Saxon my thoughts on ball striking are that yes the ball will run and run due to the drought but any errors in connection will mean a trip to the bunkers or running through into rough so no spin on greens to hold the ball close for better birdie opportunities.

I think that is a very good plan. |

Thx for the reply, and I wish you a prosperous Open. fwiw they may as well have put red stakes around all the fairway bunkers as ostensibly they are a penalty shot. As always the competitors will be laying up short of them or flying it past them. More likely the latter with little worthwhile wind forecast. |

looks like friday morning showers strongest winds are on sunday calmest on saturday moving day |
|
By:
saxon I think the bunkers will still be a problem particularly around the greens if the wind does get up tried a bit of links myself always seems to be a breeze of some sort any errant shot found a hazard or wispy rough, all the best with your selections.

Saw DJ on sky earlier with Nick Dogherty doing their little section when they hit a few balls off a mat. DJ said the rough is all burnt and brown and short!

have decided to add rory.
won more majors than a lot of the players around him in the betting, also has a better open record. little wind forecast this week also in his favour. I just get the feeling that given he went so well in this as a 17 year old, if I didn't back him and he won it, now he's in his prime, I'd be kicking myself. I have a feeling I'll be kicking myself by the end of the week regardless ![]() |

I've done the opposite - dropped him

on the racing post open preview one of the tipsters said that dj and brooks were impressive in their practice rounds (both -5 on front nine) whereas Tiger didn't hit it well in his
steve palmer balls deep on tiger regardless |

Got a vague notion that conditions might suit Texans or Aussies so since The Open can turn up a complete random I've had get-rich-quick punts on Matt Jones and Bronson Burgoon. Both final group out tomorrow so hoping they can take advantage of some nice pleasant evening conditions.

Was at the course 12 hours today, morning pretty much flat calm, very scoreable, course running beyond belief fast, literally like concrete on fairways as crossed many on walkways, greens superb though, shaming the US OPEN.
This afternoon later on some darker clouds came in for an hour or so, course just changed, a monster, wind went from light 5,10 to 25 and could just immediately see the struggles begin whether in to wind or across, just amazing how quickly it came and went, when left was flat calm again sunny and conditions great. Real insight in to how if get unlucky van be out tourney in 3,4 holes or an hour of weather. I favour early late with my bets. But you have to spread it round lads... Plenty were bombing it today but plenty of irons off tee too, shorter hitters more favoured as hit fairway literally runs forever. Rough only an issue in certain places, most burntnoff and dried out completely, hence the bombers play... 15,16,17,18 look superb, should be a great finish, hope no runaway like many recently, unless it's Rahm,or Keopka, or Kaymer, or Grace or Fowler... ![]() ![]() Think course will get nothing but praise, a true links test in GREAT Nick, good luck all... |
