Hi everyone! I wonder what grade T means in BF Greyhound Racing Guide? This is absent from official greyhound form on Greyhound Board of Great Britain. Where does this info come from and how reliable is it?

T = Trial

also, T1 = solo, T2 = 2 dog trial, T3 = 3 dog trial etc

Thank you! So, as I understood, these trials are a kind of training but their results are recorded as semi-official data, am I right?
The question is how relevant are these trials? Should a punter count them together with official races or it would be better to put them aside?

Trial data is official, the GBGB site just records race data.

Trials give you a good indication as to what a (young) dog can achieve with a clear run so they are important, that said trials and races against other dogs are two very different things

You can find some trial info online for some tracks. e.g. Romford, Hove, Wimbledon and I'm sure a few others.
It is a disgrace that the information is not available on the GBGB site. The full form for each Greyhound should be shown, including the trial form.
The racing post currently depend on the PA to supply them Greyhound form. They supply it on a last 6 lines of form basis, so even the racing post form excludes some trials. (and the odd form line!)

That's interesting. Let me suppose that T1,T2,T3 (trials for 1-3 dogs) allows us to see the potential of a dog = what a (young) dog can achieve with a CLEAR run. And trials with 4-5 dogs or more give a good indication of the current race form of a dog. But since trials in most cases are limited to 1-3 dogs that info might be misleading. No?

Greyhounds trial for different reasons.
You don't really want to see a young Greyhound knocked about in it's 1st trial or two. So a solo, or 2 or 3 Greyhound trials will be enough for them.
To grade a Greyhound in, they will need a minimum of 3 trials. A young Greyhound might not be too fit for those trials typically, so they can get in at a lowish grade and win a few races. If they are really slow, they might be all out to grade!
You'll also get bitches trialing back in after seasonal rest. They'll typically be very unfit for their first trial or too & probably be suffering from hormonal effects too. You know what women can be like! Mischief
You'll also get Greyhounds trialing at a new track prior to a run in an open race, so they can familiarize themselves with the track. Now, do you think that they want to show their hand prior to a potential gamble at a new track?

So, races and trials are different things, I see. Of course, a dog runs to its form, no one restrains it. But it might run worse than in a subsequent race because of the reasons stated above or it could run better because of a clear run which might not be the case in racing.
