A week before my favourite Major of them all, and what a great turnout.
Will DJ and Rahm be at a disadvantage, having had a long, long week?
Will Stenson and co, have the advantage after giving last week a miss?
On first look, it's looking decidedly tricky!

think you should take on the favs here as they will have half an eye on augusta.

wouldn't be surprised if dj/rahm withdrew to keep fresh for the masters.

That's a result - the 5/1 fav out, with no rule 4 on the high street for golf.

Welcome to Shell's WONDERFUL WORLD OF GOLF for the Shell Houston Open.

The full kit is required, Stetson, frilly jacket, trousers and changed to my 'Heritage' Boots this week, with spurs - and most importantly my belt with holsters and twin Smith & Wesson’s. Come out all guns blazing! So let the S H O begin...

ALL THE H's this week for the SHELL in HOUSTON with Henley, Henrik, Holmes, Horschel, Howell III. RES Berger, but also like Fowler, Kuchar or Phil.

This tournament dates back to 1946, when a young guy named Byron Nelson picked up the winner’s trophy. The host club since 2006 is The Golf Club of Houston (formerly Redstone GC), a long par-72 over 7,440yds, will favour players who hit a lot of GIR and get their putter working for SGP. The four par 5s are all over 550 yards, and two of the four par 3s top 216 yards. Three of the par 4s top 480 yards but the 12th is only 338yds. A winning score of 272 (-16) has been popular so birdie fest players are also the order of the day.

Jordan Spieth has four starts at this SHO (T50 in 2013 with MC, 2nd & 13th last year) so he’s a player that you are trying to capitalize on his recent play (a WIN seven weeks ago and well rested from last week) rather than horses for courses if having a bet. Spieth said that Houston is a 'bomber’s course' that doesn’t suit his eye!

ALL THE H's this week.

What are the odds a player starting with a 'H' wins it (first or surname) ???

There are no alternates for The MASTERS, so the final exemption into the first Major is reserved for the winner of the Shell Houston Open...So it's Worth Winning!

Jimmy Walker @ 90 & Phil @ 28, so far.
I always like to have at least one player in the PGA Tour Live early groups, so a few more to add yet.

139 in the BF market at the moment.

From what I can gather it's David Hearn OUT, with Riley Arp, Ryan Blaum, Andres Gonzales, Jason Gore, Wesley McClain, and Richy Werenski IN to make up 144 players.

Stenson far more backable odds this week after the single figure odds at Bay Hill. Goes just as well here.

IMHO, Kucher sounds like old folk talk.......but 65/1 on Betfair is a no brainer in this company. I know he's no Lucas Glover but some of us have to use 'upstairs for thinking and downstairs for dancing'.Good luck to all. Has Reed developed leprosy,.......nobody wants to touch him?Confused

Since 1960 only two players have gone on to win the Masters after winning the week before. Phil Mickelson in 2006 and Sandy Lyle in 1988. Will every player be trying to win this week - probably, but the stats are very much against this weeks winner going on to win next week.

People say the same about the Par 3 Competition, crystalhunt, it's just religion, and I'm an atheist. I remember Mick winning the Scottish before the British Open. It's horses for courses. If Mick is going well this week it will probably last a fortnight. Anyway, back to business, and the Top 20, great bookies giveaway.

Stats can be misleading though, crystalhunt.  How many players have gone to Augusta having won the week before?  What sort of price would those players have been at Augusta?  The last few years we've had Herman, Points, Jones etc.  You may find that two wins is higher than expected.

It's funny, whenever someone quotes a stat "only twice since 1960" you can normally be sure it's three since 1959.  Sure enough, I just looked up the 1959 Masters which was won by a guy called Art Wall Jr, and he won the previous week at the Azalea Open!

Crystal - I daresay anyone who believes in a back-to-back hoodoo could protect themselves from accidentally winning this week by simply not playing.  Turning up then trying not to win seems a lot of work.

I get your point Bosman. I just think some will be trying harder than others especially given that the winner is guaranteed a place in the Masters and most of the top players are already in.
