Agreed.  Three, and that proves how rare they are.  Monalee Champion, the greatest stud dog of my lifetime ( arguably ) was an above average Open Racer but no Derby winner.  Glin Bridge much the same and a fantastic stud.  Droopys Vieri - fantastic stud, won a Puppy version and finalled in the Irish and Scottish.  The "Hawk" is the greatest example of a breeding programme ( which took thirty years ) which produced the Derby winner and then a supreme stud.  It is very rare.

Only saying breeders might prefer say Jaytee Jet to Hiya Butt, perhaps?

Especially now as emphasis seems to be on stamina rather than speed in English and Irish Derbies, over 500 and 503 metres?

Agree with the 3 dogs mentioned .The one that got away was Some Picture.He died about a year into his stud career but his strike rate of open winners to litters whelped was phenomenal,the highest of any dog i have ever seen.Whether he could have sustained it is unknown.

Its only my opinion, even tho jaytee jet won the derby and has been a great dog for connections. Breeders want pace, think hiya butt will throw good. I bet jaytee jet when e won derby. Rather av pups by hiya butt.

Reckon Jaytee Jet could sire some pacey dogs, Leger 'hounds too
