As above,
Had a share (very briefly) in an armchair dog, and got nothing out of it. Was no enjoyment watching on TV alone. As such, i do tend to go to shawfield a couple of times a month, and notice on gbgb dogs for sale could pick up a dog for £500 or so. Would something of that standard recieve a handicap mark at shawfield, and more so be competitive? Also, what kind of training fees are you looking at, say the dog runs twice a month for £30, does that cover fees? Any help would be greatly appreciated in buying, and or who to train the dog.

500 is going to get you a grader, depends what you want age, dog/bitch etc

and 60 pound a month might cover 25% of your bill

hi derekk some info and my experiences may help you. A monkey would get you a middle of the road grader, but be very careful when purchasing a dog,as lame or non genuine dogs are common place. I would advise you to either approach a trainer or buy a dog with recent form (igb website shows videos). For Shawfield, get a dog that stays as it is a very tough track to run,and 500 yards-480 metres is the least they should get. Most trainers are approachable tho some like gamblers and some dont so if your looking to bet heavily be aware. Prize money is poor maybe forty pound a winner and seventeen pound a run (approx) so four runs a month with one win should net you 90 quid. Trainers fees are probably double that tho my trainer did a deal with me, he kept all prize money and i only paid extras such as vets fees etc so if you have to pay monthly get a partner to keep costs down. Some pluses and minuses for you to ponder.

1) The excitement of your dog winning is fantastic but if your are unlucky bad injuries can sour you. Go in to ownership with an open mind and hope for the best but expect the worst.
2) Forget about having a big gamble on your pride and joy as track bookies are to be avoided (dog and owner badly dealt with) and off course bookies dont want to know if you bet a winner.
3) Free entry to track is included with ownership always helps and depending on your circumstances getting involved with kennel as help may be a bonus.

good luck with your venture and i cannot stress enough pick your trainer carefully, be patient and start low and aim big then its damage limitation for your hard earned.

get a dog at a track that runs at a BAGS meeting so you can get a half decent bet on
