Back to Texas before the PGA and am surprised to see Garcia is not teeing up. Anyone know why? 2 time winner here and has a place in Texas now. A good result at Wells Fargo, and I would have thought he would want to continue his form before the PGA. We've seen a few signs of life in Spieth, but certainly not to back at this price imo.  As much as I like Koepka I wouldn't want to back single odds before a major either. I can see a mid range player coming through such as Mexican/Texan Ancer or Mitchell.

Good 9 spoiled by Jordan.
Report lewisham ranger May 9, 2019 9:08 PM BST
typical Jordan these days, gets up there and has a mental breakdown. Sad
Report Total Bosman May 9, 2019 9:10 PM BST
Like you say, they can all be errant, with Jordan now it seems he always compounds the mistake.
Report Mighty Whites 2008 May 9, 2019 9:34 PM BST
At Augusta Tiger knew where he could miss it e.g. on 14 he made 2 birdies from the trees he won't be doing that out of the fescue.

Also got a few concerns regarding his fitness, saw him a few days after augusta and he didnt look too nimble on his feet wasn't surprised he pulled out of the wells fargo
Report Total Bosman May 9, 2019 9:56 PM BST
Yeah, lot of question marks considering the price.  Said on another thread that if he's going to reach Jack I reckon it'll be primarily Opens and Masters where his experience will really count.
Report therhino May 9, 2019 10:05 PM BST
Tiger had a miserable time on the poa greens of the west coast earlier in the year, have to factor that in as well at Bethpage.
Report Mighty Whites 2008 May 9, 2019 10:40 PM BST
Think he could content at Pebble if it is firm and fast.

It is a huge ask to reach Jack's record his fitness must be the biggest challenge
Report therhino May 9, 2019 10:49 PM BST
What do we think of Daly being approved the use of a cart next week? I don't like it, if you can't walk you can't play imo - it's not the seniors tour. The walk is part of the challenge of playing.
Report Total Bosman May 9, 2019 10:59 PM BST
I guess if he has legitimate arthritis it wasn't worth their while to really fight it if he's going to claim some sort of disability discrimination thing.  I think they'd surely win cos like you say walking is part of the sport but maybe they thought it a bad look to fight a battle with a former champion with a disability.  Guess the difficulty is where they draw the line.
Report therhino May 9, 2019 11:31 PM BST
it's especially weird at Bathpage cos it's a walking only course. There are no paths. From what I understand they don't even let green fee players have pull buggies, they either carry their clubs over their shoulder or pay for a caddy.

With crowds on both sides is he just gonna tear through the high fescue that separates the split fairways?

Hopefully he misses the cut and is nowhere to be seen on the weekend.
Report Total Bosman May 9, 2019 11:34 PM BST
Yeah, even if they feel they have to allow it he should really show the championship a bit of respect and withdraw rather than create such a fuss.
Report therhino May 9, 2019 11:35 PM BST
Not well known for his respect. I remember well him taking appearance money in Oz a few years back and intentionally hitting all the balls in his bag in the water on one hole so he could walk off the course. Proper **** Long John.

surprised at all the negativity re tiger in the pga on here. hasn't he just won the masters, completing the greatest comeback ever? plenty on here said he'd never win again, let alone win another major.

not sure i'd be completely happy betting against tiger, he's a dangerous cat when he gets some confidence. was reading his biography, with the stuff about his dad drilling a killer instinct into him and his mum going on about killing the opponent and taking his heart. fascinating stuff. the guy is a winner through and through. my guess is he's eyeing a possible grand slam, making history is all he thinks about really.

actually my theory is in his prime, tiger was slightly overrated (I recall betting him at odds on before the off for the masters) and now it's gone the other way- he's slightly underrated. Even now, he's the best player around. I actually think the masters is a very good sign because he didn't show his absolute best stuff there- I think there's more to come.

be fascinating to see how he gets on in the pga.
Report Total Bosman May 10, 2019 1:45 PM BST
Cold and windy this morning by the looks of things so might play a bit more like the links it's supposed to be.  If the course doesn't provide more interesting golf today it basically never will.

I didn't realize Romo had teed it up here. I think it's fine occasionally, but what do you think think of Romo and Stephen Curry etc taking a place on a more regular basis?
Report Total Bosman May 10, 2019 2:42 PM BST
Don't really see the harm in it as long as they can get it round at enough of a standard to avoid holding up their partners and the groups behind.  Tournament like this doesn't have much going for it really so anything that attracts a bit of interest is good for the event, sponsors etc.

Guess the argument against is they're taking a slot from "proper golfers" but then there's a whole system for getting onto the tour on merit and by definition any sponsors exemption is for those who aren't there on merit, so no-one can claim they deserve one.  It's no different to the plethora of exemptions given to DL3s kid who isn't of tour standard either and isn't going to get anyone switching on their TV to watch.
Report therhino May 10, 2019 2:46 PM BST
A Romo sponsors exemption in Dallas makes sense to me. Autograph seekers would be going to him before any of the pro golfers.
Report Hank Hill May 10, 2019 3:08 PM BST
Yeah, agree with that TB and rhino if Romo can't have an exemption in Dallas then where can he get one!

Guess it's the time of year when you need to burn the odd ominous on Dahmen and Kang.  Not exactly best pals those two, either.

Funny you should say that I just read about their spat on wiki

Yeah, shame that was never televised, really does sound like Kang was at it and very rare a player will accuse a fellow pro of something serious for no reason.

spiffy still looking good for the pga, if he could just iron out the big numbers...

putter seems to have come around.
Report Total Bosman May 10, 2019 6:58 PM BST
Even just turning the doubles to bogeys would make a big difference.  I guess he'd have been chuffed to be T6 after round 2, maybe less chuffed to be 9 shots back!  Now needs to take care of the weekend woes, but I guess starting a good way back could be good for him.
Report Total Bosman May 10, 2019 7:23 PM BST
Bit of a lesson about the difference between very good and being tour good - Romo looks a very good golfer, and probably doesn't think he's playing that badly, and he's 25 back of the lead after less than 2 rounds of a tour event.
Report Mighty Whites 2008 May 10, 2019 7:38 PM BST
Huge difference between a scratch golfer and a tour pro.

I know a few guys who have been +4 handicap turned pro but no managed to break through.

Report Hank Hill May 10, 2019 11:34 PM BST
Just to show he is human a par at the last
Report Total Bosman May 10, 2019 11:43 PM BST
Dunno about Saba, maybe the taste of Bryndzové halušky agrees with him.  Went on a similar run of results at the same time last year so I guess this part of the schedule just works for him.  That said, for all the decent finishes you don't see him right in the mix that often.

Report Hank Hill May 12, 2019 8:50 PM BST
Maybe TB, but in a birdie fest like this it's sometimes tough to get out of 1st gear when people are piling on the birdies and you're playing average - add to that seeking 1st win
Report Hank Hill May 12, 2019 8:51 PM BST
So glad we have a major next week - this is truly dull and if I wasn't betting on it I wouldn't watch
Report Total Bosman May 12, 2019 8:55 PM BST
At least it's tight now but there's so little real trouble to make it interesting golf.  They shouldn't be playing a track that basically requires a 20mph+ wind to provide a challenge.

Report Total Bosman May 12, 2019 9:11 PM BST

I guess what we learned from the 10th is you can rattle it anywhere around here and still make birdie.  Given the width of the fairways you'd think they could grow some proper rough to keep them honest.
