Making the trek over weather permitting, for a good renewal of the annual competition.
Reliably informed 365 not doing an antepost book, so doubtful any of the others will.
Dont want to give too much away at this stage coz hoping Ryan will oblige me a small bet.
Heat 1. Kowloon Conner is fast and stays. Certainly got what it takes to lift the trophy and a live contender. Whiterock has hit form at the right time and could surprise a few. Head Iton Hayesy has been very disappointing since returning to action but smart at best.
Heat 2. Romeo Recruit flew round in a trial but faces some worthy rivals. Alien Planet hasnt really hit the heights expected but is useful nevertheless. Fridays Shea is pacey and chances if things go his way. Cleveland Peter is a decent and prominent early, never raced this far though.
Heat 3. Skywalker Louie won the Steel City Cup and has 16 wins out of 22 over course and distance this year, must be right in the mix, you dont need to be Einstein to work that one out. Droopys Pride is in fine fettle and could make a big impact.
The Puppy Trophy should only really go one of two ways: Lemon Pluto or Farley Semour. Preference for the former but very unlikely there will be antepost.
Top sprinter in my book Farloe Barracuda, can be forgiven last time's lapse and fine stayer Welton Arthur, who often does just enough, contribute to a fine card.
Good finale too with the bitches Silverview Pinky and Shelbourne Abi, both Oaks casualties, set for a rare old tussle.
Bets: Looking at antepost the Harry Holmes at the track and a treble Pluto, Semour, Barracuda, paying guesstimated odds of about 9/4.
Good preview Woody - I'll be there myself tonight, with Belle Vue's Thursday nights now history.
I have to confess to being a bit shocked to see Lemon Pluto in a 500M competition at this stage of his career. Although tonight looks a bit of a penalty kick I think this trip wll be absolutely at the limit of his stamina and I'll be opposing with Blissful Rambler whose brother goes in the next heat and has already been tried over 6 bends.
I think Fridays Shea is awfully well boxed in his heat of the main comp. With this dog it's all about trapping, and if he does, he is very fast. I reckon he's a 2/1 chance to hit the lids and if I can get 5's to win the race, it'll be a bit of value.
The bet of the night could be Elaine Parker's Demesne Tornado who will think he is taking on labradors compared to the company he has been keeping recently. Unfortunately napped by the Racing Post, anything better than 5/4 should be snapped up. However, laying the odds over this trip is the quickest way to the poorhouse.
Welton Arthur couldn't be backed at odds on with counterfeit money.

Very foggy and visibility poor over the Pennines going but really enjoyed the racing and particularly profitable too, for a change.
The treble came in, paid 15/8 and Ryan laid me 7/2 Louie and 8/1 Whiterock outright

Miss Wales will vouch for the 20/1 tote forecast i got up on Louie to beat Joker. Not counting successful treble, won 4 other bets all told.
Everything went to scripture with the only slight surprises Lemon Pluto's slow end-time, Demesne Tornado only 3rd (let me down for another treble), Alien Planet and Droopys Pride eliminated, Romeo Recruit getting up in the photo (never looked it from outside), Welton Arthur never looking likely to go by at odds of 1/2 and neither Silverview Pinky nor Shelbourne Abi winning the bitches race.
Draw for Harry Holmes Memorial Final next Thursday:

you are a strange fellow woody.......i would not back a dog that won at crayford yesterday because it was only 2/1 let alone be happy that a treble paid 15/8......maybe that says something more about me than you actually......... it certainly looked your sort of card at sheffield though 8 winning favs..........5 of them odds on........although if you had placed a score on every fav (the four beat were also very short)you would have collected eight times out of twelve and won less than £50.00 at the end of the evening........still well done on the forecast and i know having an opinion with that amount of winners makes you happy so christmas looks to have come early........

Thanks Winja, they looked nailed on to me. Often do and one lets you down in trebles and accas, nice when it comes off. Would rather witness the impressive wins of Semour, Barracuda and Louie than backing an average animal at say 4/1 and hoping for the best

agree woody it is nice to witness fast dogs running well but when you need to turn a pound the average dogs win every time...........it all depends what you need from the game.......
