I had the honour to see him race a few times and certainly the greatest crowd-pleaser, Scurlogue Champ. Fearless Action was a rocket. Best seen over 6 bends Bubbly Totti. Always rated Eden Star very highly, winning the Laurels and holds that amazing clock at Romford

Best hurdler seen Arfur Daley, best sprinter Wheres The Limo

Most exciting would be Lenson Billy

Hawk best, Some Picture, Staplers Jo, College Causeway

Hurdles, Platinumlancelot was an absolute tool. Gizmo Pasha too, Pantile etc...quite a few.

There would also be hundreds of Stow dogs I suppose, just cant recall them

Without a doubt the best overall greyhound would be ballyreagan bob.  Anyone like to disagree ?

Used to go to Rommers every FRiday knowing that Lycaon and Creamery Bridge would win. They wouldn't be the best but definitely amongst the most looked forward too on a regular basis.

I would have got goosebumps if I had ever seen Champ, surely there is no contest in that regard

I swear I saw big mike win at cork as well, impressive , took a whack and still won if memory serves me correctly

time didn't come into it, feck knows how he won it from the hit he took

remember watching a hawk race and was sickened as he was slow / away and found trouble.... my instant thought was... oohhh  please get 3rd.  How he managed to mug mineloa farloe on the line il never know.

This is a 'betting without' Bob market I take it as he was on a different planet.

Some Picture was a phenomenal dog, one of my all time favourites. My namesake wouldn't have lived with him when S.P. was on the bunny.
Having said that neither would have Westmead Hawk.

Too young to have had pleasure of Bob or Champ (or go to White City) so for me live.... Some Picture at W'don, Larkhill Jo awesome pace down  the BS at Wembley on some cold winter night, is the fastest pace I've ever seen, but my fav. was Chart King around Shawfield and W'don (did not see the Hawk live)

For me w hawk overrate when we talk of the best. for me mug two Derbys with lucky runs never be in my top 20

This has been done on here before many times, Westmead Hawk was a great dog, two Derby wins says it all.
Having said that, the only view he would have had in a match with Some Picture would have have been his tail wagging in the distance as Some Picture was 4 clear passing the winning line. I'd back Lartigue Note and Hit The Lid against Hawk any day of the week in a match bet as well.

Sorry, can't at all have it that the Hawk had two lucky runs to win his Derby's. How he extricated himself from a sandwich between Blue Majestic and Mineola Farloe, on the run up to the first bend, and thus secure a run round on the inside, was simply phenomenal.  Magical. I had a shedload of dosh coming if Blonde Mac had managed to win but don't at all feel bitter or anything like it.  The Hawk wasn't lucky, he was brilliant - at Wimbledon.   In saying that, match races are something totally different and I am willing to concede that he would have been no certainty against Some Picture who was a truly special greyhound.

Never got to see Scurlogue or Bob run but I was 16 when I saw Some Picture and was convinced I would never see a better dog then him in my life then Westmead Hawk came along. I cant split them they are both legends and if I get to see one better or as good as these two then I will hit the floor in amazement

hawk the most intelligent tracker i have ever seen or am ever likely to see in my lifetime imo,think college causeway is the fastest dog i have ever seen race though

bar Leeview Jet who also got bad trouble it was a bloody useless race, FFS Big Mike was the best dog in the country and had just ran 2nd in the Derby


Leeview Jet led but Big Mike flew down the back and went up his inside doing Leeview Jet, Barnbrook Again [yes that's well known superstar] hit the front for a stride before Big Mike went back by him

i do agree though he was one of the best i've seen too, the most exciting as well in my opinion, loved to watch him race

sherrys prince is a shocking omission, he won 3 consecutive grand nationals at white city
i only saw scurlogue champ run once, that was at walthamstow, and he was beaten

I've seen most of these greyhounds already mentioned and wouldn't argue about any of 'em,  but for me one of the best I've seen is PATRICIA'S HOPE.

And a fine example of how concentrated this dog was when he was racing, in that '73 final there was a bitch in the trap next to him.

Ballyregan bob different league,before he injured this wrist in Leger he made derby dogs look slow.He had about 6months off cos of this injury and when he came back imo his pace was reduced but he was still far too good for all the stayers he met.Also cedit to Savva for not taking bob on with Westmead Move,she may have been able to spoil the party.

I said bob was the best i had seen until he sustained a wrist injury,until that point no stayer could have lived with him.His consecutive wins attempt was interupted and when he returned he carried on winning but imo he was not the same dog.Understand? I though paddies were supposed to be quick witted.

Very early in my greyhound days that so vague recollections but Westmead Move was a flying stayer. Didnt realise Ballyregan Bob was still around her time. Only really started proper records about the time of Waltham Abbey, another amazing stayer

Not really seen many great stayers live. As said Bubbly Totti, Roxholme Girl another, but one who had the potential but flopped Derby night, Dempsey Whisper. Others Fort Leader, Exile Energy and Larkhill Bird, off the top of my head

I love the stayers, Sandy Lane was a great dog, trained by George Curtis. Here is Sandy lane winning the TV Trophy at the Stow in 1983. The dinosaurs on here will remember this..

the hawk the obvious choice for me but one i thought that was poetry in motion was centaur corker. think it had all the attributes to be one of the best stayer/marathon runners seen.a tragedy when it broke down as its true potential still hadn't been fulfilled imo

Salina was a great bitch RothmanMike, nigh on invincible over the extreme distances and smashed the clock at Catford one night over 1050 metres when I was there, the record was never beaten.

A1 debut at Portsmouth won easy off the back and broke 27 seconds i was gobsmacked, followed her intertrack to Nottingham was 14s in paper, opened 5/2 smashed off boards went round in front pulled further and further clear never forget it

proper marathon bitch, none of this leading all the way stuff.
You knew if it didn't get knocked over round the first 2 bends , it was all over.
Usually went off around SP of 1/2 and won by 10L - great times, like taking candy

Premier Fantasy was the fastest dog i've ever seen - would have went down in history as the greatest ever too only for what happened in my opinion, had all but won that English Derby and would have won the Irish on 3 legs

that's in the last 13 years, i've probably seen near every good dog live in that time

Yeah - that's some record sparrow - never to be equalled.  Yellow printer was the most exciting dog of his era then he sired the new kid on the block - Super Rory - who broke his WC record four years later.

Yeah p_r_e_m_i_e_r_, Premier Fantasy was a brilliant dog with hugely unfulfilled potential when forced to retire.  It's pace from a box and round the bends was simply sensational.  He slaughtered some very good dogs in the Easter Cup Final.  Sire won the consolation Irish Derby and his grand sire was second in the Irish Derby - some line.  Were you connected with him or did you spot him as a star in the making and follow, follow?
