KINSLEY'S jackpot pool on Saturday night soared to an astonishing £103,000, thanks in large part to a single bet of £46,656 that covered the entire field.

Fortunately for the big player, his or her wager was the sole winner, with a dividend of more than £73,000, although it was a close-run thing.

John Curran, Kinsley's promoter, said: "A punter, who is big into horses, had played and lost the previous Saturday, then decided to go for broke and cover the field. It carries the risk in that it could have proven disastrous had there been multiple winners, and he was warned to that effect.

"After much consideration, he decided to go for it. As the pool rose, it offered amazing value to other regulars, who saw the chance of a massive pay-off for a few hundred pounds.

"One other big player also took his chance, and would have shared the pool, but had five of six in the fifth leg, but not the trap six winner. He would have had the final leg covered."
Had that punter succeeded, it would have meant a £10,000 loss for the full perm player.

Another big winner was the track itself, a 29 per cent retention meaning it was nearly £30,000 better off.

Curran added: "I've never known anything quite like it, it just proves what can happen when jackpots take off."

The six-race win jackpot, which is run at Kinsley on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons, had built up over the course of a year. It stood at £32,545 after racing the previous Sunday, rising from £21,679 last Saturday week.

A bit tough on the other big player, who couldn't find the 5th leg winner from 5 selections!

Apparently, Woodmanchester marked his card.

A few years ago i went to Kinsley and did the jackpot,it was a big jackpot of 25k,all the races on the jackpot card were open races and there were a few short priced favourites,to my surprise i got through to the last leg,and an even bigger surprise i held the last ticket going through.
My mate who was a trainer at the track at the time had a word with one of the bookies and told him i had the last ticket,we came to some arrangement that was fair to both parties, the race was a sprint and i was the second fav,to my horror it slept in and never showed, but for compensation i got £500 of the bookie.

(the dog that i had in the last race ended up a top class dog and ran in the Derby that year)

So for a single bet of £46,656 he retains £13,500. Should have asked him how he justifies that.
