Anybody know how much Billys put up towards the prize money for the derby? I would have thought it would be at least the 150k winners pot and maybe more.
Given entries with a few exceptions are paying £250, the track get around 35k in entry fees. By my reckoning using last yr as a guide, which seems very similar given round 1 prize money this yr, they only have to she'll out about 26k to fund all prize money up to and including the semis.
A dog can go all the way to the quarters of the premier competition and end up with £305 if it hasn't won a heat. Les its entry fee that's not funding much petrol over 4 runs.
My point is that the track appear to be putting very little of their own money in to the competition , especially as they don't have to fund graded races whilst the derby fills a card. Even if they fund the non winning finalists prizes is going to cost them 10k max or less than 5% of total prize money yet the GRA seem to think they have a divine right to hold it every year. Surely the GBGB should be insisting on a minimum investment from the track in keeping with the standing of the comp to ensure that those dogs good enough to progress beyond the first two rounds are at least not out of pocket
Ist round winners got £110. Absolute disgrace. Dont expect the GBGB to do anything, they are useless. You are right about the GRA as well. Not interested in Greyhound racing but allowed to run the sports greatest race. Time for a change
