ROBERT & MAESTRO LIKELY SORTS IN JOE DUNNE MEMORIAL

24/01/2013
The draw for the Joe Dunne Memorial Puppy Stake was made yesterday with just eighteen names to be drawn. It was a disappointing response to such a high profile competition but it will be run over three rounds.

The likely favourite is the Davy Reynolds trained Oran Maestro, the dog formerly known as Leamaneigh Story. He was bought by Elliott Whyte and John O’Sullivan during the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake but was badly baulked when challenging for the lead at the third bend in the final. He goes in the third heat where he should have the measure of the opposition.

Another well fancied candidate will be the Robert Gleeson trained Slippery Robert which won his only race in 28.30 for owner Larry Dunne and impressed on his return when clocking 28.28 in a trial on Saturday night at Shelbourne. He goes in the first heat where he runs from six and his chief rivals could be Lochkin Brave and Skywalker Apollo, the latter formerly known as Melodys Bolt.

Tony Grassick’s Aoifes Hope has a good draw in the second heat and may well be the one to beat.

shocking it only got 18 entires, as bad a Joe Dunne as i can remember. still saying that there are at least 3 top class prospects in there

Skywalker Apollo is too big @ 14s, he will want further in time and even now the trip will probably be on the sharp side for him but i'd have him 3rd in behind Oran Maestro and Slippery Robert so at that prices he looks a decent e/w bet.
Report woodmanchester January 25, 2013 12:04 PM GMT
Seems obvious to me, 11/8 Oran Maestro. Surely be too fast for principal rival Slippery Robert, if they both reach the final. Wont get rich though, so doubled with 3/1 Glenanore Dancer in the Red Mills at combined odds of 17/2. True, antepost fav Ashfield Castle would be a safer choice to qualify from the semis but still hopeful Glenanore will get through and be presented with a better draw than Ashfield in the decider, then race on!

Oh, looked for ew and came up with Slippery Sooty, prominent early most races and Highview Report, comes with a late rattle. Plumped for 20/1 Report at double the price of Sooty

Good race after the Joe Dunne heats. Kereight King beat Hot Pursuit and Killbarry Rover recently but no shock to see either turn the tables.

PS Hope Bugatti does well in the last race at Limerick Saturday night, now trained by Neilus O'Connell

Out of interest what makes you come to that conclusion? The 28.15 run he did when the track was absolutely bonkers? Slippery Robert did 28.30 in his 2nd ever race [around the same time], it's fair to say he could still find more improvment which i'd say he did on his trial last week of 28.28 despite not coming away [as good a run as the 28.15 i'd say]. I would have Oran Maestro fav ahead of Slippery Robert as he has ran and won in a better grade but it is dangerous to just assume Oran Maestro is too fast for Slippery Robert.

Splits, Robert's not as good and heading for trouble if not drawn well? Oran, away and clear? End times comparable yes, but i'd rather be on a dog in front
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y January 25, 2013 12:29 PM GMT
Not drawn well?, he will be well drawn. There are 3 (w)s in the comp, one of them is Skywalker Apollo [who i backed] and he doesn't look to have early and the other is Aoifes Hope and he ain't in the same league as Slippery Robert. Far more likely Oran Maestro gets a bad draw than Slippery Robert, actually can't see how Robert gets a bad draw.

It will be interesting to see how good Slippery Robert can be, we have already seen what Oran Maestro can do in top class puppy races. They are not giving anything away with the top 2 in the market anyway, there was one massively overpriced runner but they have got him in about right now. Grin

You know the score better than me PF, it was just my opinion Robert may not keep Oran within range. Robert useful and pacey undoubtedly but i maintain Oran prove faster over 525yds

Added Cashels Pride @ 33/1 e/w

Thought he showed impressive pace on Shelbourne debut after making a right mess of the start and he could be pretty decent. Obvioualy it will take a big step up on what he has done to challenge the market leaders but if he can learn to start better he could go pretty quick judging by his last run.

Skywalker Apollo @ 14/1 e/w
Cashels Pride @ 33/1 e/w

How on Earth was Oran Maestro allowed to be sent off at evens when it was only 11/8 outright? Too fast for his rivals but thought that about Madison though and we saw anything can happen there. Some prospect this Maestro, his time faster than smart Kereight King's.

Slippery Robert left flat footed at start and Lockin Brave held him all the way to the pick-up.
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y January 27, 2013 11:30 AM GMT
You could have had 5/4 Oran Maestro last night, thought Slippery Robert ran a blinder and still don't think there is much between the top 2 in the betting. Was really disappointed with Skywalker Apollo, thought he showed nothing, will be delighted if he can finish 3rd now.
Report woodmanchester January 28, 2013 9:53 AM GMT
Apparently, Power will be going 10/11 Maestro and 9/4 Robert outright now. Ripped off with 11/8 before Saturday, but think virtually evens good now.

Also Saturday, Bugatti won no worries 4 lengths in joint fastest heat. Good little competition at Limerick with College Maybe, Dear Pa, Gizmo Classic and Carrowgarriff all still in there pitching.

At Clonmel, i wasnt surprised to see Ashfield Castle beat Glenanore Dancer coz of the draw but the track bookmakers made Glenanore fav! Closer depending on draw in final, i think

Clonmel

1. Christys Bolt
2. Ballyhill Beryl
3. Glenanore Dancer
4. Ashford Castle
5. Plus Five (w)
6. Screen Critic (w)

Will be some battle to the corner between Beryl and Dancer, both would need to be leading i'd say. Ashford Castle will be looking to turn behind them and then it should be a great race.
Report woodmanchester February 2, 2013 9:26 AM GMT
Really cant see Oran Maestro not winning the Joe Dunne, unless it does a Madison. I'm sure he will be too fast for Slippery Robert in the second semi.

Expecting Slippery Sooty to be much nearer front rank in the opening semi.

Later, I'm yet to be taken in surrounding the hype of Money Talks. Better options to me are Stay Thirsty, useful if fit enough and the admirably consistent Lolos Joe

Two good semis. Oran Maestro wasnt well away but came to take the lead at three-quarters, where he was pinched back. This allowed Cashels Pride and Slippery Robert to close but showing grit, Maestro kept up the pressure and held on. Seems Cashels may have had a look close home. If he did, it would have been blatently in front of the stewards but such are the judges in Ireland, wouldnt be surprised if no action is taken.

Aoifes Hope made all in the faster first semi but Slippery Sooty may have been a shade unlucky. Should be a fine final!

Hope Cashels Pride chases what it's supposed too a bit harder this week, dog has plenty of pace, hopefully will click the e/w part.

It all depends how Oran Maestro breaks, if he pings he should win, if he doesn't as in the semi final he could have problems as i'd expect Slippery Sooty to go up well from 1 and Aoifes Hope has lovely early too. Slippery Robert will come away one night too, walked out the last 2 weeks.

only had 7 races, if it gets a sharpen up this week must be in with a great chance
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y February 7, 2013 8:32 AM GMT
He has only had 4 races, he has a chance if one of the front 2 in the market don't hit the front early. However Oran Maestro and Slippery Robert are capable of 28.25-30 runs if hitting the front early and the rest have not shown they can do that. I do think Cashels Pride can go quicker than he has so far and by quite a bit but he does his running from halfway so needs the market leaders not to lead.

Still hope Oran Maestro wins, fine prospect.

Fancy a couple of others on the card. In the graded sweepstake heats, Allen Master should go close if overcoming middle draw with quick start and getting a run nearer the fence.

Ashfield Impact is a very likeable type and has the ability to lower the colours of Money Talks, good race in prospect

Thought Allen Master had won, terrible camera angle.

Camas impressive and Impact ran well enough. Think Money Talks over-rated, imo
