have i missed something or is 6/4 - 7/4 coolavanny bert a great bet? i cant see him being at least jt fav, there could be industry money keeping taylors sky short and maybe jt fav, but even then dead heat rules you win a bit of shrapnel, but most people have bert down as fav, cant see enough money for the judicial dog with his injury scare to make him a jt fav, cant see enough for ironman, can only see bert jt fav at worst making the bet albeit small, a winner?

Yeah Bert surely starts fav, can't see enough money coming for either Sky or Judicial to jump him in the betting

looks like i did get a good bet, think its a genuine 4/5 chance - 5/4 you win a bit of shrapnel with jt favs, 4/5 you lose a bit, 5/4 and he is outright fav, cha ching, 6/4 + rude not to!

Report stowking May 27, 2012 1:50 AM BST
100% corrupt .. was 9/2 with 30 seconds before the race .. Will Hill obviously was set to loose a lot on the name the fav market ... so just paid there way out of it

am wondering who led it... but betting to 130% just before the off in the biggest race of the year is a total and utter disgrace... even if there was a coup on the 'who will be fav', they shud be knocking he other prices out, cos im shocked that the weight of money in a novelty type mkt can screw up the derby mkt....

if the big bookmakers have not been hit betfair should have a good look to see if the people backing trap1 had any links to the wimbledon bookmakers

what bookmakers  had a market for return fav,as i only saw the 1 on betfair.yes they do need to look into it,and whos idea it was to form such a market.

I would just like to add that REEDS were not even quoting a price for Farlow Ironman.  I was observing and thought he'd forgotten to re-write the price up after scrubbing it off.  The dog was unquoted for up to 10 mins before the off.

I assume that a price would've been available on request but he was clearly running scared and didn't want to take any bets!  Pathetic.

It stinks to high heaven, Tony Morris must be spinning in his grave at what has happened to the Wimbledon ring.
Bearing in mind a lot the on course punters would be tenner and score merchants that was a stroke beyond the pale and brings the industry into disrepute. Questions need to be asked..

Do the maths lads, there were four books there and one of them says he took one 5k, a couple of bags etc and bits and pieces. If you take that as 10k total  and assume the other 3 books did the same, that’s 40k so lets say 50k to make sure it goes off fav at anything from 9/2 downwards was put up.
Now if it was 4/1 to be fav before the race you need 20k on (80k profit)  to ensure a 30k profit return no matter if it wins or loses
Questions ?
1 Do we believe the RP side of the story (that is Henwood) ?
2 If 20k went on it to be favourite before the race did it show up in the betting ?
3 Who would think this coup,  risking around a minimum of £70k to start was  feasible?
4 Who would know before hand, how much they would need have available to throw into the ring in order to bring the price down that much in the final few minutes before the off ?

I think check is spot on .

Perfect opportunity for Mr Smarmy to display some proper journalistic skills rather than the lazy quotes from bookmakers stating that this and that are shocking losers for us etc etc that 'graced' the front of the greyhound section of the trade paper the day before the derby final. Is it too much to ask for some actual journalism within a paper??

It's a pretty well known fact that the Wimbledon Bookmakers used to knock them out when the BAGS contract was with the track the first time.
Report Slippy Blue May 30, 2012 3:00 PM BST
Not only Wimbledon Catford, Sittingbourne and Crayford as well. That's part of the reason most of high street firms stopped taking placers.
Report DanceTrev May 30, 2012 4:27 PM BST
And they wonder why Wimbledon lost their BAGS contract.
Report Catford Toteboard May 30, 2012 4:39 PM BST
Wimbledon didn't lose it. The GRA decided to transfer it to Oxford.
Report DanceTrev May 30, 2012 5:05 PM BST
If thats what you believe Catford but I will give you a written Guarantee they were losing their contract. Its not for the GRA or any other promoter to move it.

brilliant!!!!!

i can see it now...'the plan was hatched on the way back from charlton one day in january....me (i had to wear 2 coats to carry all the bangers) and tel kept putting bombs on the ironman - u could hear the 'OI OI's', as farloe raced in from 5/1 to 2/1 joint fav. it was the biggest derby roar since the old white city. then when he went half a point clear at 6/4, we sat down and got out the sandals books to barbados. job done, oi oi - im off to lingfield for the hosses tomorrow - fack the dogs'.
