Unless ARC pull up a few mill we need a new venue for next years event.
My pick would be HOVE 500m. Move boxes forward 15 metres and Bobs your Auntie. Lets just hope the prrrrcks that run the gaff have the gumption to apply for it. It would also help the graded strength to reduce standard distance.
Central Park 480m would be my 2nd suggestion. Track better since banking sorted. Already frequented by top class trainers. Great viewing and potential for big crowds around bends. Would prefer the English Derby to place emphasis on Speed than Stamina - leave that to 500m shel and the million Cat 1's over 550+.
There are no other candidates.
Nottingham - you cant see anything unless on front row of restaurant.
Monmore - not enough room for 5/6k people.
Newcastle - Horrible first bend, way too far north and fcccknng freezing even in July.
Sheffield - NO.

The Captain has decided Hove or some track called Central Park. There are no other candidates he has ruled.

Always open to suggestions. Please give positives for Newcastle. I cant think of one.
1) The first bend at Newcastle is v tight and there is carnage every other race.
2) Most of the top trainers in the country are based from midlands down so its a lot of travel for everyone bar A Harrison!
3) The weather is horrible even in summer?

Just a personal opinion, but I always believed that it should’ve gone to Wembley or Hove after White City closed. Politics dictated that it went to Wimbledon.
I still believe that Hove is the most suitable running surface, but I don’t recall the owners throwing their hat into the ring when the event was up for grabs a couple of years ago. Is it possible that their priorities are providing impossible-to-work-out betting shop fodder than sponsoring the Blue Riband event? Sadly, it seems to me, that the Bookies regard greyhound racing as a numbers game and not a lot different to a FOBT and they don’t seem to be too bothered about promoting quality..

If Newcastle is way too far North, then i'd suggest Hove is way too far south!!
What price the rpgtv mob come up with a different venue every year. Be just like them.
Speaking with Bob Rowe before Towcester got the Derby contract, he said that wasn't the way to go - still being in its infancy. He was right

Just my opinion slippy distance to far 515 n no parking. Hove doing renovations now. Nearly done. Don't think moving judges box or winning line an option to make it 480 or 500.

judged by process last time I don't think many tracks will be knocking over wheelchairs to rush to get their application in
U can bet diamonds Mr cearns will be in for it that's for sure.
The GBGB will wait until about March before trying to find a new home for the derby and also try and get a new sponsor, as i'll be very surprised if Star Sports continue with the sponsorship.

I never did blame him for the sports decline Woody, I was simply asking did he really do an excellent job when the sport has been in decline for so long, before my time (in the UK anyway)

White City was of course different class.
The spectacle of the competition on a grass track under lights had an atmosphere on its own.
The paraders were immaculate, and all sides of the track were packed out.
But additional to all this, it was the first time we were able to see the fearsome Irish dogs with their big reputations.
All this can never be replicated nowadays alas.
My own view is a centrally located venue, and only Birmingham fits the bill, but investment in a selected track would be needed.
I wish Betfair would step up to the plate, as I'm sure they benefit more than any other gambling firm and have the finance to fund
a revival,after all they invest in sports in other sports /countries already.

rothman if you remember a few years the trainers royally mugged betfair off when they sponsored the trainers championship (amongst other events)
after that they pulled out and I doubt they will ever get involved again

If newcastle were Located in the Midlands there could be Only one Track its not, But then how many dogs are based Deep south these Days ? Shirley Monmore in with a shout ?
Saying that Toon didnt even throw their hat in the Ring last time.
Not sure of the detail of that, but many of the trainers have voiced their desire to resurrect the Trainers Championship, so perhaps that is one of the jobs of members of the GBGB or whoever is running the show now, to use their diplomacy to deal with all these issues.

This latest crisis could well turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
All the interested parties must realise this is now very serious, and to survive they must all work together.
No more infighting,and proper ambassadors of the sport need to be pro-active in selling the sport and devising
a workable plan.
It is their livelihood at stake as well as the future of the sport.
