Taylor Sky was 9/2 for the Gold Cup. Unsuccessful, has cost me an absolute fortune and must be a much larger price here considering the quality of opposition. Short fav when in trouble behind Mags Gamble in aforementioned Gold Cup but will still surely be well to the fore in antepost betting.

Bubbly Phoenix is unraced since his sparkling 28.22s romp over 480m Derby final night. Think he's had a setback as muted going for Irish Derby which never materialised.

Loughteen Blanco caught close home by Westmead Maldini over 515m Hove in the Sussex Cup but should be more at home over this 462m trip.

Boher Paddy retains more speed than most people recognise and could be a force in trying for his first Category One success. Much will depend on his starting against some of these speedy types though.

Jaytee Pedro beat a top quality field including Phoenix, Mill Bling Bling, Blue Artisan and Hather George in the 2nd round of the Derby but then in trouble and went downhill, been off.

Think much will depend on how dogs do in trials. Will be interesting to see those results and how the outright market takes shape

Taylors Sky is brilliant on his day and i've always held Boher Paddy in the highest regard but the pair have cost me a fortune and feel it's time to jump ship, enter Loughteen Blanco.

He was friendless on his English debut when well beaten behind Boher Paddy and Razldazl Jayfkay back in February but has acclimatised well since and went very close to lifting the Sussex Cup over Hove's demanding 515m. This 462m could be right up his street and he looks a more reliable starter than Sky and Paddy, which is needed round this speedy circuit. Had a little go at 7/1 anyway.

Got my eye on 33/1 and 50/1 each-way shots. Will post later

woody agree with you on all 3 points think you need a fast away dog for this comp and loughteen blanco fits the bill but i fancy one i think could out trap it all day long

Although not one of Lister's better-known dogs, not getting the praise he deserves recently. Led and made Boher Paddy work overtime to three-quarters in a heat of the Steel City Cup, then finished a fine second to the smart Fire Height Spec, who i'm sure Draper doesnt rate too far behind Ballymac Eske and Farloe Warhawk. This 462m could be ideal.

On bubbly I think he is the fastest in the comp. but hope for a bit of 33 belvedere Emma no where to be found  come on bubbly save stake with blanco

Couldnt believe Phoenix was 14/1, thought he would have been bang in top part of market but left it alone coz questions to answer after runs in Ireland

did get to Derby semi and did stonking run at Wdon to win Plate.

perhaps he was not right at Tralee, given comments on injury at that time.

I agree that you'd think he'd be better on big less tight running tracck, but plenty of similar type dogs like Westmead Maldini, also run tights like Romford.

I'd hardly call his wimbledon runs(a 133,129 and 128 GD rated amongst them) or tralee for that matter a "flop".

Belvedere Emma's sparkling 27.50 secs in one of the trials puts her right in the reckoning. She'll do for me, especially if she can keep getting drawn in red!

Happy with 7/1 Blanco and little add 33/1 Jaytee Pedro through too but they clash. Hather George got no kind of run, out but can do better.

Did anyone expect Murlens Crash to turn right from trap 3? Showed great pace afterwards but ultimately out.

I did not see race last night, but she's only run 2 tight tracks in UK, and only handful of races, and other than 22 Aug GD rated 120 race not really spectacular, or in Ireland (in v few races) either? Might be wrong but reckon she's got a fair bit to go to be spoken of in Pearl or Perky category?

Dont really pay much attention to ratings Swayne, but i honestly think she's up there with the ones you mention plus Loner, Mutual and Bansha etc. I'm impressed with her anyway

I wouldnt be so sure Fatty. Think Romeo could be alongide Pong early and Phoenix may squeeze round in front at the bend. After below par in first round, Boher Paddy is likely to be his second biggest price ever in over 40 races but needs to polish up starting and improve, quite capable of it though.

Although Taylors Sky is hard to get away from, might not be as easy as expected. Droopys Reason has loads of early gears and Belvedere Emma showed guts and battling qualities in the first round.

Hoping Blanco should soon settle in the issue in his heat, and he should. Pedro has been smart when breaking in the past and i'm hoping they both qualify. Jordans Chris and Lenson Mac are useful in their own right.

Millwards Matt produced much bigger run than anticipated in the opening round but will he repeat? You Mind Me is fast early and likely to be prominent throughout. Lenson Peter respected

Romeo may move off but speedy early and could dispute lead with Phoenix creeping round at the bend again, thats all i said in response to your saying you couldnt see how Pong couldnt lead. My mate texted me the early ante-post betting. He said, blah, blah, blah and 14/1 bar. I said, "what?". "Phoenix a non-runner?". I expected him to me near top of market with Sky and Blanco but he had been disappointing in Ireland and sorry i didnt step in. Next i'd looked only 10/1. Fine win last night, but Paddy still running flat.

Scratching my head a bit about Sky. He broke and thought he led but the splits show Ballycowen was in front crossing winning line first time. I saw the field bunch at the bend and was watching Belvedere Emma ko-ing Droopys Reason, so when i looked back up was surprised to see Ballycowen two lengths in front of Sky entering the back straight. I would have expected Sky to emerge on top with advantage of rails. Still, Sky brave and the time was there in the end.

Count myself extremely luckily to still be in the competition with Blanco. He was having forty winks at the start and left. Only coz the T1 dog went wrong and it wasnt a particularly fast race he qualified, also aided by Jordans Chris easing three-quarters

Thanks. Pleased enough with that for Blanco as long as he aint snoozing again. May move off slightly. Only had 2 races wearing red and 2nd on both occasions so very hopeful of qualification. Phoenix looks good to qualify also.

Didnt go so, obviously, dont know precisely what happened but reading the report and picking the bare bones out of the result, Phoenix was very impressive. Sky seemed unlucky second but through. Think Phoenix will be short for the final, then Sky. Reckon big prices the rest. Draw:

As impressive as he was maybe not quite as short as that. Hasnt got his stripes, that honour goes to up-and-coming Matt and only a fool would disregard Sky, seeing red, in Lister's East Anglian Derby, well made it his own anyway.

The compilers will have the benefit of seeing the races, so dunno really. Looking at the splits, Phoenix is marginally quickest, shouldn't be too much between the leading three. Although Sky half a second to find with Phoenix on end times, if he goes round in front, race on

Yeah, many say Blanco not unlucky. Had this argument with my mate when Blanco caught by an on-fire Maldini, dont usually run like that, in Sussex Cup. Not to make the final by a head when not pinging as he can, rates unlucky, imo. Sure he's a better dog than the other two that qualified behind Phoenix and would have had a far better chance than them in final

Had a little pop at Taylors Sky. Didnt fancy Phoenix at the short price, although only a fraction odds on. He's been getting all his own way and sure he wont be winning by 7 lengths in the final. Come on Sky, although he could never makeup for what he's cost me before his racing career is through
