Oh...my...word! Roll on the next one. Please scrape me off the ceiling :-) Will speak later, just home and need to chillax for a few hours to and get my head around a marvellous three days. Love you VW :x
One thing to remember will be the position of the horse in the weights. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the lowest weighted horse that had actually made the race in recent years was 81st in the weights when they were first published, so anything below 70 or so may not get into the race. It always seems that every year that there is one horse that is quite fancied that either doesn't make the race, or the week before the race is squeeky bum time to see if enough horses above it drop out.
Also, once the weights are published, if the 40th entry in the race comes down to horses on the same weight when the weights are published I think (correct me if I am wrong) but the entry would come down to the horse that is higher in the handicap come the day of the declarations. Not sure what happes if they are still the same then? (alpahabetical order?)

Am trying to work out which entry could be the 'politically' themed winner of the race because if the General Election is to be held on 6th May, it would have to be officially announced by the Monday after the race to follow in the footsteps of Party Politics.
Does anyone know who is now the longest surviving National winner who is still with us in terms of the year they won the race, as Party Politics who died last year and Minnehoma seemed to be the longest surviving who took part in the previous winners parade on race day?

Tried to post a list of weights that included owners, but due to the fact you can't mention certain names-it won't post :-( Cheers Betfair, and your silly censorship :-(

I'm having really difficulty with the race this year. There's hardly anything that fits any of the previous stats etc. The weights and ages have bamboozled me slightly so far. My non-statistical quicky picks tonight would be: ARBOR SUPREME MON MOME FOLLOW THE PLAN EQUUS MAXIMUS
I really feel Mullins has got a "lurker" somewhere in that field.

I've backed a few over the last few months, and traded all but two back: Possol at 30 yet to trade back, Vic Venturi at 38 yet to trade back, Iris de balme, air force one, Treacle (won't get in), Mr pointment, Ballyfitz, Dooneys gate, Taranis and unfortunately church island. I still have an eye on a couple more.

Staying on eye catchingly 3rd in the Becher chase. Took to the fences and was staying on at the end. At the time didnt look like a very high standard Becher but the winner has proved it was good one by performances since and is now 20's.
The king of old-stager who has previously been classy but slightly lost his way but who has taken to the fences before and course might just be whats needed to keep him interested. Will be at bottom of the weights if he gets in and is definately being targeted at this.
I know he is badly handicapped compared to usual OR but has proved he copes with fences and thats a big plus.
Think he is the most overpriced horse in the race and cant beleive he is 500/1 after being a staying on 7 lengths down 3rd in one of the main trials for the race.

Honestly can somebody explain why he is this price. Think at 500/1 he s the most overpriced horse i've seen for a national and if somebody doesnt refute my arguement then im going to possibly keep backing him every time i've had a couple and start thinking mystically that i've cracked it.

You might be onto something-There are plenty of over hyped horses with too short a price and often there are under-hyped ones which fly under the radar.

Does anybody when it is possible to walk the course before racing starts? It does mention that you can on the website but not in much detail. I would quite like to get a close up view of those fences!
thankyou in advance.

Dunno mate. It's looking unlikely this year, work might make it a bit tricky. I'm off the booze now as well. Don't want to end up like Peter Barlow. :(

Bought my tickets last year as I've done for 20yrs. Slightly pished you can get a discount for the Thursday that's all! Would like to question Aintree about it.(ie-loyality etc) As you want to keep it secret that's your prerogative.

Would be handy to write to them... Dear Aintree, It has been brought to my attention that XXXX website is able to offer it's members 20% discount on Thursday tickets at Aintree. As a loyal purchaser of your tickets for 20 years, blah , blah.... ;-)

He'll go above all those on 10st7lb now as his official mark will go up. Be interesting.
Still 25/1 with VC and will surely be well handicapped in the race now, but will they go?

Maybes but he's 25/1 and will be probably 10lb well in.
Got this off Sporting Life - I think they will run. 25/1 seems too big to these eyes. Maybe I'm wrong.
Pipe said: "He's very nearly got there and in a couple more strides, I think he would have done.
"He's run a blinder and that happens a lot at Cheltenham.
"He'd be well in if he went for the Grand National after this run, but David Johnson (owner) would have a few possibilities and we'll see what he wants to do."

Don't think Knowhere will get in anyway, but Character Building was never at the races today and I suppose there must be a doubt about Aintree after that effort.

By Jon Lees 7:44AM 28 MAR 2010 AINTREE officials are in discussions with local transport chiefs to produce a contingency plan to avert widespread travel disruption during the John Smith's Grand National meeting in the event of a national rail strike.
The RMT rail union has called a four-day strike next month, the last two days of which coincide with the first two of the Grand National fixture, which includes the popular ladies' day. Heavy traffic congestion is likely if the strike is not averted.
No services are expected to run from London to Liverpool, and locally it will hit Merseyrail services running from central Liverpool to the station outside Aintree racecourse.
A notice on the Aintree website states: "We'd like to reassure any racegoers who plan to travel by train to Aintree for the first two days of the John Smith's Grand National Meeting (April 8-9) that we are currently working with local transport providers to plan replacement local services if a National Rail Strike does go ahead - however, please keep checking back to this page for updates and the latest information."
The racecourse's PR manager Emma Owen said: "Since we got notification of the strike at the end of last week, we've been in touch with Mersey Travel to take care of arrangements locally. I know a contingency plan is being worked on to make sure there is as little disruption as possible, but nationally it may cause problems."

Possibly a bit too boisterous there. Has a chance now. How many do we reckon are still to come out, especially with the soft ground?
Possibly Notre Pere and Madison Du Berlais.

Please 3 more out so Royal Rosa gets in. One voluntary withdrawal due to alternative target, one dirty scope and one because of ground issues would be lovely.
