A very average looking line for the second most prestigious comp in the calendar behind the Derby, looks very front end for the winner. Opinions lads?

woodmanchester  • March 22, 2014 9:52 PM GMT  Got another f/c up race after with Sugar Ray always leading Skywalker Mandy in fastest of night so far 29.64. Sugar Ray was always going to clock a time with that good start but Mandy made headway on him and deserves praise. Incidentally, forecast paid over 5/1

Let me try and educate you Woody .... that's called blatent aftertiming never did you put up that forecast ! ..... (AGAIN)  Laugh

Have to wonder what time Sugar Ray would have done the other night had he not clearly blew up, went up as well as i have ever seen him. Get the feeling Vanrooney is a better dog away from Shelbourne, you'd think Shelbourne would suit him perfectly but his runs have suggested otherwise in my opinion and he ran Harolds Cross and Waterford a lot better. Good to see Innameovhoff win, was delighted they seeded him (m) as i've been convinced he does not want to be on the inside. Down to 3 (w)s now so would be nice to see Skywalker Mandy and Hillcroft Champ go for my Skywalker Farloe bets. Think Mandy will be doing well to turn as handy as she did Saturday night this week while Champ has a brilliant draw if good enough to take advantage.

It would suit me having backed Vanrooney the other night to think along those lines (and believe i placed a good bet) but i think the fact he walked from boxes is papering over the crack in a lot of peoples eyes. Let's face it, it was not a good race and even allowing for how he trapped i was so very unimpressed.

Cabra Buck hit the lids but Riptide Movement didn't come away before showing brilliant early to get up Bucks inside on the corner and they came together. It wasn't the only time they came together and Riptide Movement is a non stayer in my opinion and Cabra Buck a suspect stayer. Then you had Killglen Chief, Burgess Four and Stone Boy King who all ran away from Vanrooney down the back, thought Vanrooney was a huge disappointment 2 to 3. Those 3 dogs i mentioned are only decent A0 dogs around Shelbourne. Then up the straight there was more crowding and holding each other up by the dogs in front and while Vanrooney did finish well i think the fact the others where falling over each other half the race helped get him so close.

He has now had 2 550s around Shelbourne and while it is a small pool to gauge from i have not been impressed with what he has shown to the corner or from 2 to 3, even in his trials he has absolutely walked to the sprint boxes and while clocking good afterwards he can not give these AA0 dogs leads like that.

suppose somebody better put some tips up since woody ain't around Silly

heat 1 - Tyrur Sugar Ray @ 11/10 (Absolutely amazed they are holding this price, he is an odds on shot. got a brilliant draw on the rail with Vanrooney [how is he as short as 11/4??] beside him and should be able to beat Clipper Carlton to the corner as well. He will probably be led up by Cabra Buck who will be a nuisance for Innameovhoff on his outside run up but he should turn handy and from there they won't be able to hold him. Skywalker Mandy ran him close last week but i don't see her turning as close here as see Buck and Hoff leading her and anyway Sugar Ray should come on bundles for the run.)

heat 2 - Skywalker Legend @ 11/4 (nap) (I thought this was an absolutely monster rick. Isabels Boy and Riptide Movement will battle for the lead run up but both struggle to get home over 550y in my opinion, that should ensure Skywalker Legend gets a clear run up and once he holds Stone Boy King from 5 who wants rails he can turn in a decent pitch, once doing so he will be too strong for these coming home. Honestly could not believe the price, i think the 2/1 is still massive.)

heat 3 - No bet (I think Skywalker Farloe takes all the beating but i do not want to back him @ 4/6. Atitboy and Blenhiem Tricks will be fighting for the early lead but again as in the other race they are not the strongest stayers and being the sole (w) Skywalker Farloe should get a good run up and the only slight worry i would have was where Tyrur Arthur went on the corner last week but once avoiding him he should overpower them from the 3rd. Think Ardfert Thunder would have to lead up Atitboy here to win, Tyrur Arthur ran on well last week and can go up quicker.)

heat 4 - Ballyana Foxtrot @ 8/1 (nb) (Thought the price was massive, still think the 6/1 is huge. I actually thought he ran a lot better last week and was an unlucky loser, can't believe Star Ace is shorter than him on that running when Ballyana Foxtrot has the better of the draw. Greenwell Hulk turned handy last week but think he will struggle too this week, Burgess Rumble missed it last week but goes up real well as does Priceless Bolt, Glenanore Dancer can hit the lids running as can Star Ace, i think Hulk could be turning near the back tonight. Ballyana Foxtrot has a lovely draw against 5 railers, he can come away a lot better than he did last week and if doing so he is a massive player.)

RIPTIDE’S FASTEST RUN IN DANDELION EASTER CUP

30/03/2014
The Dandelion Bar & Nightclub Easter Cup can always be relied upon to provide the thrills and the second round action at Shelbourne on Saturday didn’t disappoint in that respect.

You would have got reasonable odds against Riptide Movement being the fastest of the session but that is just what Neilus O’Connell’s noted early pacer achieved.

SUGAR RAY DOES IT AGAIN

Favourite punters got the heats off to the right start when the odds-on Tyrur Sugar Ray gave another powerful performance as he won handily in 29.88.

Cabra Buck got off to his anticipated fast start but Sugar Ray was again slickly into stride and he was a good second to the bend with Skywalker Mandy in third.

PJ Fahy’s Tyrur Sugar Ray (Top Honcho/ Maireads Fantasy) closed down the back while Skywalker Mandy also closed right up on the front pair. But the race was well decided on the third bend where Tyrur got through on the inside and Skywalker found her gap closed and had to check. Tyrur, stuck to the inside rail as usual, thundered up the straight to win by four and a half lengths from Cabra Buck in 29.88 with Skywalker Mandy running another huge race just a short head back in third.

RIPTIDE BURNS THEM OFF

Some of the talk before the race concerned the race to the bend between Isabels Boy and Riptide Movement but the latter settled that pretty decisively as he scorched out of traps and hit the bend a few lengths in front of Isabels Boy with Hillcroft Champ third and the favourite Skywalker Legend last of the five runners (Homeless Boy was an absentee).

By halfway Riptide Movement (Hometown Boy/ Dundooan Diva) was surely six lengths clear and obviously on his way to victory. Hillcroft Champ went second past Isabels Boy which appeared to check into the third bend. Hillcroft ran on strongly but the Gin N Tonic Syndicate owned Riptide Movement won by two and a half lengths from Hillcroft Champ in 29.73 with Skywalker Legend two lengths back in third.

ARDFERT THUNDERS TO VICTORY

Skywalker Farloe was all the rage for the third heat but it was his kennel companion Ardfert Thunder (Droopys Vieri/ Soviet Cheyenne) which raced to victory in 29.87.

From traps it was Atitboy which broke best and moved wide immediately, forcing Ardfert Thunder out also. The order to the bend was Atitboy from Ardfert Thunder and Blenhiem Tricks and the latter bumped Skywalker Farloe which was forced wide and lost valuable ground.

The Frances O’Donnell trained Ardfert Thunder went past Atitboy on the second bend and was chased down the back by Atitboy and Blenhiem Tricks with Tyrur Arthur now beginning to make progress. Tyrur went second at the final bend and came home fast but the Noel and Adrian Clifford owned Ardfert Thunder kept on to win by a length and a half in 29.87 with Skywalker Farloe getting up in the last strides to take third some two and a half lengths back.

BURGESS RUMBLE TOUGHS IT OUT

A tough night for the punters continued with Greenwell Hulk failing to qualify from the final heat where a poor start and a first bend mistake saw him lose whatever chance he had of making in through to the semi-finals.

Instead we had a terrific buckle to the bend between Burgess Rumble, Star Ace and Ballyana Foxtrot and they hit the bend virtually in a line.

The inevitable happened with the inside dog Burgess Rumble (Ace Hi Rumble/ Rising / Angel) toughing it out and he emerged a few lengths in front from Ballyana Foxtrot and Star Ace. Ballyana Ran a big race in second but the Sheila Spillane and JJ Fennelly owned Burgess Rumble kept on strongly to win by a length and a half from Ballyana Foxtrot in 30.00 with Glenanore Dancer some five lengths third.

Despite only finishing third in his second round heat on Saturday, Frances O’Donnell’s Skywalker Farloe remains the 9-4 favourite to win the Dandelion Bar and Nightclub Easter Cup which reaches the semi-final stage on Saturday.

Skywalker Farloe is a best price 9-4 with Tyrur Sugar Ray his nearest rival on 4-1 and it is then 8-1 Cabra Buck and Riptide Movement. The best prices available on the others are 12 Burgess Rumble, Skywalker Mandy, Tyrur Arthur, 14 Ardfert Thunder, 20 Glenanore Dancer, 33 Ballyana Foxtrot, Skywalker Legend, 40 Hillcroft Champ.

Glenanore Dancer is out of the semi final, bit miffed as i would much rather he ran Plain

The way the race was set up you had to imagine Sugar Ray was gonna struggle for a run with Riptide Movement and Gelnanore Dancer as blockers on the inside and then the possibility of Ardfert Thunder moving on top of him run up.

Now while he still has the possibility of Ardfert Thunder being a nuisance he must have a much better chance of getting to the rails and getting a clear, he should be leading up Skywalker Legend and Riptide Movement should be gone from 1 so can see him getting to the rails.

Obviously the draw is no different for Skywalker Farloe (he still has a great draw) but the possibility of carnage on the inside is massively reduced.

Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y April 3, 2014 11:48 PM BST
no i am on him @ 7s and 6s - i am not as confident as i was pre comp and think the 7/4 is an awful price and he could possibly be that or even bigger in my opinion in the final - is the possibility of more then 1 (w) in there and some (m)s so what i was hoping for come final ain't gonna happen and there is the possibility of Sugar Ray getting there and getting plotted up

i am a bit worried about how he seems to be cutting in on the bends and making moves up the inside around Shelbourne that i didn't really expect, if ya watch round 1 in cuts right in on the bend and only barely clears those in behind him and then last week i think he was trying the same but was forced wide and then went in inside a dog into the 3rd when to be honest i thought he'd be staying wide

it could be me nit picking but has me worried
Report woodmanchester April 4, 2014 12:04 AM BST
My concern for you is never a nippy early dog, imo and could need rub of green. How dya rate my Cabra Buck's chances? Think Riptide stayed on better too, fair prospects?

I was actually happy / a little surprised with what he showed up last week, he charged the boxes just as the hare was approaching and missed it badly but was up Blenheim Tricks ass on the corner.

Cabra Buck is still showing his early but he is not staying anywhere near good enough this year, unless something drastic happens in the next 2 weeks or he goes clear and it gets messy in behind i find it hard to see how he stays in front.

Riptide Movement should be going to Wimbledon in my opinion, missed it in round 1 and still led Cabra Buck on the corner who pinged, he has savage early and yes stayed a lot better than i thought he would or gave him credit for before last week

The semi-finals of the Dandelion Bar & Nightclub Easter Cup were run at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night and they produced contrasting style of races with Skywalker Farloe winning a thriller while Cabra Buck dominated all the way.

It ended up with Frances O’Donnell and PJ Fahy both getting two runners through to the final to be run next Saturday.

FARLOE TOUCHES OFF SUGAR RAY

The first semi-final was a terrific contest and it saw the Frances O’Donnell trained Skywalker Farloe (Skywalker Ace/ Final Orchid) snatch a late victory in 29.77.

As anticipated Riptide Movement set a strong gallop as he came away fast from the inside box but Tyrur Sugar Ray also got away smartly and actually bumped with Riptide in the early yards.

Riptide Movement led out of the second bend by three lengths from Ardfert Thunder with Tyrur Sugar Ray and Skywalker Farloe battling it out for third. Riptide continued to lead to the run-in but the pursuers were closing fast. Skywalker Farloe flew up the outside with Tyrur Sugar Ray on the inside and it was the Patterson/ Byrne/ O’Donnell Syndicate owned Skywalker Farloe that grabbed the victory by half a length. Tyrur Sugar Ray was a length in front of Skywalker Legend which got up in the final stride to deprive Riptide Movement of a final place by half a length.

IT’S EASY FOR GRAHAM’S BUCK

The second semi was a totally different type of contest with the Graham Holland trained Cabra Buck producing a most emphatic display to win handily in 29.81.

Last year’s Derby runner-up is noted for his early gears and he certainly put them to best effect here as he flashed from trap four and had clear daylight to the bend from Tyrur Arthur.

Tyrur drifted wide on the bend and Burgess Rumble slipped into second place. The Bart Heil owned Cabra Buck (Big Daddy Cool/ Cabra Belle) really opened up down the back to go five lengths clear with Tyrur Arthur moving back into second.  But it was all about Cabra Buck up front as he won by three and a half lengths from Tyrur Arthur in 29.81 with Hillcroft Champ three parts of a length third.

ran his best race of the year in the semi final, was a massive step up on anything he had done in the Gold Cup or Easter Cup so far

think he leads (shock horror) but is either Sugar Ray or Sky Farloe get a clear at him i think they back run him, he would probably need bother - problem being it is hard to see Sugar Ray getting bother, perhaps Arthur could do him at boxes (doubtful though) as he won't be doing him on the corner as he doesn't seem to like turning left these days - think there is the possibility of Buck and Farloe coming together at boxes and their chances could be ruined

... not sure if the bus is actually booked !

Question:  How many even money favourites for the Easter Cup have had two of their earliest progeny win good races at SPk just the week before?  What a master-stroke of breeding and business by PJ Fahy - and good luck to TSR tonight.

Tyrur Sugar Ray does deserve to win a big final (Big Mike finally got his big prize in this 2 years ago) although he has been his own downfall at times - unfortunately i am hoping he don't get it tonight anyway!!

No matter how i try and convince myself the draw ain't too bad for Skywalker Farloe i can't when you couple that with the draw Sugar Ray has Plain i am convinced we are on the fastest dog in the race but that's no good if he don't get the room and a clear to show that, hopefully Buck blows the lids and Farloe can break well and follow him ahead of Arthur (run off first) and Champ.

Rest of the card is hardly inspiring but Mandy does have a great draw in the Consolation although didn't think she ran great last week. Buckets of early on the inside and then ya have Thunder in 4 moving rails and Ballyana in 5 who is hardly that wide a runner, Mandy has a great draw and if showing anything like the gears she did in round 1 and 2 will win.

Ripper wins the Consolation.  He's come on a bundle.  Bring him over here - his blistering early is made for Wimbers.
