In 2001 greyhound Athea Storm beat racing pigeon Speckled Jim in a contest at Wimbledon greyhound Stadium.

Kempton Park racetrack in 2004 hosted the contest between the greyhound Simply Fabulous and the racehorse Tiny Tim, in which the canine competitor easily won.

2007 saw rugby ace and speedy winger Bryan Habana racing against a cheetah in a contest that was is no way staged to drum up interest in the Rugby World Cup.


Now Oscar Pistorius, world famous Olympic and Paralympic athlete, has taken time out of whinging about someone else’s prosthetic limbs to race a horse in what has been dubbed by some cynics as a publicity stunt and not, as is patently the case, an invaluable piece of scientific research into the capabilities of mammals with four legs versus mammals with two springy metal legs.... that is of course if he gets away with murder (for me he hasn't got a leg to stand on).
