Pretty happy with my gamble on Matsuyama for the US open after his 64 today. I have been backing him nearly every week since the Masters at 50/1 for it. He excels on tough courses and is some player. If he could sort out his putting stroke from inside 10 feet then he would be better than Spieth and Rory for me. No better player than him tee to green though.

Since the course opened in 1974, it has hosted the 1987 Ryder Cup, the 1992 US Amateur Championship, the 1998 Solheim Cup and the 2013 Presidents Cup. HIS trademark in design is that most tee shots play downhill into generous landing areas where erratic tee shots that find problems will be punished. Muirfield therefore sets up as a classic second-shot course (think Seminole, Ballybunion & Ryl Melbourne composite as per Tiger) also with thick rough and extensive bunkering that will test the best scramblers just as Jack intended. In 2014 there were only eight, bogey-free rounds. In 2013 there was one round as it ranked the 2nd-hardest par 72 next to Augusta. Birdies can be plentiful so I can see Jordan post a score of 272 (16 under) in this elite 120 man field. LAST YEAR the World’s #1 player, Adam Scott headed the field of 120 players fresh off a playoff victory for his ‘Texas Slam’ - this year #2 Jordan Spieth (7/1 on the nose) is the 'MASTER' and is joined by FIVE other players from the Top 10 in the OWGR where experience and class usually play a large part this week... #5 Jim Furyk – 28’s ew and 2002 Champ and runner up in 1997 and 2009 - played 17 editions with one MC in 2011 – he met his wife here too. #6 Justin Rose – 18/1 ew and the 2010 Memorial Winner and 2013 U.S. Open Champ has five top 10s here at Muirfield Village as he tees it up here for the 11th time. Hideki Matsuyama is the defending Champion (beat Kevin Na on the first playoff hole, while Woods is the only player to defend) along with Matt Kuchar the 2013 winner and first timer Molinari (if only he could putt) are also on the 'watch' list. Hideki was the only player (outside the inaugural edition) to raise the trophy in his first time playing here. Andy Sullivan posted a bogey-free, 8-under-par 32-32=64 in yesterday's 2nd round, just two shots off the 36-hole clubhouse lead. Andy is in the field on a special exemption reserved for internationals positioned near the top in earnings on a circuit elsewhere - Sullivan is third on the Sunshine Tour's Order of Merit thanks to winning the Joburg Open three months ago - the Englishman proved why he deserved it. At last check, he was leading the field in strokes gained: tee-to-green with an aggregate clip of 7.472. This is just his second PGA TOUR start. He went 1-2 at the Match Play a month ago in San Fran beaten by Reed 2/1 in Rd1, he won 3/2 over Ryan Moore before going down to the finalist Danny Willett by only one hole.
