Not something you hear about every day on the PGA Tour. Not a great endorsement for an island that lives off tourism either.

Story seems odd, lucky to be alive.

It does seem odd. A PGA tour player abducted from a Waikiki wine bar? Waikiki is the tourist hotspot of Honolulu, must be swarming with police, security, CCTV and regular Joe holiday maker with cameras everywhere. Can only imagine a wine bar in such a place that has lured Allenby there would be a swanky joint, and he gets kidnapped

Australian golfer Robert Allenby says he was kidnapped from a bar in Hawaii, robbed and beaten, before being dumped in a park.

Mr Allenby, 43, says he may have been drugged before he was taken from the bar on Friday. He was helped back to his hotel by a retired military man.

"I didn't think I was going to survive this one," he told the AAP news agency.

The golfer had been planning to fly out of Hawaii after missing the cut at the US PGA Tour's Sony Open.

Local television said the incident was being investigated as second-degree robbery.

"I was separated from my friend in the bar after we had paid the tab at 22:48 (08:48 GMT) and he went to the bathroom and next thing you know I'm being dumped in a park miles away," he said.

He said a homeless woman spotted him being dumped from a car, after being robbed of his phone and wallet.

The military veteran paid for a taxi for him back to the hotel, he said.

Pictures shown on the Golf Channel showed Mr Allenby with cuts on his nose and forehead and bruising around his eye.

His caddie Mick Middlemo told the channel Mr Allenby woke up groggy with no initial recollection of what happened to him.

Allenby is ranked 271 in the world and has won four titles on the elite PGA [Professional Golfers' Association] Tour.

cctv 'apparently' shows him surrounded by five men.

reporting is so BS nowadays.

alot of 'we believe', 'apparently', 'an unnamed person from a reliable source' etc...

its not rocket science. the footage will be either five guys or not five guys. or a black guy, or a woman, or a dog. ffs.

he was either at his table waiting for his caddy or he was outside with said five men.

it doesnt help allenby's case, that, if he is fact telling truth, the sad state of reporting will complicate things even more.

for instance the headline on news.com.au says, ' fbi says allenby confused. not lying'

but it actually refers to him thinking fbi was involved when it was a case of the security guys for the tour are ex fbi.

most who dont believe allenby or are already confused and read that headline without reading the story will be mislead.

They had a homeless lady on the news tonight who claimed to be the one who came to Allenby's aid.
She appeared to have a different version of the events, claiming that she found Allenby just across the road from the wine bar - not miles away.

Lord knows if that was actually her though.

homeless woman called CHARADE: she sees him offering them $500 to get his belongings back.

i say: you don't see someone offering someone else $500 to get their belongings back. you HEAR AND SEE IT. so she was super close to them all the time. but why have they got any of his belongings? he was already mugged of all belongings you would assume and thrown out of the car in the park. how did he have $500 or $1000 to pay the two guys who were kicking him? whatever they had was obviously worth more than $500, but if it was the previous muggers in car would have got it. you guys with me?

He is having some year is Rob. Read a comment today that this was just the 4th time in the last 25 years that a caddy had walked off mid round. The previous 3, were all caddying for Allenby

Must be a top bloke. Will prob have to resort to having one of the waterboys carry his bag from now on. With little chance of any prize money, not really worth putting up with such an arse

Amazing how nothing's ever Robert's fault.  He's just a sweet, loveable guy that bad things keep happening to.

Amazed that Fannie managed to survive her short time with Sergio without wrapping a seven-iron around the little scut's neck. There was a case on the womens tour a few years back when the golfer fired her caddy during a round, can't remember her name but she was totally eviscerated by the press afterwards.

Highly likely this week will be his last ever event as a full-member of the tour.

Followed Allenby live once for 18 holes, a total bellend.  Always looking to put down a fan, steward, caddie etc with little comments here and there.

He had a girl fight with Ogilvy once at the Aus PGA at Coolum. From all reports, he went round telling anyone willing to listen that the Shark liked him much better than he liked Geoff. Yeah, total bellend.

Yeah, normally you can have sympathy for a sportsman past their best who develops problems with booze or gambling or whatever's going on with Bob, but since almost all the reports are he's an a-hole even when sober it's hard to pity the guy at all.  Losing his card might be a blessing, seems he can't deal with the touring lifestyle.
