Here's my take on the first two heats on Friday. If any of you want more happy to publish, if not no problem. Good luck all.
FRIDAY Heat 1 1 Karlow Scolar Don’t know how good this one is ( if at all ) but he is game. Repeatedly hmpd. by Hey Bound, in a poor heat, he never gave up and eventually asserted inside at the 4th when the race was well gone. Not sure this is his box. 2 Image Coches Wanted in to rail from T3 in heat and suffered accordingly. Ran on well though to qualify. Another railer. 3 Distant Rain Railer with excellent early. Would prefer red jacket in my opinion and will want in. Trouble may result. 4 Borna Gin Held his line down from T3, showed good early pace and swung mid to wide around 2nd bend and into back straight. Should get a great run with T’s 2 and 3 wanting into the rail but will find Murrys out there this time. For me his same running wins this. 5 Ashbank Christie (m) Hasn’t been coming away – we have to assume that will continue – but he should be able to run on for third spot, particularly as trouble looms for the inside runners. 6 Murrys Act (w) Terrific first round run and still a top class greyhound who runs the track so well. 4 6 5 Heat 2 1 Da Head Hunter Held his line down from T3 and his smart early pace was impressive. Ran bend one off the rail then raced away, never giving Bonucci and inch. However, should get a good view of Jack from behind while qualifying.. 2 Seaglass Sandman Held line down from T1 then fortuitously led into back straight running mid to wide. Loitered into 3rd bend when race was it his mercy. Doesn’t look up to this. 3 Cloncunny Major Ran a surprisingly sound race against Brandy and Wildcat. Held line down form T3 then came inside behind leaders and ran on well. Very fluent on rails around 3rd and 4th bends and probably as good as he looked. Lightly raced and in good shape and can’t be discounted for me. 4 Drive On Tipp I wasn’t keen on this dog last year, with his tardy starts, and I thought he got a bit lucky in the first round this year. Just wants the rail and it won’t be gifted to him here. Not the likely winner for me unless he pings and he rarely does. 5 Salacres Vincent (m) Doesn’t look up to this and Jack should overwhelm him early. 6 Whoops Jack (w) Brute early pace so assured of an early lead and can dominate from start to finish from this plum draw. 6 3 1 |

In a nutshell, i'd have said Borna Gin and Whoops Jack the ones to beat!

how you thinking the ground will be fri early on? thurs and fri wasn't same as sat imo, maybe sat prepared better due to already having the am bags on?

hare driving is amateur at best, wouldn't be banking on too many dogs holding ultra consistent running lines here just yet, but gl

Cheers Czech. Good luck with yours. If he is the one I think I thought he ran a great race. Displayed a lot of pace up the back and plenty of brains around 3rd and 4th bends. He's learning quick!
No way soups - you're all getting it! ![]() |

Heat 3
1 Lenson Blinder Smartly away out of T2 but stepped out to lane three and hmp, 2nd down and middle round and into back straight. Clever between 3rd and 4th, out mid to wide and ran on to get up. 2 Black Farren f.a. and held line down fromT3, just failed to clear bend and bdly hmpd and again. Six to eight lengths adrift came wide round last bend and into home straight to avoid the three inside and into straight to win going away – leaders loitered. Can’t be faulted – game and clever. 3 Well Oiled Machine v.s.a., clear run on rail, ran on without getting into argument 4 Knockard Spring out-trapped by winner, held line down from T3, hmpd slightly 1st, clear run thereafter on rail behind winner – never a threat 5 Searchforahero (m) v.s.a., last into bend and unbalanced out wide, ran up rails to mid then came out wide avoiding trouble on inner. Ran on a bit late out wide. 6 Burgess Lord (w) last out and slow, came inside 1st avoiding trouble then ran out wide up back straight but never threatening winner Looks between 1 and 2 and it could be a good race – splitting them not easy. Knockard’s desire fails if he doesn’t get an easy lead. Welloiledmachine is as game and genuine as any and he and Burgess likely to come late and fight it out with Spring for third spot. Heat 4 1 Honour Rocket Well away on inner and stayed tight to rail throughout, brushing it at least twice. Not the best balanced and I can see Bruisers giving him a torrid time into and around the 1st bend. 2 Bruisers Bullet Gave us one of his 5.31 starts and wanted rail on run up from T3. Suffered usual crowding but his class saw him power wide up the back straight and come again, taking no prisoners round the 4th bend. 3 Bull Run Bandit Stepped in from T4 and early pace but was touched off at bend by winner on inside. Claimed rail at 3rd from challenger then ran on up the rail. Wants the rail. 4 Rising Brandy Has won from five different traps now and T2 didn’t bother him as Wildcat kept him in! Definitely wants out to the middle though and this draw seems perfect. 5 In The Loop (m) Looks a bit of a short runner to me. Wide and beat some moderate dogs for pace early which got her through. Can’t see her making any impact here. 6 Jaytee Jaguar (w) Very lightly raced wide runner who stays. Looks a bit green but wide draw helps again. Clearly looks between Bruisers and Brandy and another chance for Brandy to display his dazzling early pace. He looks sure to lead so should win. However swap vests last time and Wildcat would have beat him for me. The result here depends on how much trouble Bruisers has – if any – in clearing one and three early. If he has none I think he’ll beat Brandy, if he has to shake one or other off in the early stages, winning is less likely. Jaguar looks poised for a clear out wide and third spot. |

thanks Loyal probably the end of our derby ride sat night tho, cant see a logical read for him to qualify without major default....
I'll check your write ups for sat lol ;) |

Nice to know it ain't just me questioning the hare driving so, think it's been desperate myself
|
|
By:
Lenson v Farren hard to split honcho?
**** me I made Farren 1-2 poke |
|
By:
is the hare driver still the track photographer (self taught) ?
|
|
By:
You could be right fattie. Blinder steps out and will make things very physical on the run down. Farren is the class dog, in achievement terms though, and should win.
|
|
By:
Blinder is massively scopey still lost strides for fun last race and previous trial, bigger and fresher than farran who almost ko'd last run could have an effect this run?, id favor Blinder coming off better tbh even tho 2 running nut off right now, hope they price it up heavy on Farrans side

Bullet v Brandy interesting match up there also, i'd be playing bullet at a price. Brandy top class impressive in short career but watching calico brandy ruin him to 3rd and have a pig up trainers champ night makes bullet look appealing

Has anyone Priced the Heats up Yet ??

Not yet case. All frightened. The prices shoulda bin out today latest. FFS wot is it 16 races. They all seen wot we seen. Charlatans the lit o them. Most couldn,t lay an egg.

Just for you Soups! In memory of that "plotted" Calico Ranger thing at Shawfield.
![]() Heat 5 1 Calico Brandy Well away on rails and clear run, sailed inside leader between 3 and 4 and ran on. Imo should have won further but looked to ease and won a head. 2 Magical Bale Runs the track well. Smartly away from T1, easy rail, led 1st and ran right away up bk straight. This was an easy race – no rails challenge - but he looked so well balanced. 3 Black Eyed Hula Not brilliantly away but railed from T1. Repeatedly hmpd around 1st and 2nd. Good rails posi bk straight, hmp again 4th and chance lost. Faded a bit. Wants rails. 4 Droopys Chill T1, railed but couldn’t go the early pace. Pulled out cleverly 4th then ran on to get up in a photo but never a serious factor. 5 Bubbly Turbo (m) Very smart early and held line down from T5. Cut in and led bend running middle. Led all the way until just pipped run in. 6 Droopys Bonucci (w) Reasonable start but it was three or four strides of pace, from line to bend, that saw him round in 2nd spot out wide. Chased game leader up bk straight. Took wrong inside line at 4th and hmpd, recovered and ran on out wide. Took fall at hare drop so concerns for dog’s wellbeing, however if he goes here he must be ok. Brandy runs this track so well and is no easy touch as boxed. Bale has won from four different traps already, is five from seven here and has a yard better early than Brandy. I can’t see either being out of the frame. There’s no reason Bubbly can’t repeat his great run of last time and he could well dominate this race early then make the third spot. Bonucci is starting to look like a ping or nothing dog – and he hasn’t pinged here yet. He’s certainly not the brightest with dogs to pass and could just as easy run into bother in running again tonight. 2 1 5 Heat 6 1 Conors Blake Probably needs a middle draw, certainly ran middle and wide in heat. 2 Farloe Hutch s.a. in four dog heat. Nipped inside at 1st bend and railed thereafter. Clipped rail 4th bend and never threatened leader 3 Truth Matters Ran middle to wide from T1 when leading Drive OnTipp to third bend. Draw looks good. 4 Burgess Brandy Never on terms against Bale. Rls to middle and clipped rail at 2nd bend.. 5 Nadurra Ross (m) S.a. and looked clever at 1st when trying to avoid trouble. Ran on strongly out middle to wide. 6 Boilsports Duke (w) Well backed in heat and well enough away, just didn’t clear the bend – clipped by T1 inside and then hmp outside. Ran on well though out wide. None of these will win the Derby, or even get close, and I imagine each dog’s conns. have ambitions of winning this. So, being so wide open and with no real clues I have no idea what will win and will watch. Heat 7 Will watch. Nothing looks likely to upset the two hotpots. Bubbly’s early, and inside advantage v Bomber’s recent improvement – he’s starting to look a real good dog. Great race again in prospect and picking the winner not easy. Heat 8 1 Old Fort Comet Kev Boons bitch isn’t brilliant but she trapped well and showed early pace behind Whoops Jack. Tapped for speed mid race she then ran on well at the end. Rails. Could go on improving. 2 Honest Robber Ran against Comet last time - same draws. Stepped out from T2 then ran mid to wide. Shouldn’t really beat Comet based on that run. 3 Droopys Dresden Has some decent form. Hmpd early, got adrift but ran on late. Middle. 4 Danzey Exception Didn’t show anything like last year’s early zip in heat but once he found the rail he was happier. Needs a ping to do that here ( and maybe he will ) - not a good draw without one. 5 Sporting Dave (m) His 5.18 sectional beats this lot easily and even without it this dog is running very well. Held line down, led the bend then ran right away from them out wide. 6 Newinn Shadow (w) I thought he ran a good race to recover and run on strongly after poor start and clipping rail at 2nd bend. Got within two lengths of Rising Brandy after coming inside at 3rd/4th turn, so he is better than most of these – with a clear. Avoiding any bunching is the key. Should certainly get through. 5 6 rvrsd with 1 to get third courtesy of a clear rails run. Sporting and Shadow look superior to these and, well enough drawn, should prove it. Comet has rail and can make third. Good luck to all. |

why don't st@rsports get the heats priced up lead the charge, instead of who gives a fck about a gravy train pundits tipping challenge...

Quite right fattie. Tipping for the sake of it is for the birds - and the numbskulls on rpgtv.

why don't st@rsports get the heats priced up lead the charge ![]() coz their odds compiler is a fkin numpty czech!! who is waiting for a steer from the other numpties!! this firm has made a niche out of scanning the betfair screen and knocking 3-5% off for their gentlemen clientele problem with the derby races a few days out = no betfair to hold hands ![]() |

Woody I made other lot shorter too
If I’m reduced to playing even pokes in the derby early heats I my well give up the game |

Not so much tipping case as putting up my reads on how the dogs run and stimulating some opinion/discussion. I point out any I very much fancy though. "Where's you bin"?
SATURDAY Heat 9 1 Lenson Wilson Stepped out into lane four from T2 and led early. Ran in and out and should improve for this first look round. Leading here much more difficult. 2 Ballymac Reds Hmp start ( which looks likely again ), held line down from T2 then hmpd again 1st. Recovered to gain rail miles behind leader/winner. Confirmed railer here. Stamina? 3 Swithins Brae Smartly into running and rails. Led early, middle straights. Stayed nicely too. 4 The Other Ben (m) Stunned us all with his blazing exit. Held line down from T5 and led round, rls to mid into straight. Clear lead until wide 3rd and 4th losing ground and passed on inner, wide run in. 5 Calico Ranger (w) V.s.a. and eight lengths down into back straight, wide. Slight stumble out wide going round third, ran on well on outer to qualify 6 Night Bomber (w) Decent early but slowed a bit and caught at bend and pushed out very wide. Recovered really well to lead briefly out wide but lost ground again 3rd and 4th. Ran on out wide to qualify. Lenson in T1 probably has enough ability over the first hundred to cause Swithins ( in particular ) and Ballymac a lot of hassle, as he pulls out wide from the traps, which he will do. The point for me being that Swithins is no banker at a short price. Who wins I don’t know but Calico Ranger to qualify would be the bet for me, were there such a market, with at least two and probably three non-stayers in the race. He should be able to pick his route with less trouble than usual. I might even be tempted to back him if the market offered better than the crappy 5/4, 11/8 and 7/4 it usually does. Heat 10 1 Tyrur Harold Smartly away, rld tightly, gained easy lead and fully exploited it, running right away from field. He rails these bends well and from T1 this can win him the race. He looks strong and unlikely to yield rail to Wilbury. 2 Borna Account Ran a great race holding line down from T4 and mid to wide thereafter. Smashing pace into 3rd bend, passing on outer then railing round 4th to go up inner and lead late on. Impressed by strength of this dog who probably can still improve. 3 Droopys Wilbury Wanted across to rail from T4 and got there early to lead bend, thereafter he scraped the paint off the rail. For him it all depends on whether he can outpace 1 and 2 early. Unlikely for me. 4 Jelly Flood (m) For an inexperienced type he ran a race full of promise only to draw this steamer of a heat. Moderate early he held line down then cleverly dodged a bump at the 1st. Showed good pace up ( the inner ) approaching 3rd then changed track around outer 4th to run on middle. Is up against it here, with at least four hounds likely to be ahead of him into the back straight, but Ranger couldn’t pass him on the run in that’s for sure and any stayer has a chance around this 500. 5 Dorotas Vic (w) Not too well away and wanted in ( I thought ) but made bend in 4th spot. Thereafter used his class and stamina to run on out wide and claim the second place. 6 Innocent Times (w) Showed terrific early against Bale, cutting across the lanes to run middle the bend and lose a bit of impetus. Never going the pace thereafter but a run of some promise. 1 Innocent Times looks likely to dominate the race early and thereafter it will be a case of who catches him – Tyrur, Borna or both. Maybe he can go out and hold on but I doubt it. I think Tyrur Harold will get a great run round inside and stay better. And is worth a bet! Hope they all come off sound because it could be a messy race. |
|
By:
Nice write-ups Loyal but cant be having Harold at 11/8, think race much more competitive than the "walk-over" he had first round
|
|

Maybe woody - it does seem stingy. I wouldn't be backing anything else though.
