When I heard about the new greyhound betting shop service overkill from the start of the year, I thought to myself, "this is not going to last, I'll give it three months tops ..."
Well, here we are not at the end of the first month and the signs are not encouraging;
5 dog races and sometimes only 4 runners.
Sprints galore (yuk).
Loads of trial dogs being rushed onto the strength to bolster numbers.
Liquidity on some races less than 5 grand.
Graded favourites as short as 2/1 ON.
Dogs being beat 20+ lengths with a clear run.
We should have started a sweepstake to guess when it would return to "normal"

Only when half the tracks left just now are closed. And we get a new governing body. Thats the only way forward i can see.
Good. The sooner this disgusting "sport" is consigned to history, the better. Won't happen in my lifetime but will happen as the treatment of greyhounds is vile on the main. For scum and p1keys and chavs and general lowlife.

Sorry if this is a naive question, but what about years ago when there was a lot more dog tracks - I think at least 24 in London alone - so loads of dogs racing, but what about the welfare issue compared to then and now (?) Is the treatment of greyhounds any different, and only a few lucky ones get re-homed. Has anything really changed at all ?

Improved beyond imagination.
Very rough figs about 9-10k need rehoming in the UK every year.
RGT home about 4500-5k, other dog charities 1k, owners/relatives etc must take about 1k+, trainers/breeders prob keep upwards of 1k, there will prob be 1k in the system waiting for home.
There will be a small but still unnacceptable number pts at the end of their racing days BUT for a group
of working animals I would imagine their working lives and then pet lives are the envy of every other orking animal on the planet.
