Remember kingdom come racing at willenhall they used to have an open race handicap once a year over 740 yards.I had a dog who was top class over 565 yards he received 14 start off this ** at one stage he must have been 35 yards clear of the field he hung on i think he won by about 2 lengths he was 8-1 she was 4-7,she copped him just after the line at the trip she was about 40 lengths clear it was clearly not far enough for her,i don't think she made the final.the winner was -------- queen trained by Les brown at monmore, cant recall the **es first name perhaps someone can remember it

Came across this by complete chance and you can see from my title why it made me chuckle. For the record It was Shropshire Lass that she failed to pick up at Romford and she gave wayzgoose a 20 meters head start and won goiing away and a distance clear at the lick up over 970 hove. Another bitch mentioned on this thread she gave 20 metres in running to and beat going away at Wimbledon was lilac wonder. She also did a negative split one night in a tv trophy heat at monmore. Dogs don’t do negative splits right. She would have stayed a mile. I have no clue if anybody on here still remembers her but reminiscing has Brought back great memories.

Great stuff from the good old days of racing.
Nice to see a 1048 race at Crayford on Saturday morning, least they’re a little bit go ahead with variety now unlike the 40 graded sprints every week at Central Park. Sadly about the only maxi marathon you see now. Think Coverall was mentioned , I remember her winning a 1000meter + race on Reading Masters finals night I think , she ambled round signing autographs for the first circuit and a half before deciding to race , think she would have galloped all day and night. |

Yep I remember coverall fawn bitch if I remeber right. We used to have debates about who would outstay who between her and MS. Didn’t coverall actually stop and turn round once or twice because she lost sight of the hare or is my memory playing tricks.

A pleasing thread which I somehow missed in 2009. I increasingly notice these days more and more dogs running over an inadequate 4 bends as graded 6 bend races are virtually non existent now and it seems only Crayford make some sort of effort to provide a variety of distances. A meeting of 14 2 and 4 bend races would never have been tolerated when I first started watching and how people put up with such dross is beyond me.

One of the longest distances I recall was run at Swaffham over some 1100 metres and I wonder if anyone recalls this race.

Call girl...the night she beat star of dromin at the don is the stuff legends are made of...I beleive Morris laid a 20k/1k in the ring that night...I'm not sure if he lost on the race tho!

I remember Miltons Sophie,i was at Hove the day she picked up Wayzgoose and went away from him.
Remember the fans of Wayzgoose cheering as if the race was over, think they had never seen him headed when taking the lead. MS would probably have kept going for at least a mile, she was quiet amazing to watch. |

ThirdTimeLucky, the Bristol bitch you couldn't remember was probably Cloverhill June.
Salina and Cregagh Prince had bottomless stamina , but the bitch who was queen of the maxi marathons would have to be Movealong Margo. |
|
By:
There were 3 Spenwoods- Magic,Wizard, and Gem.
I thought they were all trained by Ron Hough at Sheffield. |

Movealong Margo is one I had forgot and as Rothman says "the queen of the maxi marathons" and she would have outstayed anything.
