a few years back now just before Christmas and forgot the name of the horse but was trained by D. Morris (had the word Gold in its name if i remember correctly) and went off as 11/4 fav on the all weather---laid it in-running for just over 6 quid at 1000 and made over 6k for the small outlay----it doesnt get any better than that.

Best ever single was Collier Bay in the CH. £50 at 20/1 and a bit more on the day. The nearest I came to a really big pay day was £40 win on each and a £40 e/w double Venture Capitalist in the Wokingham and Piccolo in the Kings Stand. VC was fourth beaten 3 heads at 50/1 while Piccolo won at 33/1. Three of us would have shared about £70k if VC had won. As it was we cleared £4k.

29 Mar 09 - Doncaster 17:40 (wont forget that race in a hurry!)

Fancied course specialist Red Wine (18/1) big time on a very nice mark. Studied the others & noted two dangers-Monfils Monfils (12/120/1) and Lytham (16/1). Backed all three each-way, with 6 SFC's and TC's. Biggest bet was on Red Wine whom I watched throughout the race, late on making massive headway to throw down a challenge to the leader who I had learnt through commentary was Monfils Monfils-as I was most concerned with Red Wine running well I wasnt too sure where the other two had been. I was made up to have MM win and RW placed,but the forecast was a huge bonus. So you can imagine how I felt when the commentator announced Lytham 3rd too!

SFC £207.47 but the Tricast £3474.38!!

What made this even more satisfying was the fact I had landed not one but two big field handicaps this day, after Forgotten Voice led home Zaahid & Filipando in the Lincoln for a TC £555. The reports were strong on the Fav, and I backed it to bt the (possibly favoured) lower drawn horses in Tricast perms, with Zaahid eventually coming 2nd from stall 2 and Filipando 3rd from stall 3. I'd staked my forecast and tricast bets in the later race in pounds rather than 50ps due to this bet coming in, so this was also a special race for me.

Ken Whelan rode it. Had made headway final 2f on its debut and sounded like it had been kept quiet out the back. Was only a teenager at the time, so only had a quid on it, but that was a lot of money then...I was gutted i never did the forecast in that race cos I really fancied the eventual 2nd (6s i think) and had backed that each-way, but missed out on the forecast

Big Guru that Arcalis landed me a nice touch too. Think I only got 22s or 25s tho. It had run against the top class hurdlers and the postmark it got for that race was the equal of anything in the cheltenham race, yet they reported it had come back sick from the run so would improve!! Biggest % return for me was to hit an e/w goliath for 20p about 5 years back. 7 winners 1 loser. Cleaned 5k - my brother won 7k. Shop manager took me in the back to count the money after sweeping 3 other shops and I returned to our office with a bulging manilla envelope.

I also had trebles with Blue Square on line for the same selections which returned 5k with them. Havent a clue what the selections were... was a pretty average days racing. A good day for me though... But small beer to some on here I'm sure.

Had one of those bad days down a good few quid . was on full tilt.
During the day the other half rang to say her mates dad had a tip. thought i would have a £100 on it , about 10/1 but now with blowing a large hole in the bank may not have anything left by the time it was on . She said it was called western something or other running at killarney i think.
I put £60 on the adrian maguire trained nag and then laid a richard hills hotpot for more than i could afford.it was pulled up I had got out of trouble for the day and then threw another £140 on the tip. It won At about 10/1 boy was I happy. The phone rang and she said it was called western devil running later. I had just backed the wrong western @ 10/1.
Now with a very healthy bank I put £500 on western devil at about 12/1 all in all. It also won but i had a £1000 lay in @ 2 which jumping the last i thought would never get matched.
Finished the day £7k up. Just shy of my lifetime losses on betfair.
Wish i had got out then, but i live the dream i will have a day like that again

Temple Place (think it was trained by McCain and ridden by that Aussie chap) at Chester a couple of years back. Form before the race 00000 but won same race year before. Bit worse for having a few tinnies and wanting an interest got a good few quid matched at over 200 before the off and thought i'd lay some off in running but for some strange reason typed in 400. Eye, it won at an SP of 50/1. What should have been a very good day became only a goodish day. Other interesting one was at Donny last year. Day of racing connections were in the local nanny shop and sent his wife up to the counter wanting £50 ew at 150/1. You've guessed it nanny wouldn't lay more than 20p. Anyway one of the die hards heard them trying to get the bet on and I had a little interest on here. Just over 100 to be placed and nearly max to win. Got greedy and instead of place only betting thought I'd have a good bet to win. Finished second and looked as though might win three out. You live and learn.

Had a throwaway Lucky 15 on the Pipe 4 timer @ Paddy Power meeting about 7 years ago. Cyfor Malta 16/1, Stormez 5/1, Don Fernando 9/2 and Tarxien 5/2. Picked up close to £2,000 for a £30 outlay.

The beauty i find with doing my betting tissue is that i only need one winner in five races to make a profit.
There are alot of 'mug' punters who back the favourite blind without researching.
There is value out there, it just takes alot of hard work.

If i go to a race meeting, i will spend between two and three hours on each race going through the form.
On course, i find the tote to have some cracking value.

I'm not saying i make a packet, but its great having a decent priced winner when nobody else is on!

I only do this tissue in the winter as i'm not as good at equating the flat form.

The last time i had time to do this was at cheltenham a few weeks ago and had a 20/1 martin pipe winner, and a 20/1 second place.
