02/04/2013 Killahan Phanter, one of the fastest greyhounds in training in Ireland in recent years, has passed away suddenly at just seven years of age.
The McKenna family owned son of Droopys Kewell and Dianas Ranger died suddenly at the weekend at the kennels of Padraig Regan in County Kerry.
In a short but illustrious racing career, Killahan Phanter won his first eleven races on the trot. Known for his brilliant early pace, the Phanter won the €16,000 Moormac Developments Stake at Tralee and the Joe Dunne Memorial Puppy Stake at Shelbourne.
He was pipped on the line in the **** Champion Stakes and was a clear favourite for the Irish Derby until sustaining his career ending injury in the quarter final of the Irish Derby.
