End of the road lads. JT looks to have player of the year wrapped up but a debate is to be had should Spieth or DJ take the chocolates this week. Like DJ here, somehow got edged for the 10 million last year and after finding form again last week expect him to show up to play.

Don’t think any of the current breed are hungry enough Frames, Rory especially seems to have chucked it in since getting married.

Depends on your definitions of dominant and superstar. DJ just spent the best part of 18 months at number 1, won 10 tourneys in 2 years. That's pretty good. Only 3 players have even won double digit majors, if that's your criteria you might wait a while. If Tom Watson, Trevino etc. is your criteria then take your pick, there are a few who could reach those heights.

Expecting another Tiger so soon is probably wishful thinking. We thought we had it in Rory, could still turn out that way.

Defo biggest priced fave I can recall in this event. By a distance.

Team of 5 might seem excessive in a 30 runner race, but there we go.

My main bet is Koepka. 16.0 seems huge in such a small field and he's talked this up a few times. Also really like Simpson at 30/1. Bang in form and gone well here several times. Last three are Molinari, Matsuyama and Horschel.
Report therhino September 17, 2018 3:30 PM BST
I'll be on Brooks as well, for a guy who only turns up for big stakes 11.5 million might be reason enough to bring the A game.

rahm probably out of it although he has a very low one in him. Has hit some very low scores in practice rounds apparently and I know that's only practice but with easy greens anything is possible. obviously a top player and a future number one.

tiger should win, if the fatigue/nerves factor don't play too big a part. however getting to 80 wins is massive and we've seen that he's not the consummate closer of the past. anyway the luck I've had the last few months can easily see him screwing it up. Sad

Massive Tiger Fan,but think his price is shocking.

not sure his price is shocking when you consider his historic win percentage from this situation is 42/44 (95 percent.)

having said that this is a different tiger these days. rory will be glad to get in the final group as he can try and drag a potentially nervy tiger into a matchplay situation. he has a score to settle having failed in two big match-ups earlier this year, against haotong li and also up against patrick reed in the masters.

that's why I can only see rory or tiger winning, think it will be tough for rose not in the final group and having to think about the fedex cup as well, huge amount of money at stake even for these mega rich people.

getting to 80 will be huge for tiger, the next win will surely be the toughest for him when he's not won for five years. amazing to think of him getting to 80 really, when top players like spieth, fowler, haven't won on the pga tour this year, and fleetwood has never won on it. it's like 4 wins a year for twenty years, incredible.

I doubt getting to 80 would enter Tiger's head once during the round, getting past Snead's inaccurate record  may mean something, but beating Jacks is the main one of course.

Anyway if Tiger never did get past Snead's he will still eventually get credited with the record because of all the events that counted for Snead and not for Tiger, Snead's record contains 4 events of than 36 holes or less, 5 with 16 or less players, and 5 with a partner, none of which count nowadays.

I wonder if Palmer learnt his lesson from The Open or if he is going to let it run and have 30 grand or nothing !
Report lewisham ranger September 23, 2018 11:40 AM BST
if it was true that tiger would get the record why wouldn't he have got it already then, it's not like the facts aren't clear in this case. The snead record will stand until he passes it.

as for laying off, I'm not really sure it's a case of "learn your lesson", as you seem to be suggesting that it's a one-way street, laying off obviously harms the profits in the long run.
Report trebor September 23, 2018 12:20 PM BST
Well Snead's record has been changed at least 3 times already, once when he asked why his British Open was not included in his total, The PGA tour are not to hot on record keeping, Nicklaus, Palmer and many more have had their totals changed in the past. Snead actually has some that should be but not been credited under the correct qualifying criteria, but not as many as those that will imo get taken away.
