You must also select a Bismarck for the competition, which MUST be from BRACKET 1. The further this selection goes through the event the more points you will lose, as below....
You must also select a NAP which will score you double points throughout the competition.
All entries must be received before the first heat is run on Friday 27th April.
If one of your selections is a non-runner, you may select a replacement - as long as that dog hasn't raced in the first round at that point.
Them's the rules!!!

Right. Fingers crossed. Can I cut & paste this from a spreadsheet without it looking an awful mess when it appears on here? I'd guess I probably can't. They ought to have a "preview" facility on this page, so you can look at how a post will come out before you hit the "post reply" button.
However... I'll start with an attempt at posting the scores from the Bracket 1 dogs.
There are three ways dogs score points. "c" is the fastest on the clock, which carries 50 points. (Bubbly Phoenix may lose this, as I haven't got an official going allowance for tonight's card, but he had the fastest non-adjusted time.) "w" is the points tally for heat winners, which is what your return would be if you had the bracket value on the dog at S.P. "q" is the bracket value awarded to all qualifiers for each round.

All of that is subject to a recheck... which I will do tomorrow. Going allowance for tonight was seemingly -30 for the whole meeting. If that's the case, then Bubbly Phoenix keeps the bonus for the round's fastest time. I'm not 100% certain that I've got the 4-qualifier and 5-qualifier heats correct - if I can miss an announcement of a DQ then I can definitely get that wrong.
Players scores will be up tomorrow.

I didn't even see it having a gnash at Daddy Knowsbest. Went for a beer - or a pee - in blissful ignorance and left the stadium none the wiser. Can't hear a bloody thing on that PA when under the stand.
I'm not convinced about the "We're doing the stadium up for the Derby" bull that was quoted in the week. I haven't walked in from the Garratt Lane side for years. That side of the carpark seems to be in even worse condition than the potholed moonscape that greets a punter on entry from Plough Lane. I know it's rained for much of the last three weeks, almost every day, but the boating lake on the Garratt Lane side must have been 40yds across. The pigeon poo was still prominent and I can't say I noticed much in the way of spring-cleaning. Am I tripping, or did they open the Dog's Paw bar past the winning line at one meeting earlier this year? (Juvenile night perhaps.) I thought they said they'd open more refreshment and bar facilities for this competition. I gave up refreshments on Friday. Stood there attentively on the terrace until times, prices, returns and splits had been announced, then tried to get a bevvy or a burger - having been very busy and work and eaten nowt all day. I advanced one place in the burger queue in about five minutes, then gave up, as there was no chance of me seeing the next race. A couple of races later, I tried the bar and moved no more quickly than in the burger queue. Last night was probably marginally better. Having arrived from a last-day non-league soccer game (much bigger than usual gate, huge queues for food, couldn't be bothered) I was a mite peckish and thirsty, so I ducked inside a couple of times as the dogs crossed the line and got served before the mutts for the next went into the traps. I can't imagine waiting 10mins for a beer or a burger at, say, Wentworth in Sydney. Credit where it's due: they had plenty of sheets with the weights on, the NRs were up on the board and there were punters coming in with racecards on Friday after the second race. Still a dive of a stadium and the Derby should definitely move somewhere else for next year. I honestky

Yeah, Young Sid won at 11/10. He gets his 2pts for getting through. He's in the 2pt Bracket, so the win points are only 2pts @ 11/10... which is 4.20pts. So 6.20 overall.

Apologies to noflapleft! I've just sat down to check the scores. And guess what? I have shagged up on Young Sid... Hang on. Can I say that? There's probably a priest joke in there. Well spotted, noflapleft Though I would have spotted it myself when re-checking the stats - just have, in fact!
I'm settling this competition on two spreadsheets. The first one has all the dogs in one long line, with their scores to be added after each round. As posted last night at just after midnight, Young Sid has scored 6.20 points.
The second spreadsheet is a bit bigger and has all the selections of all the players. So, all I have to do for the second spreadsheet is type in the relevant number from the first spreadsheet next to the dog's name in the player's selections. Simples. Except doing this requires me to undertake the very difficult task of looking all the way across from a dog's name at the top of spreadsheet one, to the score at the bottom of the dog's column on spreadsheet one. They must be all of an inch or so apart after Round 1.
Somehow, I looked from Young Sid's name at the top of the column to Tyrur Justin's score at the bottom of the next column over. Consequently, I typed Tyrur Justin's score of 2.00 in the Young Sid box.... meaning everyone who selected Young Sid was given a score of 2.00, rather than 6.20.
So, I have to add 4.20 points to the score of everyone who's on Young Sid... except Lee H2, who's napped Young Sid and so has to be given an extra 8.40 points.
I didn't transpose Tyrur Justin's score. He really did score 2.00.
Right, back to checking things.
Actually, I think I'll recheck the other competition first.

I didn't think there was much hype surrounding him this year (sure he was 50/1 for months and then 33/1 for another few) and i think he warrants being towards the top of the market this time. Last year i was very vocal in my view that he was horrendous value considering all he had done was win an unraced stake at Kilkenny. However this year it is a lot different and i actually think he was overpriced for a long time. He has shown a good level of form in Ireland running 2nd in the Champion Stakes but it's his Wimbledon form and time that warrant him being towards the head of the market. This year going into the Derby he has clocked 28.25, 28.33, 28.22, 28.51, 28.20, 28.34, 28.20 and 28.28 nearly all of which would be good enough to win or go close to winning the Derby.
I actually remember Newbon and Hobbs saying the exact words on quarter final night last year "We all know that Razldazl Jayfkay is going to win this year's Derby." And they said that more than once. Seriously hyped greyhound!

That was last year though. I said all last year i thought he was under priced. This year however up until a month or couple of months ago he was trading at big prices so was hardly being overhyped this year, he went under the radar for a long time this year.
You may feel he is underpriced now and i wouldn't be rushing to back him at his current odds but from the end of last years Derby until around mid to late February he was 25/1+ and as big as 50/1.
Newbomb just says whoever is favourite is going to win and why anybody would pay and notice to what he waffles is beyond me, it's best just to mute him unless he is talking to a bookie rep as that's the only time he says anything worthwhile.

A lot of people picked non-runners, including me, but only four players didn't get around to changing them: Deadbeat, LeeH2, ChildofMine2 and the Booby Prize winner, Huggy, who is running with a team of 8 dogs after picking two NRs and not replacing them.

Question on JFK, though. I backed him last year at 10/1 on the eve of Round 1. Not a main bet by any means, but more than just a saver. I haven't backed him this year, as I don't think he can win. However, how many greyhounds has anyone seen that appear to be faster against the clock than JFK? If the Derby was run on the same lines as bobsleigh or luge contests - 4 solo runs down the same track, best combined time for the 4 runs wins - he'd be very good value at 10/1. Other than Premier Fantasy, I'm not sure there's been a faster one lap dog in the past decade.
As I've said on another thread, I can't see JFK getting through the comp without taking a whack on the run-up - because, fast though he is to the split, he doesn't ever appear to ping out - or getting a proper buffeting at the first bend when he cuts in. He seems to have the necessary back stretch pace to collar anything that gets away from him, but he doesn't do it.

Right! Adjustments all done... I hope! No significant errors apart from the Young Sid glitch, though there was the odd typo. (I type this scoreboard out manually, as I can't do it by cutting and pasting from the spreadsheet.)
Typos apart, this should be the official table for Round 1.
Typos don't matter all that much in this. In a "normal" tipping contest, everyone has a cumulative total in which the previous points or profit/loss figures are set in stone and don't change, so typos mean the total always stays wrong. If someone gets a typo'd +£155 figure, instead of what ought to have been +115 in the table, there's no way it'll come to light unless the settler goes back through previous weeks. In this, the dogs' scores change after every round, so everyone's score is recalculated again from scratch after every round, so any typos will correct themselves.
Right, I hope I don't have to post anything else on this forum until the card & rules for the "Normal" tipping competition "Round Two, Heats 1-8" goes up on Thursday night.

Evenin' all! Well, that was tense. Bloody awful game of football. Enfield, or one half of what was Enfield - on several occasions in their history the best Non-League club in the land - won 1-0 to climb out of... errm... Division 8. How the mighty fall. Looking around their admittedly shiny and redeveloped athletics stadium and thinking of the long-gone Southbury Road wasn't as bad as looking around what parts of the SW17 khazi one is allowed into nowadays and thinking of the Olympic Stadium in Shepherd's Bush... but it was close. Needham Market had gone to extra-time on a heavy pitch in the semi-final on Friday, which had been postponed every night since Tuesday, due to The Almighty persistently going round with the bloody bowser. They understandably looked shattered. 817 there, I think the tannoy said. Probably not many fewer than were at Wimbledon last night - and a lot more than were inside by the time Heat 9 got underway. 2,011 at the Southern Division final, in which Bognor Regis Town beat Dulwich Hamlet 1-0. That attendance suggests there's less to do in Bognor on a cool and potentially wet Bank Holiday weekend than there is in Enfield... which is saying something. To business, then. I'd just about done the scores for Round 2 of this competition before departing, so I just have to get them in top-to-bottom order and take off the Bismarck tally and I'll be back on here in about an hour, I should think. I'll bet you can't take the excitement.

I've added these up "by hand", rather than off the spreadsheet, so there shouldn't be any automated mistakes of last week's Young Sid score variety. I'm not saying there aren't any mistakes in it, though. I'll do a recheck some time tomorrow.
Unlike last week's table, I've deducted the score for the Bismarck progressing. There wasn't much point in doing that last week, as all the Bracket One dogs were still in and so everyone was looking at a 10-point deduction. This week, of course, there are eight spawny gets who named Eden Star as their Bismarck. They will only lose 10 Bismarck points for the competition, which I've deducted. The other fifty players have had 20 points taken off their totals... with probably more to come.
An (e) behind the score indicates players who Bismarcked Eden Star. An (x) in front of the player's name indicates that their Nap is out of the Derby. The number in brackets after the player's name is the number of dogs that player still has running for him (or her).
This might look a total mess.

Apart from the error where I gave everyone who selected Razldazl Bugatti a whole 0.25 points less than they should have had, there were a few typos and a couple of cases of me missing 0.50 points off a score due to bad maths. None of the typos was for more than a fraction... with one exception. I gave PF the small matter of 10 points more than he should have had in last weeks' standings! Apologies, PF!
The standings are posted with Bismarck deductions made. That means everyone who didn't select either Eden Star, Barefoot Allstar or Jaytee Pedro has had a 50-point deduction made from the score racked up by their selections' efforts so far. Those who Bismarcked any of the eliminated Bracket 1 trio have a (b) after their score. Those whose Nap has been eliminated have an (x) in front of their names. The number in brackets after a player's name is the number of dogs that player still has in his or her team. (A couple of players are down to one dog.)
A few daft notes: Nobody has napped leading scorer Bubbly Phoenix. The absence of any winner bigger than 10/1 means Cloheena Cash is still 2nd-topscoring dog. Only two dogs below Bracket 3 survive... and one of them, Westmead Adonis, wasn't picked by a single player. And I'm only top until Jayfkay and Phoenix collide at the first bend on Tuesday.

as you know jane i have no axe to grind with you however ....
it does not surprise me that you appear to be on top of this competition its so fecking complicated that you are the only one who can work out the scores no-ones going to argue with you
whereas in the normal competition you appear to have transgressed the 1965 Race relations Act in picking on me cos I'm Irish and a bit thick The Act outlaws discrimination on the "grounds of colour, race, or ethnic or national origins" in public places
.... and it don't get more public than this

Each players' remaining dogs are listed below the player's name. An asterisk indicates the player's Nap. Only two Bracket 1 dogs remain - and nobody named Taylors Sky as their Bismarck. Consequently, only those who named Coolavanny Bert as their Bismarck still face the possibility of large scale points deductions in the final. All those nominating Coolavanny Bert as Bismarck have had 150pts deducted from the tally racked up by their selections. Those selecting Coolavanny Bert as their Bismarck have (Bert) after their scores. Several players have seen al their selections - Bismarck included - eliminated, so their current scores are final. These appear in italics.
Apologies for any errors in that. I rushed through it a bit, so there might well be the odd typo and the odd misplaced asterisk.

As I said somewhere at the start of this thread, Ibar Ruari Ignatius, I'm from feckin' Wexford - and not the town either: I'm actually from the "other" Rathangan (The one that Dolores Ruth doesn't come from) - and I left school at 15 without so much as a leaving cert... so you can't be any more daft than I am! (Unless you hail from somewhere in west Cork...or maybe Mayo.) And I'm not top any more! And I'm unlikely to be top after Saturday!

Apart from missing the final "(Bert)" from Catford Toteboard's tally - he'd be doing well to be that far adrift if he'd Bismarcked something else - I don't see any obvious glitches in that!

...Anyhow, as Brendan Gleeson's title character astutely points out in "The Guard" - "I'm Irish. Racism is part of my culture." I really ought to have voted for that BNP fella in the elections for Mayor over here. What's his name? Cortiglia or something? Just what London needs at the minute. If an Italian Fascist couldn't get the feckin' trains running on time, then cultural diversity really has won.
