The formbook will say 'good' & a stick reading near 10.0 I will oppose this heavily on anything remotely quick in the future..... |
By:
it's all on the clerkwatch thread not this one
this one is designed for an on the day rant, i believe, because this is what it really feels like when he does what he does nothing wrong with not getting it, vartz, you just look a bit stupid on a forum, no bother |
By:
b)file under 'ranting pondlife' and close ranks
................................................................... plenty of pondlife at ascot, if stickels continues his policy to water in advance of a very heavy rain f/cast a flock of flamingo's might take up permanent residence or the local chinese illegals might start sewing paddie fields. |
By:
what do you think the going stick reading would have been this morning with no watering earlier in the week jonjo?
By:
At the end of the day this is a c.ck up at one of the biggest meetings of the year, everybody knew rain was coming,so as i said " why did he water at the start of the week ? " Thats the question that needs answering.
By:
WITH NO WATERING IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FAST GROUND
GOOD TO FIRM AND IT WOULD HAVE RAINED FFS |
By:
I would have said in the 10.6 to 10.8 range Vartz, with the rain that was f/c and arrived around here this week, hes raced on faster before.
By:
not that hard is it really ?:|
