Anyone employed in horse racing or its affiliate service industries owes a debt of gratitude to Newmarket MP Matthew Hancock and Gambling Minister John Penrose. Both will have worked hard to get the offshore betting loophole addressed in the Budget.
Hancock is out there batting for his constituents and will presumably have leveraged his past working experience with George Osborne. Penrose, on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish. He is aligned to neither racing nor the bookmakers. He is scrupulously fair-minded and utterly unmovable in his quest to wade through a very complex relationship between betting and racing to find an equitable solution. Unlike past ministers in his position, he is his own man. The budget was expensive for the offshore bookmakers and some will now be cursing the Gibraltar-based arm of Betfred for their recent 'attention grabbing’. They will rightly be wondering whether the spat there over Betfred hiding behind the skirts of the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority and refusing to pay out £823,000 of legitimate winnings on the 'Barney Curley coup’ may have been in part responsible for Osborne finding space in his crowded Budget to address them. |

evening gents, favour rebel in final, laid it last week repeat of that i think will be hard to beat.
love lamora, caught my eye yonks ago as something that stays on, had small dabble antepost for st leger but didnt go for it. just think here 1 or 3 will get loose and then lamora needs trouble free run to have a chance of picking the leader up. think 5/2 is short to be honest but no doubt i will have pants pulled down again ![]() |

not bad mate, though a fkin magician couldnt get me on a winner at min it seems!
perfect example being today, mate phones me raving about trap 6 in swindon trap challenge,me being the clever fker i am thinks, the coral watch your trap is the better bet as its sameish price and theres less variance with the bet, trap 6 wins 6 races to win the trap chal, wins the first 3 n all, must have been 1/33 in running,by the time the last race comes about, red is a point behind 6 after a ridicolous run of reds, winning and placing,im on the 7/4f in 6,obviously it finishes 3rd and red wins to do me by a point, couldnt make it up! |
|
By:
do me a favour mate, dont bet rebel in the final :-D

yes patrick too true. trying to convince the wife to let me have her, but we got a 3 month old baby and a toddler running riot not quite 3. she would be home all day and id be at work, so she would have to look after a lot and being run off her feet with 2 kids as well, she doesnt fancy the dog as well, which i can understand. sure we'll sort something out providing she carries on improving.
