Think the Dorando is a blinding race quality Wise Perhaps the best 6 dog line up I have ever seen for a marathon Plain
Report sparrow June 23, 2015 10:05 AM BST
Have to agree regarding the Dorando, but I look forward to all marathon races.
Report woodmanchester June 23, 2015 10:33 AM BST
I'm the opposite Sparrow. Marathons not my favourite cup of tea, same as hurdles. Dont it's totally natural to put a greyhound over extreme distances, they're more for speed, imo. But, yes, very good Dorando field this year
Report sparrow June 23, 2015 3:01 PM BST
Agree regarding hurdle racing. When I first went greyhound racing there was no such thing as 2 bend races except for a once a year competition at Southend called the Silver Salver. This was at a time when people attended in their thousands.
Report woodmanchester June 23, 2015 3:04 PM BST
You seem even more experienced than me Sparrow, but i remember the Silver Salver, think when it was run at Canterbury?
Report sparrow June 23, 2015 3:37 PM BST
Only recall it at Southend, but after that I wouldn't have a clue as I had no interest in it at all.
Report sparrow June 23, 2015 3:42 PM BST
Southend Stadium was a former greyhound racing track in Grainger Road, Southend, Essex.[1] It was also the home ground of Southend United between 1934 and 1955.

The stadium opened for racing in September 1931 which provided Southend with a permanent track following an unsuccessful attempt by promoters in 1927 on the Kursaal, Southend on Sea. In 1948 Rayleigh in Southend provided the sport with a second Southend track but it was overshadowed by its bigger neighbour. Southend was the first greyhound track to film in colour television pictures and hosted a major competition called the Thames Silver Salver and remained a popular track until its closure on Boxing Day 1985. The site is now a retail park.

fats how you know you got two plays if there arent any prices out Shocked

4 or 5 i'm interested in one or two i really fancy strong but just have to see what prices are knocking about
Report woodmanchester June 23, 2015 7:30 PM BST
Sure Fatty's projected prices will be pretty close to Billies actual ones. Besides, personally, if i really like and fancy a dog to win, wouldn't necessarily let half a point or so less put me off, even a full point come to that. Makes less of a difference at smaller stakes
Report woodmanchester June 23, 2015 7:59 PM BST
Well, anyway lost on heat betting so you'll be pleased to hear not quite as rosy in the garden as you may think. Having said that, even if i gain nothing antepost with Bish, Paper, Davy winning, I've had a great deal of interest for my investment throughout. If i only end up breaking even outright, next stop Shelbourne! LaughWink

I am surprised they have not put up prices for the Dorando and Invitation yet, they usually go up first. No firm will go up before Billies anyway i would imagine, like an unwritten rule

7/2 Skate

Irish

For many years the last race on the card was a maxi-marathon - 10 bends - about 1100 yards.

I remember a dog of Nicky Chambers winning on one of Rapid Ranger's nights. Can't recall the dog's name but I think it was one short word.

Help me out someone!

Didn't Travel Now also win it once?

Thanks for that - Buzzer - my heads been doing that all weekend trying to remember the name. 2001 - it seems longer than 14 years.

I seem to remember Nicky Chambers and her husband Pat were going places in those days. I think he owned / part owned Coldseal Windows and put a few quid into Nottingham sponsorship. They also had a good hoss with Martin Pipe if my memory serves me well. Didn't they emigrate to Australia?

lee

I'd have been part of that gamble for sure, although I'd have been too pi$$ed to put my own money on, that late in the evening. We always went over to the far side in those days, when you had a choice and it was the best place to watch from. Happy days.
