Surely only temporary, a reasonable precaution for the time being. Requires a little less admin in the racing office in their quest to keep the show on the road.

Never worked in a racing office, but do know Henlow were under pressure before Covid with all the new dogs and new trainers in trying to frame races. More difficult now with unfit dogs and less trials. Then presumably more 6-bend trials to make up the grades. Seems easy, but I would still guess greater workload is not want they want at present. Can't be that easy or it would probably have been done. Done way with these races altogether , seems to be a very premature conclusion.

As you must know Mike most tracks have virtually eliminated 6 bend graded races and it's only matter of time before they completely disappear in favour of that 2 bend nonsense.

Opens at Crayford are fine case but my point is mainly about graded stayers which tracks are no longer catering for and all we see is an ever increasing number of the other dross. Even the stayers opens at other tracks are on the decrease and the future looks grim to me.

Cray and Romford seem to be the only tracks with regular graded stayers ,if you can call there lap and a half a stayers race ,henlow same , some of the graded sprints they put on at some tracks are pure dross and card fillers ,poole was the worse,I actually had a bet on a dog in one race thinking it looked a Big runner , it would have been if the race had not been a sprint I didnt even bother looking at the distance of the race as no way anyone would have thought it was a sprint the dogs that were in it ..

I had been watching greyhound racing for many years before I came across a 2 bend race and that was at a flapping track. People would have never stood for that rubbish back then and the tracks knew it. You can always tell when a track starts to struggle as that is when the longer distance graded races start to disappear and Wimbledon was a perfect example where at one time there would be S1 down to S5 and eventually none at all.

Exactly wedge and it must be sickening to own such a dog and be treated like that. The game is being slaughtered these days with this monotonous dross being served up on a daily basis.

shiner.....You talk about 6 bend races as if they were some sort of new experiment! What is new and certainly a "lottery" is all these numerous 2 bend affairs.

i used to think sprints were for mugs untill i was a bookie at hove i soon realised i did a lot better in the 695s with a short run to the bend than the 285s with a long run to the bend

Shiner, I'm sure it hasn't escaped you, but the run to the bend in 2-bend sprint races is the same as the run to the bend in 6-bend staying races at most tracks. With a few exceptions of course, where the run to the bend in some 6-bend races is even greater.

Similarly at Monmore, that is why I said there were a few exceptions. Been attending tracks since 1967, and as a rule the traps for 2&6 bend races, and those for 4&8 were predominantly used. Changed over the years of course, with these intermediate distances. Many more inside hares back then also.
