27/02/2013 Paradise Madison, which rocketed to fame with his flying exploits at Shelbourne in November and December, has been named as the inaugural winner of the Newcomer of the Year Award.
Bred by Sean Meade in Miltown Malbay, the son of Head Bound and Paradise Alanna three times went under the 28 second barrier at Shelbourne as he clocked 27.92, 27.96 and then a new National Record time of 27.67. He was desperately unlucky in the final of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake when knocked over as he challenged at the third bend but had already established his status as the sport’s new crowd-puller.
Trained by Ollie Bray for Dave Buckley, Paradise Madison is due to return to action in the College Causeway/ Killahan Phanter Easter Cup next month.
27/02/2013 Two legends of the Irish greyhound world, Fraser Black and Jackie Devine will be honoured at the National Greyhound Awards presentations in Athlone on Sunday week.
It has been confirmed that Scottish born but long-time Rathangan resident Fraser Black is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and few will quibble with what is surely a very popular decision.
Fraser is one of the quiet men of the game but he has made a massive impact on the Irish greyhound scene as he won most of the top events available.
Jackie Devine has been a true pillar of the sport in the midlands for many, many years and has been one of the great motivators behind the battle to save Longford Track.
Jackie has also enjoyed considerable success with his greyhounds and could best be described as a true gentleman. He thoroughly deserves this honour
