Thought I would create a thread for the golf forum massive to post names of golfers who seem to just fall off the cliff.
Anthony Kim is the obvious one but others I can think of include
Victor Dubisson
Bo Van Pelt
David Lynn (think he got injured and then quit)
I see Brandon Todd on the leaderboard this week for the first time in ages presume he has just been playing poorly

I got the impression that victor the terrible suffered from mental problems. always seemed incredibly introverted for a golfer. some of them are quite reclusive of course but maybe he found dealing with the media and so on an intolerable burden?
or maybe he's just had injury issues. but you're right mighty it's a fascinating concept that some of these sportsmen just seem to disappear off the radar. |

that article goes more into the story. some people just lose their motivation. they do it from an early age, like kim and dubuisson, and then perhaps they grow to resent the game, and wish to do something else in life.... |

Dubuisson reportedly had a troubled back childhood and has a few issues he is scheduled to play in Hong Kong next week.
I suppose golfers are like the rest of society and all have their own demons heard Eddie Pepperell a few weeks ago saying he withdrew from the French open three weeks before the open because he couldn't face getting out of bed and going - a month later he had a second in scotland top 10 at the open and has gone on to good things. Weir and Immelman just lost their form and still play when they can especially weir who turns up all over the place. I was thinking more of the player who just vanishes often for no apparent reason. |

but I think the reason is obvious- they fall out of love with the game. otherwise it would make sense to carry on, they can make far more from golf than they can from a regular job. bobby fischer in chess is a famous example of someone who just disappeared from the map for twenty years. |

There are so many guys that they can disappear for ages without even being noticed - Stadler was out for ages and I only really realised he was gone now he's played a few events.

Having a look down the PGA all-time list, couple of PGA winners who seem to have vanished: Ryuji Imada, Nathan Green. Green playing this week in Australia but doesn't seem to play abroad anywhere, Imada disappeared off the face of the earth.

Bid hitters and comfort zones . Too easy nowadays if you get to top 100 , just turn up and go through the motions . Big difference from around 1950 when the winner of the Open got around £350 . Wouldn't even buy a modest new car then .

If I remember correctly, him and Sabbatini nearly came to blows on the tee of a particular tournament. I wish the lad well. |
