Towcester Derby Poll

no

no

Surely it's the dogs who should be asked

no

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Need to address where the traps are
Cos there defo making them all step right
Than left
I'd be in beer garden about now
Or at corner pin

Problems need ironing out
How much would it cost dig it up start again ?

I cant see them digging it up and starting again

they are restricted with the bend radius requirements meaning that a track with straights of decent length would have a standard trip nearer 550-600

No the track is a joke

Total disaster

Go hand in hand with the clueless numpties on rptv

my vote is no but its been more of a level playing field than I expected

No, for the reasons already given on numerous threads.

6 no
0 yes

dont be afraid to speak your mind yes men

There must be a yes man somewhere ??

Just had 8 yeses from RPTV experts

NO

Good on you Kevin Boon telling Clarkey on live tv that he talks a load of choite!.  And how he does!
BOOM from the BOON!

agree there clark thinks he knows everything

LOL ravage to No voters in Trouble

Why does that bloke on RPGTV keep saying "look" ?
I don't know his name but he cannot complete a sentence without saying "look"

everybody has ways of saying things sparrow, depending on where you are from, hes the best to listen to on that show

I dare say he might be the best but it's irritating because he gives the impression that you have to accept everything he says. A bit like those who keep saying "listen".
By the way I was brought up in the East End of London and now live in Yorkshire

look sparrow listen give him a break lol

Now listen Towcester is the future and look it ain't all railers innit. Know what I mean.

Yes, good long run to first bend, much less trouble than bend 1 at Wimbledon, less trouble at 3rd bend than Wimbledon.
Dogs able to maintain their pace throughout the race.
Does it suit front runners yes, where doesnt??

Yes, backatrier. Your assertion about front runners is simply not good enough. You can't just dismiss the subject by saying "front runners yes, where doesnt??" when it is apparent that a great double winner of the Derby Westmead Hawk could not have won at Towcester.

YES,

You guys obviously forget how many races used to have dogs being knocked over at Wimbledon, some races half the field would be bowled over at the first bend.

How many dogs have been knocked over so far in this year's derby?

This is Towcester's first year, I am sure they will tweak the track and and trap positions until they get it spot on.

I remember the first derby at Wimbledon well, a local grader who didn't even lead in an S2 race (660m)the weak before the derby started went on to win (Pagan Swallow).

I guarantee a grader won't be winning this year.

Our sport has been in decline for many years now, for me Towcester is the bright light of the future with the management of the track trying their absolute hardest to improve the image of our sport.

Let's give them a chance and hold back on the constant knocking of people who are actually trying to improve our sport.

LA

well said, but cant agree and why would they do any tweak the track when they dont see anything wrong with the place

must be something wrong you know look listen no what I mean everyone has opinions not all agree democracy you know can I get no you fecking cant I'm serving

ship it I left out no worries oi oi

But we cant be sure of that?
Calico Ranger last to first on Friday, it can be done just not very likely.
Not the greatest fan of the place but giving it a chance.

For a dog to come so far off the pace as Westmead Hawk did would mean it would have to be a messy race. No way could it happen in a clean run race there. We do need Towcester to succeed but this can only happen with a major upheaval to the present track. It's no use pretending it's ok now because we know full well it isn't.

I'm not disagreeing but remember the Hawk was the Chuck Norris of the greyhound world. He could do things others couldn't dream of..

Hawk on them Derby wins turned pretty handy to me

And lots of space too

Look where the Hawk came from in that Semi-Final. He would always be at least 4th out of that 2nd bend.

Some utter dross on this thread - how the mind plays games after so many years.

Hawk was about 6L behind at the 2nd bend in the semi, from there he got a trouble free run and just got up.

In the final he got a clean run to the 2nd bend when 2.5L behind the same dog as in semi, he then lacked a touch for 80m and got 5L behind, from there he got a clear run and got up a shade cosy.

He had brilliant track craft and would have **** up at Towcester granted similar runs over 500M.

Ps. Yes I am happy with the track at Towcester. Final night will show the blueprint for a possible bright future for the top level of the sport.

Can the track be improved? God yes.

Ps. Hawk was 3L behind at the 2nd bend in his first final.

So you are happy with the track "but God yes" it can be improved. And you think others talk utter dross.

Yes

When you talk about how far Hawk was behind and then managed to win it's as if you consider 6 lengths behind at Towcester is just the same as at Wimbledon.

I would fancy a staying dog to pick up a front runner when 6L behind off the 2nd at Towcester (500m) than Wimbledon (480m) yes.

Depends where it swings out from last bend

One of my old fav from Romford

Do well here HEAD ITON TOM

he have them stacked up like London buses
Rd that 4th turn at towcester

Yes
Fairest track in country now, that's why they lost BAGS contract.
Tyrur Shay, the fastest finisher, would have been knocked over by now at Wimbledon.

Hove would have been second choice for derby but you cannot let a bookmaker owned track anywhere near the derby.

I'd fancy a finisher rd wimbo than towcester all day long
No **** can pass on inside imo

Why I mention tom
He'd boss it at towcester!

Tell me how many dogs have won 6L behind off the 2nd bend in this competition so far?  Better still how many have won turning in 4th place off the 2nd bend?

wots the score ?

NO

Bends too long,Straights too short, S#itty old 2nd hand traps from Coventry.

Final will be won by Faw Aled imo.

no 10
yes 5
as far as i can make out, closer than you would think

I vote YES. I have been pleasantly surprised with the track, not to say it could not be improved.Saw my first Derby in the early sixties, and remember some of the "demolition derbies" at the Don, this all seems so much smoother.

didn't Calico Ranger come from last
to win in the last round?

Yes Calico Ranger did and that was it.

Towcester itself yes, think they're really trying.
The track undecided tbh,but they should be given
a chance,though to be fair,Wimbledon had it's moments.

I agree that they are trying but the track itself is just not good enough.

The one thing that shines out from this track is the visible investment and the lack of decayed, empty and neglected terraces along the back straight. Some of these old tracks still operating look like a scene from the film Apocalypse Now.

Yes

No,the race track is hopeless while everything else is outstanding. You cant polish a turd.

hector you cant call the track a turd.....its solid investment in the sport....those coonts in the GRA......they are walking bags of the most filthy odious excrement you could find and a million miles from what is happening at towcester.....even though I agree something is amiss and if someone experienced at towcester reviewed all the derby races following the competition they could probably find out what that was and try and overcome it.....I would still at this point say YES for someone trying against the current tide.....also...personally I have won on every night bar one since playing the derby heats so its a bit of an oxymoron for me to say what I am saying....

Winja for me punting has nothing to do with it.I referred to the race track as a turd because it is the most unfair track i have ever seen by miles .It has  fundamental design issues which imo  are making  a mockery of the derby as a test.Everything else there appears top notch.
Fwiw im not pocket talking ,my sole bet has been 66/1 ew Razldazl Tierna fastest sect of first round ,which was posted on here in advance.

I don't remember too many coming from last to first at Wimbledon, other than the Hawk.  What I do know is that up until the day White City closed many of the top trainers wouldn't risk their best dogs at Wimbledon and the finest example of that was Ballyregan Bob.  Thirty years down the line and it was a "supertrack"!  I don't think so.

it is THE TOWCESTER DERBY  there is not much else to Say  ,the Race is specific to that track. Lets see who wins it ,Be interesting if JAYTEE were to win it

First visit to Towcester last Saturday......the facilities are the best that dog racing has ever had....restaurant superb, full every Saturday night apparently (regardless of the Derby) and the staff all trying for their lives and excellent. Deserves to do well and succeed.
The track splits opinions, I do think the races slow down and the lead does not change hands at all on the bends...and the bends/cambering do seem too long in relation to the straights. Saying all that, it is not owned by a big firm and is trying to get dog racing to be
sustainable into the 21st century...and I think all dog people should get behind it...it really is, as Ben Keith has said, "dog racings last chance"

Pmsfl at the The boys in studio reading tomorrows races ,I will be Highy suprised if they have 4 races anywhere Near right

No

no  12
yes  7

I'll tell you if I win tonight or not!

Thumbs up. Facilities great. Big queue at the bar but loads of bat staff brought waiting time right down. Little villages here and there so not as isolated as some say. There was even a beer festival in a quaint local pub, busy. Re-the track. If a dog's good enough on the night, it can win. They say early-bird gaff but the antepost Derby favourite does it the hard way. Just a shame I wont be able to go for the final

So that's 12 to 8 against, doubt that Wimbledon would have scored anything like as well. Any more yes votes?

i remember white city think towcester  not got derby after 3 years

Greyhound Racing is meant to be an Exciting Spectacle , Tow racing is Simular to watching Paint dry ,the Dogs look Paceless

Its a Bore Festival

Can Only Hope toon or Cp come up with some Money or Even monmore with money Spent on it .Tow should be Given another Year to try Ironing out The track Problems if that is Not done the Race needs to be Shifted .The position of the Traps is Bordering on Comical

Even sheffields 362m three bend race traps were not as silly as towcestors 500 m ones

The other thing I never knew until after sky show

Was how close the boxes are in the 500 poor mrs Cahill had no chance of putting any dogs in with another handler close by

Have to agree with this.  I can't bring myself to pretend that it's the Derby and everything is ok really.

agree the bore derby

Surprise surprise

Dave only reading out the positive rose tinted e mails

Must be on a free 10 course derby meal on final night

i bet lord hesketh done over a million on towcester what chance of making a profit ZERO when he passes on im sure his family will pull the plug

Someone Mailed in that it was SPINETINGLING

There seems to be no consistency at the traps as at other tracks past and present .. Ragged starts most races .. leaves it hard to get a picture of how the races will be run .. for me genuine finishers gonna struggle there.. Nice amenities .. but not for me .. something lacking there .. track needs to be re-designed.. Nice try though

You never know what will happen from one race to the next, and dogs just dont look impressive, fair play for them for having a go. lets hope they have a good look at major improvements

yeah that is the only thing in there favour

"fair play for having a go"

if that is the future of greyhound racing then i wont be telling my grandchildren about the great nights i had at the don. i wouldnt want them going to dine on prosecco and prawn salad watching geysers who clean out dog sh1t at 6 a m , live in squalour , led up dogs and get paid a pittance , have the sun in their eyes all night, watch from over 100 yards away and have to get a taxi home from the middle of nowhere.

yeah fair play for them for having a go

more like an old geyser who ain't got anything else to spend his money on

According to Phil Donaldson, writing in today's RP, "even the harshest of cynics might agree that the competition has been a success as it settles into it's new home at Towcester".

If I vote again, will it count?

End of the day the welfare of dogs
Has been second to none there
That's most important part ,
Value for money there I wouldn't know till
I go for final but seems everyone there had
Pretty good time .
Track its self I'm still coming to terms with
I can see some problems

Thing is if we dumped Shelbourne
Slap bang there , people moan !
Say its run up too short !

Ain't white city ain't wimbo
Take it for what it is
Unless coral comes in for the Derby
It won't be at hove , same goes for Monmore
With lads

Time to take it square on the chin
Suck it up I'm sorry to say
It's the best going to be till it ends
