I take your point that 4 races in 4 weeks would have been pretty much the same as 5 races in 5 weeks.

If you'd read my posts you would see i never once said that so i've no idea where you have got that from.

Listen i never on this thread said i agreed with the format of the competition, i never on this thread said i disagreed with it either, i have accepted the way it is formatted and informed others before it was posted on the IGB how many dogs would qualify from each round and that has got some people in a tizzy. Sorry for trying to be helpful.

There were gasps from the early arriving racegoers when the time was announced for Ardfert Thunder’s pre-racing trial at Shelbourne last night.

The Frances O’Donnell trained son of Droopys Vieri and Soviet Cheyenne had gone unbeaten through the Munster Puppy Cup at Clonmel with a best time of 28.41.

But he still caught people by surprise when he flew around and stopped the clock at 28.09, just nine spots off  Milldean Panther’s record.

Leamaneigh Story @ 12/1 e/w (His Thurles form looks very decent. Has clocked 28.76 around there and done 1.78, 1.81 and 1.84 sectionals which looks good in comparison to what Milldean Panther was doing down there last year. He has had 2 trials around Shelbourne going well enough in them and looks to have a nice mix of early and middle pace. Has drawn the toughest heat but with the format can hopefully qualify and the draw looks alright and he has seemed to take a middle course to the corner in Thurles. I think he is a more than fair price at 12/1)

Fear Big Star @ 16/1 e/w (Only had 2 races and is still a baby but i think he could turn out very good. He really impressed me last week, he wasn't well away on the night but went up to the corner well enough and managed to get around handy, he then flew down the back straight but got to the bend just at the wrong time and checked up. He can break better than he did that night as shown on his debut and he has big pace, with more experience he could be anything)

They're my main 2 bets but had to have some pennies on 1 more as he is another that could turn out to be anything.

Melodys Gamble @ 14/1 e/w (Had done 28.50 before he had raced and then was a short price for his debut in a really hot unraced stake. He proceeded to make the worst start i think i have ever seen a dog make doing a 2.55 sectional, however after being left absolutely miles behind he absolutely flew around to only get beaten about 6L. He has since came out on Thursday last week and done a flying 28.33 trial on a track i didn't feel was that flying. He has mental pace and is another with experience could turn out to be anything)

Rockchase Reem  25-1 PP is a huge price for the amount of pace he has at his disposal. Obviously over this distance he is going to have to passa number of dogs each night but he is a seriously fast hound. The other is Melodys Gamble 14-1 PP who could literally be a classic winner in waiting even after one unplaced start.I can wait to see what he does tonight.

Obviously extremely difficult with so much untapped potential, bit like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Thought: narrow it down. Came up with about 18, then boiled it down 6.

Top two Farloe Buddy and Jacksallstar obviously most fancied to go furthest at this stage but nothing clever in that

Not too far behind those, i liked 10/1 Droopys Adler, small play, along with 14/1 Lassa Expidition. Looking at a couple of outsiders, thrown a few coins at 25/1 apiece Skywalker Legend and Ladbrokes Star.

Good luck, think we will be needing it!

It's a pity he got injured at Longford as god only knows how he could have got on in the Derby.

What is everyone's views on the winning heat times? Surely there isn't 15 lengths off a difference (using 0.07 for a length)between the TR holder and some of the heat winners.
PF- How did the pre race trials go time wise? What's your view on the going last night?

Milldean Panther 28.44
Tyrur Sugar Ray 28.36
Razldazl Will 28.47
Uncle Eoin 28.52
Tyrur Gilmore 28.46

I didn't think the going was anything out of the ordinary, Madison and North Bound did huge runs (there best yet) but Refuge Of Sinner ran pretty much to his Shelbourne form off his best break around there. This dog was going around Shelbourne in brilliant times before he had ever raced. He made the Longford Derby Final in which he got injured after going into the comp with only 1 run to his name. He has always had the speed he just wasn't coming away, i was surprised that he had the early to lead last night though but once doing so he was always going to do a big run, granted i didn't think that big!!

There are still plenty of pups in here that can win the comp, he is more experienced than mos Madison and North Bound t and has ran in better class races than them but he will still have to keep trapping like he did last night in my opinion. I think it's a real exciting comp and think there are plenty still in with a big chance.

Yeah Chopper i thought both Melodys Gamble and Fear Big Star ran well in defeat, i think they would have been better off the other way around down the back as i don't think they where doing each other any favours. I think both are capable of a massive run if they can get it right at boxes, maybe Melodys Gamble this week but worry for the other lad with the dog directly outside him.

I don't know Fattie and won't be able to make it in (i don't think) due to a mates 30th, can't get him to go dogs.
If it where me i would invite Farloe Warhawk for the 525y and maybe Ballymac Eske for the 550y, 575y or 600y race if he did a big trial. I would not invite Eden Star because he has basically done f all this year due to injury (not his fault) and there has to be dogs who have achieved more this year than him and they should not be left out.
However reading other forums plenty don't any English runners invited bar Sawpit Sensation seen as he entered the Derby and the others have not ran in IGB competitions, Warhawk did run Derby final night though.

Are you really going to argue this with me?? Read an Irish racecard FFS. 7 spots = 1 length

When the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake is moved to an English track i will then conceade 1L = 8 spots but while it is run at Shelbourne it is as i have said.

Bad situation if you where on Jackallstar, draw is a bit lobsided with the 2nd and 3nd quarter looking weaker than the 1st and 4th.

PF do you think Rockchase needs outside or is he just clumsy and all over the place? I want to punt Droopys Adler in that heat but think there could be carnage on the run up
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y November 26, 2012 4:04 PM GMT
Yeah you'd have to think he is better off away from the fence. I don't really know what to make of the race, no idea what will go around in front or how it's likely to pan out. I made Adler fav but it's a race i won't play unless someone goes a lot bigger on something than i made it.

Paradise Madison just awesome again. Great commentary on the race as well!
Report Chopper76 November 27, 2012 2:33 PM GMT
Does anyone have any halfway splits for the stake? I'm thinking of punting Skywalker, he must have been 5 of Melodys Gamble out of the 2nd bend and got to 3.5 lengths of him, his lack of early is a concern though
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y November 27, 2012 2:45 PM GMT
He ran on real well last weekend, thought he was very eyecatching. Like you say though he's always going to be behind to the corner. On Saturday you'd imagine he will be turning behind 1,2,3 and 4 and if he misses it he has 6 coming across him. He's so strong though you'd hope he runs on to qualify at the least. Don't have any half way sectionals for ya.

1. Paradise Madison
2. Droopys Adler
3. Rockchase Reem
4. Odyssey
5. Leamaneigh Turbo
6. Airforce General (m)

1. Fear Big Star
2. Scolari Express
3. Leamaneigh Story
4. Ballyhill City
5. Farloe Buddy
6. Kilmeen Bill (w)

Leamaneigh Story and Fear Big Star really stepped up last night, always thought they had big runs in them and they are getting better every week although they are probably in the tougher heat in my opinion.
Got a big slice of luck with Leamaneigh Turbo getting through due to Skywalker Legend getting his card held.
Paradise Madison ran well after getting first bend trouble and is plotted up in the semi final, please draw him middle in the final!! Devil

saw madison weaving about behind quicker starters at longford in the summer, seems to have come on a bomb since then. Odyssey could get out quicker and maybe lead to the third bend wandering  about as it does,  but it dont get home so madison looks a good thing .... but they are pups Cry

buckleys is well touted here (no change there then !) in the second semi-final but looks to have bottomed out now, will be surprised to see it in the final, it would be a great run from 3 if it did get through !

What is the point in Stan James?? The have priced up the comp now and have 13 dogs quoted, yes 13 dogs quoted at the semi final stage Laugh It gets worse though, they have Airforce Fear and Lyreen Legend quoted, Airforce Fear was a NR in the quarter finals and Lyreen Legend finished last in it's quarter final.

I know i like Leamaneigh Turbo but they have him quaoted @ 6/1 Laugh when he is 50/1 elsewhere. They won't take a bet and anyway if that is going to be the effort they put into pricing it up seriously what is the point.
Report woodmanchester December 3, 2012 10:24 AM GMT
Laughable, but i normally like 365. Fair and earliest odds on nearly every competition for my little bets.

Already with 3/1 Madison, i can afford the luxury of having a 7/2 bet Story. Very confident i will collect Happy

I can't find a bet on the semi finals with the off course books, i made Madison a 2/5 shot as well and the rest are all too short with Droopys Adler way too short but i suppose they're avoiding e/w bets with him.

The 2nd semi is the same in that i think they have it right. I went:

7/2
9/2
2/1
16/1
9/2
40/1

so i can't be playing on that race either

The track is such a speedway at the mo and by no means am I knocking the dog, what a run! The management need to do something about, times are not comparable week on week, they need to introduce going ratings or it's going to turn into a farce

Chopper76 What is everyone's views on the winning heat times?

i think madisons was a one off, i bet the trainer is in a right quandry now, somewhere between "Has it peaked too early ?" and "WTF did I do right in the last couple of weeks so that I can repeat it when I want !"

Laugh

This was way beyond a joke before last night but now it's laughable Laugh.

I couldnt envisage defeat for both Madison and Story, prize going to a 25/1 shot, hot on the heels of a 20/1 shot winning the Essex Vase. What on Earth have i got to do to get an antepost bet up in big race final? Laugh.

Well, this result just puts my betting year in a nutshell, unbelieveable! Laugh.

Paradise Madison emerged unscathed from his horrific looking fall in Saturday’s final of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake at Shelbourne Park.

Both owner Dave Buckley and trainer Ollie Bray yesterday expressed their relief that the new Shelbourne 525 record breaker appeared to be in top form following the incident.

The dog is now set to have a break before returning to action in either the SIS Live Gold Cup or the Easter Cup. However, both owner and trainer were of the opinion that the dog’s days of running over 525 yards are at an end.

Given the dog’s obvious suitability for distances further than 525 yards, one wonders if he can add the 550 yards record to his amazing 27.67 mark for the 525 yards. Given his style of running one would even go so far as to reckon that this brilliant son of Head Bound and Paradise Alanna could well go on to claim the 550, 575 and 600 yard records. Now, wouldn’t that be something?
