No Rory or Day teeing it up.
Spieth was a doubt but think he is planning to tee it up |

'Let's get this show on the road here'...length/accuracy off tee...greens in regulation.....putts per round...reduced field and interesting course...1 fun bet for me this week...how do you think he will do...no cut to worry about...life is great....4 days of fun for 4 quid...

Scanning this week's fields, really is hard to believe that 12 months ago Willett was still the reigning Masters champion and teeing it up with the big boys in Mexico, and now he's 100/1 for the nothing event in Africa instead, talk about your career going down the Tshwane.
Enjoyed this one last year, interesting track although judging by a few names not bothering this year not universally loved by the pros (which isn't always a bad thing). |

yes im afraid danny is going to be a one hit wonder.

Fairly obvious but fancy Fleetwood this week.... 19.5 on here and also got some on each way at 18/1 six places.
Looked great last week, has form here and looks only a matter of time before he wins stateside. |

Don't claim to be all that familiar with Abraham Ancer, but apparently his mum has a Betfair account and hasn't mastered the art of responsible gambling.

#1 Abraham Ancer Strokes Gained Rank: 2nd Age: 26 The University of Oklahoma product ranks second in strokes gained despite not finding the winner's circle. His season includes a trio of runner-up finishes and four other top 10s. The dual citizen of U.S. and Mexico also graduated from the Web.com Tour in 2015 but didn't find much success on the big stage. He was 6-for-19 with one top 25, but he appears to have used that experience to his advantage and will try to keep it rolling in the fall. I think we could see him make some noise, early in the season. ![]() Comprende ahora ![]() |

Following the various Tiger-gates, last year saw another PHIL-GATE...

THEMONEYSHOT • March 4, 2017 9:08 PM GMT Phil must owe his Las Vegas bookie mates a few quid, he's trying every trick in the book here. jedi sophie • March 4, 2017 9:08 PM GMT Bordering on Cheating......IMO. trebor • March 5, 2017 12:11 AM GMT Phil got 3 free drops on 3 consecutive holes, first one for a lost ball, after 3 mins searching for ball a spectator then remembers seeing someone pick a ball up. Next one deep in a bush and gets a free drop coz Phil decides that a wider stance is needed for the shot, but that means the sprinkler is in the way. And third one again in a bush and finds an immovable object and gets another free drop. Some pro's play that way, others would consider it as bending the rules too much. In the first instance the caddie will often say something like "strange we can't find the ball, nobody saw anyone pick up a ball? works sometimes, someone in the crowd about to get a chance to help a their favourite pro maybe? Other two drops pro's go through a mental list of get outs, if not a sprinkler maybe burrowing animal, green keeper cutting left for removal, tyre tracks, and good old line of sight works wonders sometimes. |

Rory having week off, I should think he is delighted. The kid seems to treat playing pro golf like going down a coal mine. I may be wrong but he doesnt seem to enjoy himself at all. Needs a reality check.

How is Bubba a bigger price than Pieters
|
|
By:
Tough one this. Definitely need to be cautious, particularly in-play. It's easy to shoot a round of 65 here one day and 75 the next, winner could also pop up from anywhere.
At least a dozen guys with good chances here too. Towards the top of the market Speith is of most interest to me. Slowly finding a bit of form after a virus. Course/greens not his favourite type, but he did shoot a round of 63 here last time. Hoping his 3 ball group works in his favour and he gets off to a flyer. Win and an ew 1st round leader bet for me. Bubba comes here having found the old magic. 38th here last time despite being badly out of touch. He still made plenty of birdies though and I'm hoping this time he can limit the number of dropped shots. Done well when this was the cadillac championship in Florida, especially after having won Genesis/NT. Hoping the form carries over again. Still a surprisingly big ew price. Putting a little extra on the place markets too Got to put a brit/euro up too, so I'm going with Casey. Got better here last year with each round and hopefully he can put it together here at a nice ew price. Not to toot my own horn, but I've been in red hot form having put up Day for his win and 2nd, and Bubba and JT for their wins. Follow me in before I inevitably lose it. |

Yes agree it does look tough I also think Spieth will go well this time-looks to be finding form and did well to finish so close last year given that he had few 7s on his card!!
Rahm and Schauffele also make the team but not with much confidence |

A BETTING ANGLE may be backing those that did NOT play at The Honda...
Players that ended at the West Coast Swing (with reasonably good finishes/form) before skipping last week's Honda Classic - and rested/practiced in the West. 1. Avoiding The Honda 'carnage' - travel, wind, etc might turn out to be a good call. 2. Finding sprinkler heads in the middle of nowhere helps. 3. Players will also not have to make adjustments to the greens - they face 'kikuyu & poa annua' again this week - the same combination just two weeks ago at Riviera. 4. Other than altitude, the greens being tricky was a common theme last year. Sergio Garcia: "When you are not used to playing at this altitude it’s tough physically, your head hurts, your body doesn’t feel the same. You just try to get used to it as the days go by and you try to play the best you can." 5. Looking at PGA TOUR events with poa annua greens only - strokes gained putting reads - 1. DJ (posted 22 birdies, an eagle and nine bogeys last year), 2. Spieth (picked up 3.6 strokes putting at the Genesis), 3. Phil SprinklerGate & 4. Tony Finau. (btw Thomas was #1 in putting average here last year). So some of those Riviera rested and/or form players include - DJ, Spieth, PHIL, Cantlay (makes debut), Bubba, Finau, Schauffele (Tour Champion), Hadwin & Burmester (both on debut). |

Reckon Rahmbo goes very close here, he will be my main pre-event bet.

I've gone in for more on Bubba. His stats for the tournament 2 weeks after following a good Genesis/Northern Trust make for fantastic reading.
2016 1st followed by 2nd 2015 14th followed by 3rd 2014 1st followed by 2nd 2012 13th followed by 2nd Granted this course in Mexico is a bit of an unknown, but as CatchMeifyoucan mentioned, altitude aside it won't need much of an adjustment for Bubba. |
|
By:
Bubba looked in great form at the Genesis if he arrives in the same form must have a decent chance again
|
|
By:
@dibdob
Interesting, and I like your reasoning re: his appearance here last year, but the T38 is bugging me big time, tempting but think I'll take Fowler, albeit at half the price of Bubba. Fowler did have three good rounds last time, poor recently but think he will show some 'bouncebackability' ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
Bubba overall had a terrible 2017 so in that regards the 38th here wasn't horrible. There are several reasons put forward for that bad year. Sickness (possibly mental health) and losing what for him was a lot of weight, family issues and the joke of a golf ball he was using.
All that looks to be behind him and imo his odds of 50 is a ridiculous. Rose was 38th here too last year and is half Bubbas price! |
|
By:
Agree about Bubba - traded Rose but rather than stakes back for a free green, taken profit and moved to Bubba. Not sure how you back Casey though dibdob, for a bloke who won one on tour nearly 10 years ago, I find his odds offensive.
Spieth, Cantlay, Finau and Bubba is my team to start. |
|
By:
im gonna do what i did last year and just start backing Spieth every week till he pops in a few wins. Not exactly shrewd i know but aslong as he wins once in his next 8 or so starts ill be happy, obviously the sooner the better and i think its time for him to start to hit some form
|
|
By:
Not a bad strategy Meng. I'll be doing something similar providing he shows bits of form. If Speith doesn't go in this week I'll wait for him to get to a course without poa annua greens and then back him again. If he doesn't go in on bermuda greens after a couple of goes I'll leave him till he gets on to bent grass greens and then back him big at what will hopefully be decent ew odds.
As for my bet on Casey it was one where my heart ruled my head. Hadn't backed anyone from the UK since Rory in the middle east and Casey was the one I'd most like to see going well. The only bit of logic I applied was that his form on this course last year suggested he was really getting to grips with the course as the rounds progressed. Shot 74, 71, 67, 66. Also he looked in decent touch at pebble beach. Agree his odds are far too short though, but I've gone small ew stakes on him. |
|
By:
I'd definitely be happy with Finau carrying my money, but had to limit myself to 3 picks and leave him otherwise I could make a case for backing a dozen guys.. Was really impressed with Finaus final round at the genesis. It should give him a lot of confidence
|
|
By:
There have been reasons why Spieth has not been on his A game.
I think this is the tournament where we'll see him spark. Can see him blasting off in front and be there at the end |

Couple of decent 3 balls 17.51 Johnston, Thomas, Rahm.......18.51 Rose, Speith, Fowler....anybody confident of a winner in either?

Market realizing it got Bubbas price wrong. He's a single figure favourite now after 9 superb holes of golf.

Casey, Fleetwood, Pieters etc all shorter than the guy who breezed inlast time n has been in decent nick.
Fleetwood, once again horrendous when coming in firmly in the spotlight. That is something to watch with him, remember Birkdale. |
