I see he is entered in a 2mile Nov Chase @ Ayr on Wednesday.

Does anyone know if he is likely to take up the engagement? (I plan to go if confirmed)

It could be quite informative as the promising N Richards horse, Noble Alan, is a likely runner.

Here's hoping the horse retains the ability he showed over hurdles before his injury setback. If he does, he would be a fascinating addition to the array of talent currently on course for the Arkle Chase.

yes, only the irish could have an irish equivalent to the irish independant arkle....
Report Far From Trouble January 4, 2010 2:21 PM GMT
good news imo
Report TD_Gunner January 4, 2010 2:22 PM GMT
yep as an Arkle backer, im happy with that :)
Report trev w January 4, 2010 2:27 PM GMT
really glad to see him running again before chelts....and hopefully an easier confidence boosting win, than going for the irish arkle. nice to see running plans given out this early aswell :)
Report Far From Trouble January 4, 2010 2:36 PM GMT
6/1 best price as well now :0
Report 1stpastthepost January 4, 2010 4:29 PM GMT
I'd definitely rather he didnt run again, he's already showed he can win after a lay off as he won the supreme not running after november, he's bled in the past and most 2 milers are best fresh.
strange decision to run him again imo, he'll probably win easily in feb, but will it take the edge off for march?
Report ben10 January 4, 2010 4:31 PM GMT
Must say I'm in two minds about it, both sides make sense, just have to trust them to get him right for the day.
Report woodworm January 4, 2010 4:34 PM GMT
Nonsense.
He's avoiding all the good horses in the Irish arkle and having a quiet confidence booster 5wks prior to cheltenham.
Havent backed the horse but excellent plans by the connections to give the horse its best chance of glory at the festival.
Good luck to them.
Report trev w January 4, 2010 4:35 PM GMT
1st past....can see your point....but taking the hopefully easier route...i'd sooner see him get some more experience.....but who knows with the weather, he may not get to run anyway if we get another cold spell.
Report Can't Catch Me January 4, 2010 4:35 PM GMT
Can see both sides too. Although if they give him another run sooner rather than later they can tick both boxes imo.

If they run him first week of Feb that will still give him 5/6 weeks to be nice and fresh for the big day and if he were mine, I would definitely like to see him have a confidence booster before the Arkle.
Report trev w January 4, 2010 4:36 PM GMT
i think AP would like to get another spin on him, before the big day also.
Report CVByrne January 4, 2010 4:37 PM GMT
I agree ben, getting him to have a clear round of jumping under his belt to get him over that fall but on the flip side running him fresh in the Arkle also makes sense.

Either way I'm willing to trust connections.
Report amaru January 4, 2010 4:39 PM GMT
Personally think its absolutely the right thing to do.
Report ReaseHeath January 4, 2010 7:37 PM GMT
me,too - would also add that trainer has done a great job to get him back to the level where he's an Arkle contender. Nobody would have been to surprised if he'd performed similarly to e.g. Nicanor on his comeback.
Report ReaseHeath January 4, 2010 7:45 PM GMT
^ probably not a fair example as Nicanor was off three years so getting him back at all is an achievement - but you get the point!
Report rhinestone January 4, 2010 8:08 PM GMT
Those with juicy bet's on CCB, are you covering your eye's at the 2nd last..? In case he doesn't get his landing gear down again.
Report Far From Trouble January 4, 2010 8:09 PM GMT
Nah, he'll be 10 lengths clear and easing down by then. He'll step over the last 2 fences
Report rhinestone January 4, 2010 8:13 PM GMT
I'd be suprised if he's within a length or two of the leader at the 2nd last, but agree if jumping soundly looks like he'll take the world of beating.
Report buddeliea January 4, 2010 8:13 PM GMT
There is a case for running again and not i think, but you have to think connections know what they are doing and just go along with it.One thing for sure if he turns up in March he is the one that i will have on my side, along with Somersby.
Report Dei Lucrii January 4, 2010 8:17 PM GMT
Forgive the lack of knowledge but has any horse EVER won the supreme then the arkle, let alone on it's only two course visits?
If they have, it's been a while.

Just going on that, plus the possible big field rough race scenario, he has to be a lay for me.
Report ben10 January 4, 2010 8:19 PM GMT
Not sure you can particularly regard that as a stat. Maybe coming back after a non specfic race to win another non specific Cheltenham race but plenty have done that.
Report Nomadic Way January 5, 2010 6:38 AM GMT
Has anyone got a stat on how many Arkle winners fell on the previous run ?

Report downallstar January 9, 2010 1:47 PM GMT
sj - just think time/ age will catch up with soon.
Fav's have a poor record, as do fallers, as do older horses.
He's being backed as if he would have beaten Sizing had he stood up, he may have, but we'll never know, i'm not convinced he would have. Either why jumping is the name of the game.

(Classy horse though, and great effort to get him back)

Report TD_Gunner January 9, 2010 1:51 PM GMT
who do you like for the Arkle down ?
Report downallstar January 9, 2010 1:56 PM GMT
Gunny - race is doing my nut in, too hard to call, however from a trends viewpoint - like Somersby, Sports Line & Riverside Theatre.
Tat also fits these, but am not convinced.

If MDH turns up, with a run under his belt I think he'll massacre them!

Would love to see Sizing go for the CC! He is an 8yo, and has 4 runs, which is decent experience for a novice. I'd say if MM doesn't make it he'll def go for it!! If MM turns up prob 5% chance of turning up?

tingle creek should be a hell of a race next year, that speed ball of nicholls that won at aintree, whos name i cant spell, golden silver, big zeb, the captain, sizing europe, somersby, mad max, twist magic, master minded to name a few all potentially in the mix, could be a classic. not to mention the queen mother itself of course. the two mile division has suddenly gone from being a poor relative to a fascinating conundrum.
