Super card with highlight the re-match between Droopys Buick and Bubbly Bluebird. The pair met in the Eclipse final where Buick won and Bluebird finished third after not getting the rub of the green. Got 20/1 Bluebird and 40/1 Buick for the Derby already and hope both run big races

7.11 Wouldn't be surprised if Slippery Amigo gives Calco Flyer a race, especially over the 500m trip

7.26 Fond of sprinter Jumeirah Maximus and I've currently caught him on a roll. Faces Ela Ela Genie again, Toolmaker Rambo and Droopys Trapeze

7.43 Think Dorotas Wildcat might reverse the form with his recent conqueror the fast Madabout Eoghan

7.59 Rubys Rascal will appreciate the drop back in distance

8.16 Droopys Five may get the better of Brinkleys King with Droopys Who struggled to fulfil potential

8.33 In-form Empress Katie a token pick

8.51 Keen on Huarache Madison

9.08 The Big One!

Away but hoping to get a signal and tune in to watch

Good luck!

You need to stay, you get rewards if you lead and you can win from any box.
Report Ravage Again March 28, 2017 9:25 PM BST
First time seen the 500 m traps with a camera close looking from behind

Jeez to stretch the trip out to 500 m had to move the traps so far back on the bend

The trap 6 box is practically touching the hare rail it's so wide on the track

But even then looking down from behind the boxes

In a lot of races the trap one dog is moving outwards at the start and not inwards to the rails

If your having a bet in a 500 m race you just need to try and pick the dog that leads round the first bend

Afraid it's a shambles of a test of a greyhound compared with Wimbledons 480 m trip

At wimbledon 80% of railers moved off from boxes (they didnt do it at other tracks) but everyone
thought the track was Gods gift to greyhound racing.

At Towcester a big % of railers move off to a certain degree at the 1st bend and most middle/wides
are edging in. This causes plenty of trouble which gives the strong runners a big chance.

Its just callede change guys.

sittingbourne the trip with the long run to bend is Love

swindon the other night 509 ideally Love

actually give people a chance with proper boxes, sited properly, long run up, long straights

towcester has nothing to offer me as a greyhound enthusiast I will leave it at that as its sad being negative about it but I'm sorry that's the way the track is Sad
Report Captain carnage March 28, 2017 9:33 PM BST
Trap 1 box from the 500m boxes is actually fairly tight to the rail if you drew a striaght line - its just thats its on a shoot.

If at hove the straights were shorter the boxes would be in the same place as at towcester for 500/515.
Report Ravage Again March 28, 2017 9:34 PM BST
Yes captain that was the main negative when the track swapped over to the other side

The traps were to close to the rails

You're right with the one box

I guess as comparing it with the old 480 m start and trip
Report wondersobright March 28, 2017 9:36 PM BST
the "new" 1st bend at the don moved outwards that was the problem there
the "old" 1st bend there was never a problem
Report Captain carnage March 28, 2017 9:37 PM BST
I loved wimbledon from a punting and viewing point of view and think the English derby should distinguish itself from Irlland by being over 480m.

However, I have no doubt the towcester 500m will reward dogs that trap from any box, reward dogs that show early from any trap, reward dogs that stay 500m strongly and reward dogs with good trackcraft. After that the final and the trip along the way will be 40% luck like every dog race.

They are investing huge numbers in the game, they are attracting the best trainers, attracting new owners, giving
greyhound people a place they can take friends and family without having to apologise on the way in, trying to move away from a BAGS monopoly/stanglehold on the games finances. Just because the track is a bit different all that is worth ignoring.

But who is going to say this in public on TV no one

If that trainer did then I am sure dogs from that kennel would unfortunately not be picked for many opens when entered

I do admit it would be harder for comps do not pick the dog ifs it's a really good dog

But no trainer is going to crictise publicly

At every greyhound track that has ever existed the leaders have an advantage and the further back you are the bigger the disadvantage. Its just in the nature of what greyhound racing is.For me the poor design of Towcester accentuates this like no track i have ever seen before.Imo the derby can be won out of any trap if the dog traps in front. As for the derby competition as a whole i think the winners in each round will mostly be trappers/leaders and the qualifying places will be a totally random lottery.

I have not moaned about the track (well yet anyway) as have seen hardly any racing there but surely you've hit the nail on the head with the problem (if on exists) people have, they've based the track on a track for 8 dog racing. Yes they want to run 8 dog meetings at Towcester for the Asian market (or something along them lines) so have their reasons for doing so.

As for Towcester in general they've been a breath of fresh air, their promotion of the Derby has been different class to what it was, they show races (and trials!!) which is absolutely brilliant and it's free, they're going out of their way to cater for the crowds Derby final night (buses from Northampton, Milton Keynes), looks like they're booking entertainment so the crowd can stay late at the track etc........................

I cannot fault them, some don't like the track design and the way races are run. Last night was pretty much the first time I sat down and watched a card around there, have previously watched trials and I still have my doubts whether I want to get financially involved in races to date but we have got to give the place a chance and even if I decide I don't want to punt there I am looking forward to visiting July 1st.

I dont know anyone who thinks the track is as good as it could have been. Idiocy to have built such short straights. Also, if you are a wide-wide runner your a million in the derby but so what it shows a lack of intelligence. The brighter wide runners who cut closer to the bends and dont move off too far on straights will still have every chance.

However, some of the comments that dont appear tongue-in-cheek like `this will be the end of Greyhound racing', `this isnt greyhound racing', `I wont watch the derby' is all just very silly.
