As an esteemed judge on here from over the water once said to me. Some guess. Others know. With that pearl i bid u goodnight.

And in this case “ the guessers” got it right with tenpin. Walked out the boxes. Showed by far the best early but can’t afford to miss it as bad as he did. Any resemblance of a level break and would have been 3 clear at the bend. Somehow Patrick has got  Lion to win two finals this year...

Tenpin  - the fastest dog with the best ep in that race. However.
He is bang rails, watch him from T2 and his T3 romford trial.
He can cheat a modest/missed break from T1, possibly T2 because he has a straight uncontested line to
run through.
From T3/4/5 in a race like that he is charging straight into dogs like
Lettuce/Lion/Balynabee who are the same speed over the first 25 metres. In fact after a predictable shoddy start he couldnt clear the slug starting Lenson dog.
He had to smash from T5 to clear and I cant remember the last time a bang railer who has only ever been in T1/2 has done that first time in the box.

Like every other pro dog punter who did that race he was as clear and obvious lay at around evens-5/4 as you could get, it should be on the schools curriculum.

There are many knowledgable punters on here and I respect plenty. But my point was at the 8/15 4/6 quotes it was worth a lay for the reasons outlined by many. Once became an odds against shot I felt no value in being a layer as too much guesswork involved in to what was going to play out. As it turned out, he came out slower than JK leaving the buffet cart, and fair play to those who got the money!!

The above would be true if there were any strength to the market in question. Takes hardly more than £1k to either push out or cave in a price here ( even on big finals). Well from personal experience that’s how I’ve found it. My point again was that once it went to 5/4 11/8 etc... then it becomes a guess not worth taking. Too many variables to warrant a lay at that price. But laying 4/6 etc was worth that chance.

Exactly.. 100k.. terrible liquidity these days on here. By the time the books have hedged that takes out 75% of that liquidity. Means £25k been bet/layed on the race between the punters. A handful of people laying 2k or betting 2k and that’s the liquidity taken up. Hence it doesn’t take much to change a price at all

Not a reflection on just the greyhound markets, horse markets also running at a fraction of past good years. Whether it’s the premium charge or not I’m not sure. I don’t mind paying it along with plenty of others I know, but it becomes irritable when it’s leaving markets open to huge fluctuations for very little money...

You had it spot on private by continuing to lay it up to 2.4 unlike those with no opinion saying at odds on or evens it was a lay and at 2.4 or whatever it magically became a back.

PH., you are one of the most knowledgable around and it’s nice that a few of the old school posters are still here and betting their judgement. Fair play to you and I’m sure this won’t be the only time opinions clash.. but that’s why this game is the best around, the way we see races, prices and value. It’s the best sport around for that and I hope it has many years to come. Be lucky all.

the potential of probability can be gained either by guessing.....lazy town......undertake the mathematical equations...only reliable with known inputs or through years of educated experience gained by watching untold races allowing the provision of analytical decisions based on expert opinion.......for my money ph falls into the last category which is in a different post code to those guessing.......

you never ever know what is going through an animals brain.
Its hard enough working out humans.
So we are guessing what they are thinking.
How good we are at guessing , is what we pay to learn.
The odds that you get , and hopefully the return is your reward.
But one thing in this sport is absolutely certain in my experience.
You never know.

Imo he,s a 66/1 chance currently. Wedge has put up 5 random dogs. H.q. he would probably get lapped. You av to realise the difference btwn irish dogs an english dogs is huge. You only need to look at last few derbys. Cant find english dogs on radar. The irish dont sell the good dogs anymore. I reckon i could name 20 dogs 525 irish dogs that would lick him in a match h.q. upwards of 30 dogs 550.
