I was a Hove regular in those days. Used to love the battles between Chicita Banana, Sail On Valerie and my fav Trans Mercedes.

Great days.
Report Swayne March 20, 2013 7:00 PM GMT
Great Festival that was, I went too. And at Wstw Chicita Bananas battles with Waltham Abbey. A couple of years later Where the Limo, and  another railer sprinter that I forget now who was a standing dish at Hove. Dragged my non dog mates in for the early sprint race at 1/2 and paid for our weekend.. great days. And Gizmo Pasha that great big tank of a dog vs Pantile owned by the Cypriot guy Nadir..

I see Greenfield Madam I had a monkey on AP for a comp (before 1st round) I think Hackney, but maybe Wembley and she got to final and was withdrawn lame and I was gutted and thought done my money, and saw in my bank account a week later Co ral had credited it back, without me asking that I'd not have done as considered the money done. Would that happen now?Cry

great post wilkinson

Report Mustapha Bath March 20, 2013 7:46 PM GMT
Being honest Swain... Pantile is my favourite hurdler of all time!!! I started going dogs in 89, I went nearly every night
for 5 years, always Romford but most tracks in the South East..Addict!!! Sad
That's how I used to bet, in them days, the big owners had their dogs graded at first, let them work themselves up
before going into opens and competitions.... Back a Nadir, Southgate, De Moll, Chakko owned dog in an A7 is when
to lump on.... You knew it cost thousands, must be able to win a low grade race. Cool
Nowadays owners want dogs breaking 24.00 in trials, themdays they didn't want the same standard of dog breaking 25.00. Laugh Laugh
Trap 1 please Mr Simpson, where would you like me to put this brown envelope?? Whoops
Report Mustapha Bath March 20, 2013 7:54 PM GMT
Swayne... (Sorry for the mis-spell)... Blush

Misty water-coloured memories, of the way we were. Shattered pictures of the smiles we left behind, what's too painful to remember, we simply choose to forget, so it's the laughter we will remember, forever we remember, the way we were. Gladys Knight.

Not sure anyone mentioned Druids Johno. Wasnt he Prince Andrew's dog and very short for a Derby final, one year?
Report DONEMYLOT March 21, 2013 9:00 AM GMT

Mustapha, do you remember Big Lal on the cheap side?
Report roo March 21, 2013 4:16 PM GMT
Ravage again went on the deck at exeter flapper, the kid leading up put a loose fitting jacket on and the dog somehow put his front paw up inside it as it was flapping and went on the rory, it was only 5 infront at the time.
Report Mustapha Bath March 21, 2013 6:05 PM GMT
DML... Big Lal?? Can't place him... We used to go cheap side, even though I had an owners pass..
Used to be around 15 of us every meeting, only Grant goes now out of our little crew... Sad
Used to be Harry Hyman, Roger Barton, Alan Henderson, Barry Dennis and Ray Rains...
5 bookmakers at the Cheap side, how times change... Sad
Bought my first dog off Phil McCloughlin who is now a TV Star.. Happy... Oi Oi Kilbarry!!! Love

Sorry for hijacking the Wingspares Thread...
I remember most of our little gang going to Hove for an Inter-track... Romford provided the coach... We all backed
Convey Captain at 10/1.... Oi Oi.... Happy Days!!! Happy

We were there every meet, owned Ballinabola May for a while, anyway, great days

mustapha - I was a cheap side part of furniture then at Romf, I'm sure I'd likely recognise you, great days..was big Pantile fan too, early paced monster

& Burst, Chequers WorldLove, Pond Typhoon, and raiders Hello Blackie, Aghadown Timmy (fastest pup I've ever seen), Bonney Seven..

And disappointed old favourites not on g-data: Rathduff Gallant (in the rain), Very Rare, the super stayer Ballyfolian PleaLove
Report Mustapha Bath March 21, 2013 8:53 PM GMT
Rathduff Fever Wink...
I know all of those dogs... Agree with you on Timmy... We backed him to win the Puppy Cup ante post 3/1, he was 10/11 the next day
before it started.. No good though.. Sad
I bred a litter to Bonney Seven. (2 decent graders, 2 never raced injured, 1 too slow)... I owned Kilbarry Six and later Lager Top in those days.
Lager Top was by Foretop, my favourite b1tch along with Rychelle...
Kilbarry ran against Chequers, Burst, Very Rare and Ballyfolian Plea (400)... Pond Typhoon, Rockies Glory and Suttons Hill were the Track
Champs!!!
I don't know if you go Romford now at all?? I Tic Tac for Simmons on Fridays and Saturdays for my sins!!! Obviously did something bad in
a past life.... Laugh Laugh

Hello Blackie was one of my favourite dogs as well.I've fond memories of driving to Ramsgate to back Barry Silkman's Carlsberg Champ in the final of the Kent St. Leger, smashed out and made all but was up against it against Banana.

Interesting to see that years Derby favourite Druids Johno in the sprint against Ravage Again. I take it Ravage bolted up that night?

I HAD BEEN DOGS MANY TIMES, BUT THE NIGHT I TRULY FELL IN LOVE WITH IT WAS
A FINAL WITH WALTHAM ABBEY IN TRAP 3 AND CHICITA BANANA IN 5 AND THERE WAS A
PACKED STAND WITH BANANA INFLATABLES.
I BACKED WALTHAM ABBEY AND IT LED AND CHICITA FOUND TROUBLE 3 TIMES AND LOST BY A HEAD.
I didnt back many fortunate winners over the years but that one was the catalyst to my
stow love affair.
Knew the owner of Flying loco if anyone remembers the A1/OPEN DOG, CRACKED OUT FROM
trap 3 in a small final at 6/1 and the oi ois rang around the track. In the bar straight
after going loco in accapulco song came on, great memories.
Miss those neon lights of stow.
