Rickie Fowler was Robbie Fowler and Marc Leishman was an American not an Aussie and he has only been on half an hour.

Report Clerkmore • July 17, 2014 2:44 PM BST
Alliss should have been retired in 2004 when he didn't realize that Mickelson won the Masters. All the great commentators knew when to go, McLaren, Maskell, Sir Peter. Sir Peter probably went on a couple of years too long.

Alliss just keeps making mistakes. He mixed up two of the Korean girls last week at the Women's Open regarding the two shot penalty. This morning when somebody said Leishman was Australian, he said "There's a Leishman in America as well" not realizing it was the same person.

The BBC always keep loyal, I remember the old guy who used to do the racing commentry, I think it was the 2000 guinees jst before he finally retired, I was driving and had a big bet on, the commentar went something like this!

And there off
As they leave the stalls is a beutiful sight with bright colours and the scenery, all twelve horses jostling for position and is the green colours just in front of the royal blue colours of one of the favourites!

And with 2 furlongs to go its the green colours of erm from the blue colours of horse 1 and then in third its horse number 4 the green colours is horse number 8 then excitedly, horse number 4 getting challenged from 8 and they sweep pass the line. LONG PAUSE And the winner is horse number 7???????

I used to be very anti Alliss due to all the bumbling mistakes that he makes. However, there is a certain and different charm to him. The problem is that he is surrounded by so people like Mark James who is now rivalling Bruce Critchley for most irritating commentator. His smugness and bias knows no bounds. Everytime we saw Tiger yesterday he had a dig at him in a very unprofessional way. It culminated in James not being quick enough to say he thought Tiger would miss the putt for birdie on 18. It was all a bit pathetic.

The problem with the BBC is that they simply don't watch enough golf throughout the year like Sky do. The same applies to the cameramen who have been absolutely shocking this week.

miss him when he is gone. Ok,he gets plenty wrong but so what.Speaks his mind and we will soon have the likes of
Dan Walker and the likes of Matt Baker dominating the BBC.Can speak all day and never once say anything worth listening to.

"That is way way right....oh no its just off the fairway"

"Has it made it , has it made it, it has you know.... ooh no it didn't"

(Putt taken) "No. .....Oh it's in"

and the two most damning things

1) Rickie Fowler who was joint second putted from off the green and it rolled back to him meaning a bogey was imminent. Allis didnt even refer to it as he was blathering on about a youth tournament in Middlesborough! The guy was second in the open and he didnt even refer to the fact he was going to bogey as a result of his shot"

2) "Why dont they just hit it straight on to the green?"
"Well they like to play it out wide and fade it in"
"Really? They play a different game to me these days"

Yes Peter they do. Shut the door on your way out.

All the above was in the last half an  hour. Amazing he gets paid and expensed.

Lyle was never going to get the captaincy anyway, the walk off just gave them a good excuse to bypass him. And his real crime was not inventing an injury to explain the walk off like Poulter did in the US Open or countless other pros have done on other occasions

Alliss was great back in the day when the BBC were covering quite a few tournaments.
Too many mistakes now and I thought his ramblings on a quality golfer like Jimmy Walker were unfunny and embarrassing.
Ken Brown has reinvented himself as the BBC's cheeky chappy but anyone of a certain vintage will tell you what a complete
w***** this bloke was when he was on tour.
Brown's chum Mark James was today on air wishing a couple he knew a pleasant wedding when we were at the business end of a major with Rickie running down Rory!!.
At times you could be forgiven for thinking you were listening to a really bad hospital radio broadcast such was the unprofessionalism
of all concerned bar Cotter who at least does his homework.
Production has also been shocking considering how many cameras they have at their disposal in the sky and on the ground.
I suppose most of them have come straight from Strictly and they're not used to following a golf ball through the air or more importantly getting a couple of roving cameras
into the rough with the last two or three groups to show us the lie and line into the green.Sky do this without thinking. It's basic.
Haven't seen one up close lie with yardage all week.Have had to check the exchange for the exact nature of the lie from an iphone wielding bunker raker which licence payers shouldn't have to rely on.
Message to BBC.Study camerawork from SKY and informed on course commentary from Wayne Riley. That is how you cover golf.

James I cannot stand. Useless as a presenter; equally useless as a Ryder Cup captain.

And as for women covering mens golf......PC gone mad. By all means let the ladies commentate upon the ladies golf but please not the gents. Whilst I am at it I cannot take seriously a woman talking about football.

I best depart this soapbox before I vent my spleen about technology overpowering courses.........
