from the greyhound star...

Hall Green Stadium looks set for closure following the decision of BAGS to remove the tracks two weekly fixtures and transfer them to sister track Perry Barr writes Floyd Amphlett. A statement released today reads:
Following consultation with the GRA, BAGS today announced that fixtures from Hall Green will transfer to Perry Barr starting next month (June). Hall Green’s Monday morning BAGS fixture will move over to sister track Perry Barr, commencing Monday June 5th, and the Wednesday morning fixture will be taken up by Perry Barr from Wednesday June 21st.
The loss of both BAGS fixtures is believed to be connected with a series of alleged gambles at the stadium combined with an ongoing doping inquiry concerning trainer Richard Whelan – who has since relinquished his licence. Furthermore, BAGS were almost certainly nervous as to the long term integrity of the York Road track given its uncertain future. Planning permission has already been granted for housing development and it appears that leaseholder GRA Ltd has been unable to secure an extension to its short term lease. The racing strength has certainly weakened as a result of the uncertainty.
The Star understands that the GRA CEO Clive Feltham had asked to hold onto at least one of the BAGS fixtures until later in the year. That was rejected and the closure now seems imminent. It seems highly unlikely that the company will want a repeat of the ‘slow expensive death’ of Wimbledon, though there seems no reason that the bulk of the dwindling kennel strength cannot transfer across the city via a series of inter-track races to allow rapid qualification.
Feltham said: “I am not able to comment on the future of the stadium until we have held meetings with the stadium staff and trainers.”

good old feltham overseen another track closed fkin despicable count

Greyhound racing is coming to a end with bookmaker owned tracks only showing their tracks thats why arena bought newcastle and sunderland its sad but in 10years time you will count tracks on one hand

Lots of things coming to an end (which I think the smoking ban blamed for this). Cheaper to go Bargain Booze and drink at home. No need for pubs with social media. Some used to go to meet someone but "Plenty of Fish" for that now. Whilst numbers in force, things will continue with horse racing faring better than dogs. Football has "taken off" but still think there's room for greyhounds with the right management and promotional skills

I didnt think I'd ever say this about a track closing but Hall Green has been a festering boil on the 4rse of this great sport for a long time.

If we lose the parasites from the gaff that have sucked the place dry, from management down, then i think the sport as a whole emerges stronger for its closure...not nice i know cos as usual a lot of thoroughly decent people will lose their livelihoods/social networks etc etc through no fault of their own and the parasites wont lose a moments sleep over that, what a fkin world we live in Sad

Yet more sad news for our great sport!

Tinternet a main reason for the decline in our sport. Who wants to drag themselves out, especially in winter, for large over-rounds when you can watch at home and bet on exchanges?

I still go racing when I can, but I'm a dying breed

A stroke known as a sp fiddle that was 11 years ago. I've served my ban, made my apologies, moved on. Learnt to be more respectful and thoughtful now. I was a young novice back then. We all make mistakes. Yes mine has left a little mark in a lot of memories. I have not shut Greyhound Tracks down like Mr Feltham though!
