I remember some very decent graders from there
late 70s 80s Addios ,Dangerous Lad ,Credit Control (nothing and I mean nothing could lead CC to 1st bend at the City) unreal early :-) Flashy Dan Commutering Kid ,Roystons Flier ,Benson cash Benson Dan,Lazy Gael used to get tailed in s4s but could win open marathons trained by adam jackson as was damerstown model another lovely ** ..to name but a few .. |

Hi expat, Reading opened on Tuesday 10th June 1975 and the eight heats of the Derby weren't till the following Saturday, the final was won by Tartan Khan a couple of weeks later. Remember it like it was yesterday!

Thank you did; I was there on the opening night then, and also Derby night. It's my memory going, but I was close! I must have remembered he heats as well!

What a great dog Lacca Champion was, really enjoyed watching that and I'm Slippy's win as well which I there for. Game Ball had no excuses really looking at it again. On the same night in the consolation final Haymaker Mack broke the track record, I would love to see that run again if anyone could help me with that I would be extremely grateful. 28.92 I think it was, the dog was seriously flying like I have never seen before.

Colin West did become a black cab driver. I met him by chance about 15 years ago and got into conversation not knowing who he was and was amazed when I found out. I met him a few times after that but lost contact with him. Don't know what he's doing now.

Jim Singleton's range was down past the swimming pool. Randy Singleton's range was over by the old incinerator site. in the block behind Gordon Hodson/Frank Melville's range.
Joe Harmon Arthur Jonas Colin West /became a London Taxi Cab driver Les Parry (had range which eventually became Colin Wests) Tommy Lightfoot (Father of Terry Lightfoot the Jazz Band and Paddy Lightfoot who played in another Jazz Band) had the range below Colin's Leslie Reynolds as far as I am aware, the range that Tommy Foster had Bert HAYES (the old stables inbetween the the staff quarters (by Gordon's kennel (became storage) Tommy Foster Joe Pickering Wilf France was at Harringay |

Hairy Legs was trained by Joe Pickering at White City London and was leased by both Ernie Wise and Eric Morecambe. Also trained by Joe Dark December leased by Fankie Howard and went to the USA for the American Derby in 1974. Long Echo Ronnie Carroll and Millicent Martin.
Wilf France went to White City when trainers had to do between the two tracks Haringay and WC as did , I stand corrected. As did the WC trainers they did WC and Haringay |

As far as my memory serves me Noreen didnt go to WC as a trainer she went Private, I cannot remember a lady trainer employed there. I may be wrong.

I didn't think Johnny Bassett trained at the White City as mentioned above - he was at Clapton before coming up to Perry Barr after Clapton closed ? And how the hell did Tartan Khan beat Sallys Cobbler !!!

he came at the same time as john shevlin peter hawkesley wot was thefat mans name at clapton its slipped my memory |

John Shevlin came from New Cross to take over from (I believe)Les Parry and eventually retired and died from ill healthlong before he was 65, I am not sure but I think he handled Sherrys Prince before Colin West took over the range,

Just discovered a programme for 1969 Derby night John Shevlin actually came from New Cross to West Ham to White City, West Ham was where he trained Sherrys and then brought him to Northaw with him. Poor old Colonel Ribs couldnt beat him either. |

Not all hurdlers are iffy, some like to jump things like ditches etc, and if they are good at it they are then tried over the hurdles. But on the other hand some might be iffy. Wouldnt like to say about Sherrys never saw him race on the flat
